I am 2 years post op with the lap band. I have acquired the nickname of "Murphy" as in Murphy's Law when it comes to my band. So far, right after surgery, the port flipped, which brought on surgery #2. Then 2 different times and after bouts with bronchitis, my band just arbitrarily tightened on it's own. Then after a mad crazy drive to the doctor office with a spit cup (I couldn't even swallow the spit my body was producing) Fluid was removed the problem solved and later the fluid was replaced. Just a few months ago, I had a surgery to repair a ventral hernia at the surgery sight of one of the fluoroscopic tools. With that fixed, I have now started having stabbing pains in the area of my port and today a second round of esophageal spasms that sent me to the emergency room. Heart is fine, and the pain let up, but I am at a loss as to what to do. I am so disgusted with all of it and the minimal weight loss just adds to the frustration.

Help, has anyone had any or as many problems as me or am I just the lucky one.

hey Moom - I'm curious to know if you got many responses.

I got band in March 2008. Never did work, no tightness, no fullness. They tried defills to check band and there wasn't the fluid they said they had put in. After a year my doctor did a surgery with me awake to look at the port area and see if there was a leak - no leak. He said I needed a surgery to remove the bank (it had a problem) and replace (if I wanted). then that doctor became unavailable and I saw about five others at the clinic. No answers, problem continues, no weight loss.

Eventually I couldn't eat anything healthy - salad, lean meat, etc - I could eat ice cream, chocolate, crackers, etc., so no weight loss.

In March suddently extreme restriction - haven't had any fills for 1-1/2 years - lots of throwing up. Finally admitted and put on IV since so dehydrated - ban removed.

I'm trying to decided if I should have another inserted since I haven't lost any weight just two years and three surgeries. The clinic wants another $3500 on top of the $15000 I've already paid.

I've talked to a few people suggesting the sleeve. I don't want a surgery that is going to remove part of my stomach. 2 years ago the band was the latest and greatest thing, now it's not?

Hope things are going better for you.

Gloria

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
