October 2010 Bandsters!!

I finally got my date today!! Woohoo! Feel like I have been waiting forever. October 18th they offered me the 5th but b/c of my work schedule I could not do it :) I feel so much better though that I have a date and can now make plans, with time off work etc...

Who else is getting banded in October? I think it will be nice to have others to compare feelings and stories with, as we are going through this.

Good Luck to everyone! New Chapter here I come

Just found out I'll be getting banded on October 19th. It all happened soooo fast, I just saw my surgeon for the first time last week on Sep 16th. This week I'm have my psych eval and cardio test. I'm excited and a little nervous but I know it's for the better.

Okay - I went to my pre-op class this morning. My diet seems quite different from everyone else. I have 2 shakes per day (I'm using Bariatric Advantage) and 2 SMALL, lean meals per day. No sugar, whole grains only and nothing fried. Those were basically the only restrictions.

I'm still scheduled for 10/5 and it sounds like I'm going to be the first one in line for that day, so I will have to be at the surgical center at like 6am.

Anyone here in the Houston area?

hi just joined and seeing consultant on Sat with a prelimanary date for the 21st oct!!!

Im scheduled for Oct 4th. Today is the first day of my 2 week pre-op diet. Im doing ok, I think!

Nanook, your pre op diet sounds like a friend of mine. She had 2 protein shakes per day and 1 lean meal.

Got the call today from My Dr.. insurance approved.. Go Oct 5th in the OR @7:20 am.. Starting my prep tomorrow... Hope my family does not throw me out..

Hi October bandstars My date is October 19th. Looking forward to learning and sharing with you all.

Hi I'm October 7 and also looking for support and a buddy. I'm waiting for pre op on the 6th and surgery on the 7th. Lets keep intouch and see how all of us October buddies are doing. Looking forward to surgery but also a little scared!! The group is great with ideas and support!!! Thanks Again!!!

First of all let me say congrats to everyone!!!!!! My preop diet starts tommorrow and surgery is scheduled for OCT 5th. after months of insurance issues it is finnaly real. Am so excited and ready for this life changing journey.

In regards to good tasting Protein - I got it OK'd by the nutritionist and the doctor to stick with my Slim Fast (Low Carb)... it has 20 grams protein, and tastes pretty good. I also didnt mind the Gatorade G Series "3" Recover Protein Drink... 20oz bottle had 16g protein.

Also, I had my 1x1 today, and the Surgeon told me that the protein supplements are not mandatory in the least - she said that if you can get enough protein (i need 61g/day) through diet, then go for it... On a couple of my test days I've gotten up to slightly above my protein requirement... she also said that it's not completely necessary to hit the protein in the first two weeks after surgery (week one is liquid, week two is puree/mushy), since this is just about healing - it is good if you can get up to the right level, but more important to heal... I think that once i get onto soft and normal foods I will be able to do this easy, without the added supplements...

However, i am still testing flavors. I have found some so far that are truly horrible - and this is based on finger test alone (licking some powder off finger - haven't tried full drink yet) but so far MRM chocolate whey Protein (@ Mother's) isn't terrible, neither is Platnum Hydro Whey strawberry.

The grossest so far have been the Jay Robb Egg White Protein (all flavors). Middle of the road is Met-Rx vanilla, but it seems like it will be the thickest drink - most powder by volume so far.

Good luck finding a protein, if that's your road.

Got my date, October 4th. Doing the pre-op diet now. The no caffine for two weeks is not a good thing. I can do this.

Hi Everyone! I'm new to the thread. I have my consultation is Thursday 9/23 @ 8:30am, Psych Eval @ 11:00am and Nutritional Cons. @ 2:30pm all in one day  I talked to my insurance coordinator today and she said all I need now is my Letter of Medical Necessity and a Letter of Medical Clearance. I have a call into my PCP already so I'm waiting to hear back now. I have United Healthcare and am so excited. My insurance approval requirements were so easy. I didn't have to do the 6 month diet or anything like that. I'm hoping to have a surgery date of around 10/20. My mother in law watches my girls and she is having surgery on 10/4 and needs at least 10 days down time before I can rely on her to help me. I am SOOO looking forward to this! Good luck everyone!!

New here, hope you don't mind if I jump on board......I finally got my phone call from the surgeon's office yesterday. October 13th here we come!! Yeah! I can't wait. I meet with the nutrtion/dietician and other specialists on Monday, Sept 27th. 2 Weeks of Opti-Fast.

Day 1

I had a protein shake this morning with a few added strawberries. It was okay - didn't really satisfy me, but I think I can fix that with a few tweaks (a little vanilla extract). And I wasn't hungry at all through the morning.

Went to Chick-fil-a for lunch and had a chicken and fruit salad (22g protein, but lots of carbs even without dressing). I thought that would be a healthy choice, but I guess it wasn't. But the crunchy apples and grapes really satisfied my need to chew.

Baked chicken for dinner and a chocolate protein shake for dessert tonight.

They made it sound like it would be difficult to hit the protein levels, but I don't think it will -- at least not before being banded.

It has hit me that this is really happening.

I am new here as well....hi everyone....I am going in on October 15th to be banded and am very excited!!! I am not having my surgery done here in the US because my Health Insurence won't cover it. So I am going to TJ to have it done. Paying out of pocket....sucks but it will be well worth it in the end!
