and I can't believe how nervous I am! I guess I put off the thought of surgery for 2 years before deciding it was time to take it seriously, and now Im worried that it wont be something the dr's want to do. Im 5'2 and 297, so I know medically I qualify, but am still nervous. All I have to do for my insurance is pass a psychological evaluation and Im good, but what if the dr's say "oh, you're only 23, you've got a baby, you're living life, you dont have any major health issues besides your weight, you can wait."? Is it just me, or did everyone stress like this?

hi...I stressed every step of the way. Even though I have a comorbidity and called my insurance company a "few" times!! I was anxious before the psych. eval. which went just fine. they wanna make sure you know what you are in for and that you are ready to change. My most anxious day was seeing the surgeon the first time. Actually until I got a surgery date I was not as ease about believing it could really happen. Well, it is this Thursday:scared2: You may even have doubts at times--I did. I hear that can happen. I am ready though. Good luck:)

I most definitely stressed the whole way. My insurance only covers the cost if you're BMI is 40+. Well, I'm at 37 and wasn't really willing to gain almost 30lbs to qualify. So the surgeon's team let me weigh with my purse... which I put in a 25 lb hand weight. :] But I still don't know if the insurance is going to buy it. (My PCP weight is correct...)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
