port site burning, 14 months post op...

Recommended Posts

I was just curious if anyone had this issue...

I'm 14 months post op and for at least the last 7 months I've had burning at my port site off and on. Not terrible burning, just enough to be annoying. It feels like maybe something is irritating the area around the port. I haven't said anything to my surgeon because it isn't ever bothering when I actually go in to see him...of course, Murphy's Law.

I do know of someone who's port is either rubbing on or trapping a nerve - wonder if yours could be something similar?

Thanks for your response elcee! I haven't though of something like that, I guess that could be! I was thinking that I've developed an allergic reaction out of the blue...your idea sounds more likely. LOL

Maybe I should talk to my doc about it. How did they remedy the problem that your friend had?

I don't know if they have fixed it.I assume if it was bad enough it could be fixed by relocating the port. My friend discovered the problem after having a fill (not the first she'd already been banded about 2 years) and it caused her excrutiating pain.Seems strange but I suppose after losing so much weight everything moves!

You are probably right! It makes sense, I've lost 111 pounds so things have definately changed in there! It does kinda feel like something is pulling at it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
