August rush 2010!!!

We already have 2 other August threads going but let's all try to consolidate all of our thoughts and encouragement into one thread so that we can all support each other and face our fears and struggles together.

I was originally to be banded last March 2010 so I started posting there and I love how that thread is still going with many of them having great success and encouraging each other.

My name is Dee and after much hassle with my surgeons office staff I have a surgery date of 8/16.

I have an appointment with him on 8/3 and there I will discuss my concerns about aftercare and dealing with his staff. Hopefully, all will go well and I won't have to cancel my surgery and find another surgeon.

I have been going through this process now for over a year. I started out with NYU but found after I paid them $750.00 out of pocket that my insurance is out of network for them. They made promises but I didn't want to risk getting stuck with a humongous bill. I want to be thin and healthy not bankrupt.

I found another surgeon that accepts my ins. and he seems nice enough and is the Director of the bariactric program at his hospital but his staff has treated me like I'm begging for a free surgery.

Well anyway, I'm planning to start my pre-op liquid diet on 8/2 anyway on my own advice.

I'm looking for much support and encouragement and am willing to do the same for all of you August rush people.

Kellyodoran came up with the name August rush!!

Hi y'all! I hope everyone is doing well. I spent most of the week working in my classroom trying to make sure I am all done by surgery day! It's nuts that in 1 more wk I'll be getting banded!! :-D craziness!!

Well I decided to just go to sleep instead. I took a 3 hour nap with my 4 month old. We both felt much better after that:)

My hunger wasn't as bad when I woke up.

I'm so excited for tomorrow!!

Congrats Kelly!!

Help guys I get banded tomorrow and I'm starving today. I'm on day 10 of my pre op liquid diet and I'm starving and I would do anything for some real food:(

My surgery is tomorrow too (8/6/10!!) and my doctor had me on clear liquid diet all day today. Broth, jello, juice...ugh. I've gotten soooo hungry. I can deal with it though, mind over matter.

So....I wonder how we'll feel on the way to the hospital tomorrow morning? I can't say that I'm nervous right now, but probably will be once I get there. I've been so busy with work this week that I'm kind of on auto-pilot when it comes to the surgery.

Here is the funny thing, my sister Stephanie is driving me to the hospital tomorrow and she has no idea I am getting the lapband! Haha. She's so easy to trick. She is dropping me off and my other sister is picking me up.

She is cluless cuz I've been in and out of the hospital for various tests and treatments and what nots over the past few years (I used to have leukemia) so she doesnt' think twice about driving me there, it's like my second home.

Anyway, GOOD LUCK ALL AUGUST 6th BAND-DAYERs! And everyone else as well. It's great to feel that I'm not doing this alone. I've never personally met anyone with the LapBand, so it's great having you guys to talk to.

Good luck Melissa and Amanda! You guys will do great!

Good Luck Melissa!! Dh is driving me to the hospital and his driving is well scary so I'm sure I'll have a great ride to the hospital. LOL

Congratulations Melissa and Amanda! Your big day has arrived! Remember to tell us how it all went!

Hello Everyone!

Like a few others have stated, I too decided to wait until my surgery date was set (I wasn't going to gooch myself! :tongue2:lol) before I posted my first entry. I am very happy to say that my surgery date has been scheduled for August 18th. I got a few days jump start on my liquid diet, so today is actually day 4 for me (rather than day 2).

From the previous posts, I am proud to be part of August Rush 2010. I look forward to getting to you know you all better and to be able to take this journey with you.

Jen

Congrats on your date!! Looks like there is finally someone else who is going on the 18th YAH

We'll have to compare war stories when its over!

Ok August 6 Bandsters......today is the day!! Hoping everyone going across to bandland a speedy recovery! GOOD LUCK!!! We'll all be thinking of you  ( so come back with some great stories!! )

Good luck to those going in today. Hope you have speedy recoveries.

I am all finished, it was very awful. Not because of the band, I think. I just wrote a large post on the Surgery day posts.

Good luck to all who have there surgeries. It is a comfort to know all of you are doing well. Take care of yourself!

Well so far so good. I was banded Monday the 2nd and haven't had any complications. I had gas, which I was expecting, but nothing unbearable. I have noticed that if I try to drink too fast I burp a lot and it can hurt.

I haven't felt hubgry yet, but I am making myself eat something so I don't get weak. An advantage of that peo=op diet is it forced me to stop thinking about food all the time. Sure, I want something solid occasionally but I can push it to the back of my mind now, where before it would have consumed me until I gave in.

Good luck to all the new and soon to be bandsters!

Oh-I'm allowed blended cottage cheese and jello, so I blended then together yesterday and it was kind of like cherry cheesecake filling. Might be something for some of you to try if you get sick of soup, shakes and regular jello after you're on full liquids.

I WAS BANDED TODAY!!!!!!!!!

I am in a lot more pain than I anticipated, but I just can't believe that I'm finally banded. I will post more detail later, but for now, thank you all for the well-wishes!!!
