Protein Shake help !

Is there anyone else out here that just could not what so ever meet the protein requirements ? These protein shakes are nasty and I just can't drink as much as they as me too and frankly after 8 days I am soo sick of them. I am completely starving and dont know what to do  i am eating the jello and pops and nothing is helping! I was banded on July 1st

I am no help with the horrible tasting protien drinks...I can't stomach any of them either. My dr did say I can try the protien bars and those are wonderful. So if you can get through until you can eat solids, give the bars a try...Pure Protien has a chocolate peanut butter one that is yummy with no funny tastes!:)

I am addicted to the EAS Myoplex Lite Chocolate shakes...got to have one a day..started with them at pre-op and now 7 months later still craving them!! Creamy chocolate milk!! Yummy!

Cast another vote for the Inspire Proteins. IMO, they are the best tasting--and really, 30 g of Protein in 4 ounces is a pretty big bolus.

I like to make them with almond milk--it bumps up the Calcium, and the flavor is very good.

I use Isopure Zero Carb Vanilla mix... I LOVE IT! It tastes kind of like the the mexican Horchata you get from the fountain at mexican restaurants. It mixes perfectly with water without a blender and tastes really great. 50 G of protien. It was the ONLY one my surgeon (Cedar Sinai) would allow us to use for at least the first 30 days. I'll definately continue with this one though. It's my protien for life. :)

I too was picky and found some protien shots at The Vitamin Shoppe. They have either a 26g or a 42g version in different flavors. You can drink them in about two swallows and your protien is in...Hope this Helps

What is the name of the shot ? I have a Vitamin Shoppe here i will have to check it out.

Thank you everyone for your great idea's and support !

I made the Major mistake of buying the 3lb Bottle of Isopure Cookies and Cream powder. $50.00 some odd dollars a piece. You mix 2 scoops with 12 ozs of water for 50 grams of protein. It's not ALL that bad tasting, but I am just sick of it. There are 22 servings in the 3 lb bottle. I have about half of the bottle left, So my advice is DON"T buy the HUGE bottles.

Hi there! I was banded on April 1 2010. I have had issues with all protien drinks. The insopure is  I took one sip and that was enough for me. I did however find that Shamrock farms has a protien drink that is great! it has 20g of protien and made with 2% Milk. They have three flavors , Vanilla, Shrawberry, and Chocolate. They are all great. Taste just like flavored milk. This is what Im sticking with for now. :)

There is a thread somewhere on here with tons of recipes to use with the Protein shakes. I normally put some frozen fruit with milk with the vanilla powder. I hate fruit so I feel like I am killing two birds with one stone.

I have also flavored them with sugar free pudding when I put them in the blender.

I have some other protein food ideas on my blog

hi...!

is that the rockin refuel?? I just checked it out, and it has 42 g od sugar??? yikes.....did you find a low carb one??

I liked the EAS whey protein shakes but I also ate soup--if you check the labels you can find some that are quite high in protein. There's also the liquid yogurt drinks, they have about 9 grams of protein if you don't want to eat yogurt. Cottage cheese, I agree is great, low cal and lots of protein. I made a potato/cheese soup with veg. broth, I thinned it out quite a bit and that was very good. Carrot juice or even Tomato Juice has a few grams of protein and is good for a change of pace. Good Luck!

I must be in the minority because I love the Isopure chocolate mix. I usually just put one scoop in a small glass of skim milk. You get 25g of protein from the Isopure and a few grams from the milk. While it doesn't mix great, I think it tastes pretty good.

I think the biggest difference in taste comes from pre packaged vs powder forms. I personally dont care for the pre packaged. With the powder forms you put in a little more control over what goes into it and the flavor. You can add a little greek yogurt or peanut butter or 2 or 2 frozen strawberries. I love to add low carb frozen fruit to mine. it gives it a frozen frothy cosistancy.

You gotta find what works for you and everyone is different!

During my pre and post op I used the carniation instant (sugar free of course), benprotein with 10 oz of skim milk. Now I also use the pure protein (Walmart carries a small container for $10). I really prefer the first one but the Walmart one is more convienent. :grouphug:
