What are symptoms of erosion?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am wondering what the symptoms are for an erosion of the band? Im worried, I doubt I have it. I had some pain between my breasts and went to ER, don't know why. I see my surgeon on July 28th. He said my band looks perfect from the x-rays. He said if the pain continues he will order an endoscopy for erosion. I haven't had any pain since.

I still have some restriction on and off depending on the time of month.

I have researched for symptoms but the info are so conflicting so please explain to me very clearly what the symptoms are. Thanks!

The above link has great info on erosions.

Main symptoms are loss of restriction and weight gain. Also you can get port-site infection.

you can not tell if you have erosion from an xray. The only way to see erosion is with an endoscope. Docs usually dont like to do that until it is a last resort because it costs a lot of money etc.

When I found my erosion I didnt really have any signs but I did have pain just below my breasts from my tubing my doc said that needed to be moved and could possible have been from an infection too ( which is why I had an endoscope right away and found a small amount of erosion).

UPdated:

I had the same pain hit me again 7/19 so I went to urgent care, it turned out that I had gallstones, so I saw my surgeon and he did the surgery that same day plus he did an endoscopy at the same time to check my band. My band is just great and my gallbladder is gone. He said that the gallbladder was very inflammed.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
