Air in the band - what does this mean

Recommended Posts

At one of my appointments, the doctor determined my band was a bit too tight and took .5 cc out. Part of what he got was air. Then the next appointment he went to put in .25cc and had a little trouble accessing the port so he withdrew some to make sure he had the port and got some air again.

Has anyone else had this? Does it mean anything? I've had issues with food sticking a lot sometimes, other times I don't have any problem. I thought I was chewing enough, but that is what they come back as the probable cause - not chewing enough or eating too fast. I also cannot eat in the morning (Protein shakes instead). Would there be any connection?

I keep intending to ask, but forget at the time - I will ask next time, but I was wondering if anyone else had come accross this before.

I have had a few times where air was in my band as well.

The first time I thought I was over filled and convinced my doc to remove some saline from my band. As he was slowly taking saline out I felt instantly relieved and mentioned so, so he stopped and said my fill should be ok.

The next time I went to see him, he removed all of my fill ( and put in a new amount of saline which he does each visit) and I was shocked to see I had more saline in my band then I expected.

When I asked him why he didnt remove some saline the last fill he said that he was going to remove some of the fill but got air first and when I said I felt better he didnt need to remove some of the saline.

Apparently it happens sometimes.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
