Trinity, CONGRATULATIONS on the start of your journey. This is probably one of the best things that you could do for yourself. What you are feeling is perfectly normal. Make sure at this stage that you ask alot of questions and you read as much as you can on here. We are all here to help you.

Please feel free to add me as a friend. Although I am only a little over 6 months in from my surgery if I can't answer a question I will be glad to point you in the right direction. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks Dawn (I read your blog!) for the encouraging words! Of course I had a ton of questions, but for the most part the consult went really well!! They think my insurance will cover most of the procedure, but I do have to jump through some hoops to get there. From what I understand, or what I seem to be reading, it seems normal. sleep study, psych evaluation, dietician visit etc... If everything goes as expected, I could be having the surgery next month! Exciting, but I didn't think it would happen this fast!!

Well, nice to meet you and forgive me if I ask you a million+ questions!!

I LOVE questions. Please feel free to ask. So you are lucky that your surgery is so fast. I had to wait 6 months for mine because I had to go through 6 months of monitored diet and nutritional visits before my insurance would cover it. All the tests that you are having are normal.

I had 6 nutritional visits, psych eval, Gastric eval, cardio eval, pulmonary eval, and medical clearance from my primary doctor. I am glad that it took 6 months because I really learned alot from the nutritionist. I already had my sleep study because I have sleep apnea so I didn't need that one. I'm hoping that soon I will be done with the CPAP because I am getting so tired of it. I've been using it for 4 years now. My husband said that he doesn't hear me snoring anymore so I will need to have another sleep study to see if I can come off of the machine.

Today I went for my 4th fill. I think I have hit the 'sweet spot' but we will see in a couple of days. You really can't tell on liquids. Which is what you have to be on for 24 hours after your fills. Anyway they said that I have lost 49% of my body weight. They want you to lose 50% in the first year and I am only a little over 5 months in so they said I was well above the curve. I have 45 lbs to go before I am out of the obese area. The doctor said my goal weight is anywhere between 185 and lower. So I am very excited at the moment. I have been under 200 since I was pregnant with my son 22 years ago.

Please let me know how your journey is going. And as I said, ask questions. I love answering them. And what I can't answer I will do my best to find the answer for you.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
