Hello everyone, my name is Emily and I am from Cincinnati Ohio and I am getting the lap band on june 8th 2010. Right now I am on my pre-op phase and that consumes of the liquid diet. I am having some trouble here and there and I thought that it would help me out if I had a buddy to talk to. Someone who is going through or has gone through the process and I could become friends with.

I am very excited and determined to make this whole journey successfull. I know that I will have to put in alot of hard work and dedication and I am ready for it. So please reply and let me know if anyone would like to make a buddy as well. Thanks to all!!

Hi Emily my names Dawn. I went through the process 7 months ago. I was on the liquid diet for 2 weeks. And yes I have to say it sucked. The liquid part is the hardest part of the entire process. Congratulations on the start of your journey.

I would be glad to be your buddy and help you through the process. Please feel free to add me as a friend, or email me cc-dmtermini@comcast.net

I wish you lost of luck in your journey. Remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You have come this far and you will make it to the finish line. Be strong. :cursing:

Hi Emily,

I am not far from you in lexington , KY. I am a bit behind you in the process, should get an actual date next week and I believe it will be in late June or early July.

You can do this! Just keep your mind focused on things other than eating and remember each day brings you closer to your goal!!

Best of luck to you!

Amy

Hi Ann wrote you a message, so glad you want to be buddies.

How is everyone doing with their pre-op diet. For me it has been challenging. I work at the hospital (long hours) and sometimes I get lightheaded and really tired. But I am making it and just glad that June 8th is coming up fast.

Emily

Hi Emily & Ann, I am having surgery on June 7th. Maybe we can all be buddies? My sugeron does no require a liquid diet before surgery but I am required to loose a set amount of weight. I have reached that goal and have to try and maintain that loss until surgery.:cursing:

For everyone having the surgery. The pre-op diet is the hardest part of the diet. Your body goes into starvation mode and that is why you feel tired and cranky all of the time. Hang in there. It does get better after surgery. You have made it this far. Don't give up now. You will be amazed at how you feel once you have that surgery. I wish everyone much success. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I had my lap band surgery on April 5, 2010. The absolute T

OUGHEST part in my opinion, was the two week liquid diet before....surgery was a breeze! Since pre op liquid diet, I've lost 30 pounds and feel much better. I am 41 years old but if you need someone to talk to, I would be more than happy to help you out. My start weight was 250 at 5'7 inch height, and down to 219. Challenges now are Proteins and Water, trying to get the two in on a daily basis! Ugh! But, you won't have to think about that for at least 6 weeks.

Hey everyone! I just came across this post and I am looking for some band buddies!! I was banded on the 10th and so far so good. Aside from mild discomfort I'm feeling ok. I'm excited for these two weeks of liquids and mush to be over so I can start learning how to live with this thing!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
