Protein Shake help !
I am no help with the horrible tasting protien drinks...I can't stomach any of them either. My dr did say I can try the protien bars and those are wonderful. So if you can get through until you can eat solids, give the bars a try...Pure Protien has a chocolate peanut butter one that is yummy with no funny tastes!

How many of you had insurance cover your Lap Band?
I was approved first request with Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield. This was after I met all of their requirements.

Curious about your hernia repair
Hi there, I was curious about your hernia repairs. I know quite a few of us had them. I was wondering did you have an extra inscision from it? My Dr had to make a 3.5 inch inscision along with my 4 normal ones to fix my hernia. I meant to ask him if that was the norm or if he just couldn't access mine. How about you?

Post Surgery Questions- 48hrs out
Hi there, As far as the gas pains go, I am 8 days out and still suffering quite a bit from that. My stomach is so distended it is quite painful. As for the shower, one of the discharge requirements from the hospital was showering so I had one 24 hours after surgery. I was told I couldn't swim for 6 weeks :tt1: Good Luck!

Liquids Post Op
My Dr. also gave me the little cups to drink out of every 15 minutes...I gave it up the third day when I realized I can drink normal. I became very dehydrated so it is very important you keep dinking!

Does anyone else throw up at every meal?
Hi there, My Dr. thinks I may have vagus nerve issues as well. I am only 6 days out of surgery but I can't stop throwing up.....band is not filled so no restriciton and scans show it isn't really swollen. He told me that some time the Vagus nerve can be damaged or in my case "Fall asleep" after surgery. He told be there are medicines that can be taken to fix the proble. I hope you find relief soon!

Did anyone cry the first week??
I am so happy I found this. I was banded on the 24th and just couldn't stop crying last night wondering WTH I did to myself. It is much harder then I anticipated it being. I just want to know I will enjoy food again (not the way I used to) but still enjoy it! Ugh I can wait to go on Pureed foods. I am craving Chipoltle...and I thought I could get some of their chicken with a couple of my favorite salsas and some guac and puree it...sounds wonderful to me!:scared2:

A few Questions
Hi there, I am on day 3 post-op and I would be up to going to an appt. Day 2 was the worse pain wise and today I feel quite good. I haven't taken any pain meds. I was required to stay overnight but ended up being quite a bit longer and almost had to spend a second night due to vommiting and no urination. So I was at the hospital at 5:30 a.m and got out the next day at 7 p.m. Good luck to you!

Did you tell anyone you were having surgery?
I for the most part decided not to tell anyone. My husband of course knows, I told my best friend (who was judgemental, but kept it to herself for the most part) and one lady I know who just has it done herself. They have not said a word to anyone. I didn't even tell my own kids, as far as they know I went in for a hernia repair which was the truth. I don't want to deal with others opinions of the surgery. I know lots of people don't understand the surgery as they haven't researched it to death like we have....so I am doing it for me and that is all that matters

Getting banded on Monday...What is the most important thing(s) I need to know?
Good luck to those being banded on Monday! I was banded on Thursday. One thing that bothered me the most was the pain in my left shoulder..it was excruciating! Also make sure you get enough potassium before surgery...mine was slightly low at time of surgery then really dipped afterwards and I had to have 8 bags of Potassium drip which was more painful then child birth..it was like somone ripping the veins out of my arm. Any way, I almost had to stay a second night due to vommiting but I managed to keep some stuff down and was srpung free at about 8 last night! I am not in too much pain, I had some pretty severe brusing even my surgeon was shocked at how bad it was but it doesn't bother be to much. I was also sent home with pictures of the surgery, my kids thought that was pretty great! Good luck to you all, it will be over before you know it! Oh Yeah, I gained 4 pounds of water weight from the IV's.

Any June Bandsters???
Good luck to those of you who are scheduled next week! I will keep you all in my thoughts! I had mine on Thursday and got out of the hospital late last night (6/25). I almost had to stay a second night due to throwing up but I was abel to keep some water down so they let me go. Surgery went ok, they fixed a larger hiatal hernia which requried another inscision. I am quite sore but just taking liquid Tylenol as the stuff they prescribed me makes me throw up. The gas if by far the wrost part..My left shoulder is screaming with the gas leaving it! I my stomach looks like someone took a baseball bad to it...if my surgeon was shocked when he came and checked me yesterday so my stomach is feeling pretty sore. Again Good luck and check back in when your on the other side! BTW, my doctor gave me pictures of the surgery (inside my stomach) showing me my hernia, showed me how and where he placed the band..I thought that was pretty cool!
