DO call your doctor. Everyone is different and your surgeon will tell you what is best for you.

I had to wait till my first fill which was 6 weeks post op.

You need to give your body time to heal from the surgery. If you start exercise to early you run the risk of flipping your port. Is that something you want?

I was told I could ride my exercise bike when I felt up to it, and that was straight from my doctor because I asked. I couldn't do the treadmill for 4 weeks. I could walk. I wasn't allowed weights until 3 weeks post-op after I had my first fill.

I had my 2 week follow up yesterday and they told me I can start doing some other things- eliptical and some cardio videos but nothing strenuous for another 4 weeks. No jogging, no weights, nothing with pressure till 6 weeks post surgery.

But then as someone mentioned, every doctor is different!

do you think walking the mall is too much?

You should feel free to call you doctor's office and speak with the Nurse Practioner that's why they are for. I was told I could resume swimming 2 weeks after the surgery. My mother was in town the week after the surgery and while she went swimming; I used the treadmill. I did ZERO incline and progressively worked my way up from .5 MPH to 2.0. I am not a great walker. I have really short legs so I have to really work hard on treadmills. I prefer to use the elliptical but I thougt that would be a strain on my abdominal muscles as I don't hold on to the handles and swing my arms like I'm running. The upside to belonging to a relatively nice gym is that most have either TV's on each machine or ones on the wall that you can listen to via the excercise machine. Makes walking a lot more interesting.

I was encouraged to walk immediately after surgery. Within a couple of days, I was outdoors walking--albeit not as far and fast as preop.

I was not permitted to do other forms of exercise until after my first postop check.

I don't think so.

The only reason the doctor didn't want me using a treadmill for 4 weeks is in case you slip and fall. That was the only reason for no treadmill.

When I got the clearance to use the treadmill, the first thing I did was slip while walking on it. :rolleyes2:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
