post op grocery list (2+ months out)

Recommended Posts

I've been having some difficulty getting my head wrapped around eating healthy the lap band way. I've been on Weight Watchers and thought I knew how to eat healthily. I had always been successful on WW and lost 40 - 50 pounds but could never keep it off. Anyways when I told my dietician what I was eating she said that I was making poor choices. I like the Yoplait thick and creamy light yogurt. She said it has too much sugar. I like apple and cinnamon instant oatmeal. She also said this has too much sugar. I ate both of these items on WW and lost weight. I want to go grocery shopping and get some better choices. SO please tell me what you eat. I need Breakfast ideas, snack ideas, what staples do you keep in the house?

thanks !!!!

Jeannine

I eat Chobani Greek yogurt just about everyday, when I am deciding if a snack is good, I look to see that it has at least 1g of Protein for every 10 calories, so the Greek yogurt has 14g of Protein for 140 calories. I also eat lots of tuna for lunch. Sometimes I cook an egg over easy and have it on half a whole wheat bagel thin.

Yesterday, I cooked quinoa for the first time, it was like a nutty cross between rice and oatmeal. I could see adding a few raisins to it and having it for breakfast. Or even cutting up a bit of apple and adding Cinnamon. It is really healthy for you.

I try and eat most things that are 1 ingredient. I eat most of my meats grilled with just some spices on them and I cut up veggies and sauté them in a pan with a little olive oil.

I found a neat web site last night, they rank foods by how many nutrients you get for the calorie exchange and list the ones that are the best for you. (Its run by a non profit and has no commercial ties)

WHFoods: The World's Healthiest Foods

95% of what is at the grocery store is bad for you. Other than the produce, dairy and meat sections you could fit what I buy on a 10 foot section of shelves. Here is a typical shopping list.

Tuna, sardines, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, fish, milk, eggs, cheese, bacon (which isn't good for you but I love it so much!), Greek yogurt, EAS carbadvantage Protein drinks, zucchini, squash, corn on the cob, onions, bell peppers, potatoes, bananas, carrots, lettuce, fresh spinach, cottage cheese, sour cream, salsa, coffee!, rice, quinoa, bagel thins, 100% whole wheat bread and Pasta.

I hope this helps.

Hi. I really like Chobani fat free yogurt (with fruit esp. Raspberry) with a couple tablespoons of vanilla whey Protein Powder and splendra. Really great Protein level. Instant oatmeal is really high in salt and sugar and is high in carbs with very low protein.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
