Sometimes I can, Sometimes I can't

I had my surgery in 10/08 and have lost about 40+ lbs. Is it at much as I had hoped- No! But at least I have 40 lbs less fat to carry around.

I do not understand why sometimes food goes down and other times the same food comes back. I cannot eat solid food in the AM- My MD says its because I retain fliud at night.

Sometimes I go several days and can only do Protein shakes. Other times can eat as much as pre sugery. Tonight I ate a lg. grilled chicken salad. Two days ago I tried the same salad and lost it after I ate less than 1/4 of it.

The unpredictable nature of what I can eat makes it very difficult. Has anyone else experienced so much erratic food problems.

I have gone through phases like your describing. A week or 2 where I am either starving, or getting sick on what I eat. I have also noticed the same food will go down fine one time, and not another. I am tighter in the morning too. I have a protien shake for breakfast and that lasts until lunch. It seems to me my hunger increases throught the day. Are people experienceing such inconsistancy?

It sucks and I deal with it daily but I have lived with it for 17 months I however have lost 190lbs and well love the results. I will be doing the dance again in the morning amen to the band and all the drums. I am however tired of the Pbing. It does suck.

I've found that post band,my menstrual cycle wreaks havoc on how my body tolerates foods that I eat all the time.At least I think that's it.Good luck!Loryn

Usually if I get sick it's because I ate too fast. It's usually my fault if I get sick. My band has been very predicatable, thank goodness. Best wishes!!!

i have this same problem!!! sometimes I can, sometimes I cant... i would really like to know why this is????

I feel like you are all singing my song here. I am exactly the same 2 years banded and its still that way. Just something I have to deal with for the advantages of the weight loss. Ive grown used to it.

I've been experincing this for my last two fills (3rd & 4th). The first one was too tight and this last one feels exactly as you describe. What is really crazy is that I'm having more problems with soft foods like eggs, potatoes, etc. but I can eat hard foods such as chips just fine. I know I'm not suppose to eat much of this stuff, and I don't but I've been playing with food because I noticed that I was having issues. Then, I noticed that I couldn't eat hardly anything in the morning. Sometimes I even have a hard time with my protein shakes. It's really weird, but I am loosing weight and am seeing results. Perhaps once I get closer to my goal they can take just a little bit out of my fill so that I can eat the way am suppose to. But of coarse, I will consult with my Doctor. I understand the fustration because I feel it sometimes. Good luck everyone!

same thing here....for the last 5 days i have been trial and error on what i can tolerate.

VERY different from what i could tolerate last week....

For about 3 weeks I would have 8 pieces of shrimp cocktail for breakfast and had no problems, I had a fill and got so stuck on those 8 shrimp I thought I would rather be dead. I was like I would never do that again, it took a day and a half before I could eat again. All was going good, back to having protein shake for breakfast and cottage cheese for lunch. I had about a cup and 1/2 for lunch yesterday and got stuck again. It was that terrible pain in my stomach where all I wanted to do was lay down and stretch out. So I won't ever do that again. It just goes one day at a time. Since my last fill I can definately tell the difference from what I ate before to what I can eat now. I think I will stay at a cup of food or 4 oz's and that is all.

Most people can not eat solids in the AM when they start having true restriction. When you sleep you don't really swallow which causes your band to restrict and be tight. Drink hot liquids in the AM(I like carnation instant breakfast so at least I get some protein in the AM) and your band will loosen up.

Im really tight in the am. to. I usually cant eat any thing solid till aroud 4 some days even later. I try to do coffee or hot broth in the am. it helps loosen the band up a bit

I find that I am really tight in the morning as well. I have coffee on the way to work and a formal breakfast around 10AM.

It seems that everyone has the same issues.. I'm the same way.. but its seems to me that my pbing just come anytime of the day, most of the times it's in the afternoon, I thought I was fine on soft foods until yesterday, when I had macaroni and cheese from KFC.. it was really soft, but I brought the 2 spoons I ate back up, i could even see where it was the small pieces of noodles all broken up.. I was so digusted, it's soft foods.. I just threw it in the garbage..Sometimes I am so aggervated till I don't know what to do.. I had a real bad eposide about a month ago.. on a hot dog... I thought I was going to cause my band to slip I was vommitting so much.. I was really scared... This started after my 5th fill so I figured I'm at my sweet spot.. and I have to take it slow... becasue that could be a part of the issue.. Thanks for sharing everyone.

It is so different for me from day to day. Two days ago I ate some pasta salad then today tried the same thing and it came right back up. I think for me its just a gamble when and what I may be able to eat.
