First let me say how awesome everyone is on this website. I've mostly been a lurker, but found the info and experiences invaluable.

I was banded last week (4/29/10). So far, most of the reactions everyone else has shared - gas, shoulder pain, chest tightness (sometimes), etc.

One problem I'm having a hard time dealing with is being tired. It's ridiculous! Fortunately, I work from home. I couldn't have made it in an office! I'll have an OK night's sleep and then need to take a 2-hour nap at lunch time.

Is this common? If so, when does it go away?!? Zzzzzz.......

Your body is still recovering from surgery so being tired is perfectly normal. Also, the greatly reduced nutritional intake is bound to make you tired and lack energy. Once you are back on solid food and get all your Protein in each day you will feel better.

Yes it is VERY normal and your body NEEDS it!!

I slept for 3 days straight pretty much. Then by the 5th-6th day I got more and more energy.

My doctor stressed the importance of taking the pain meds when needed and sleeping..and I did just that!

Take it easy and rest..you have the rest of your life to be active!

Thanks so much for the encouragement! It happened again today. Decent night's sleep. 2-hour nap at noon. 1-hour nap at 5p. I'll try to be patient!

Do they have you on broth and other sfree liquids? My doctor had me start back on my Vitamins when i got home yesterday and I swear they are helping alot. the Protein in the broth seems to help too. some people just take longer to get all the anesthetic out of their system too. Just make yourself get up and move around some and maybe that will help.

I am feeling great today and hope it stays that way.

your body will tell you what you need...listen. Take care

I am on broth, etc., but I am also taking Vitamins every day. The strange thing is that it's gotten worse the past few days. 3 or 4 days post-op wasn't so bad. Now (8 days), it's really a struggle.

I can't say I had the periods of exhaustion like you are having, but I've noticed more so than ever how sensitive I am to carbs. Even with the reduced intake in food, if I happen to eat a meal a little heavier on the carbs, I am nodding at my desk for 1/2 hour.

But that being said, you are healing and shouldn't necessarily worry about that kind of stuff right now. If you are able, continue to rest when you're tired. I don't see a reason that once your body adjusts and you are taking in more foods (and more variety) that it shouldn't straighten out soon. Best of luck in your journey.

I was banded on April 28th and am just now starting to feel better. I work out of the house too and I have limited my outside travel, I think the post op diet is quite tough to maintain and I know I have had headaches almost everyday till yesterday. Ready for some variety, stay active good luck.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
