getting things in order

Recommended Posts

I go next monday on the 27th to see the dietician and the pyschologist to get ready for my surgery. I am excited and nervous at the same time. My question is after I see them how much longer does it take before we can schedule the surgery. I am looking forward to getting this done before Halloween if possible.

I had my first appointment on Aug 26th butI had to do a 3 month diet history for insurance approval. I haven't been approved yet until I go to my last appointment on Oct 14th. My surgery is tenatively scheduled for Nov 15th. That is my timeline though based on what my insurance requires. I had all my psych, nutritionist and all other appointments finished within 2 weeks from my first appointment.

Good luck!

Thanks. I did find out already that my insurance doesen't require a diet history. My surgeron did give me a paper to have filled out by my family dr to get my weight for the past five years, just in case the insurance does want something like that. Do you have to do the pre-op liquid diet?

I have to get a 2 year weight history from my primary as well. I do not have to start the liquid pre-op diet until 3 days before my surgery. I think though I will start earlier just to have a better chance at reducing my liver size. I am also researching a lot of forums for some recipes to have a little variety so I might be able to stick to the liquid diet. One post I read somewhere suggested adding just a drop of buffalo hot sauce to chicken broth or a drop of A-1 to beef broth and it apparently tasted great. I have it on my list of things to try.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
