With the rain finally stopping I am going to begin the Couch To 5K program today after work. I bought the app on my iPod Touch to guide me through it. I'm looking forward to it!

I believe I read it is 3.1 miles

I started with a half mile and thought it would kill me cuz half of it was up hill. Then I went to one mile and then two miles. Now I am up to 5 or 5 1/2 miles every day. My husband says I am obsessed. I can only say I hope so..... I believe you can do it!! If I can, anyone can..... Hugs!!!

I have that app, and started it in December, but it got too cold. I plan to start again soon.

Bit of advice. I ran a 26.2 mile marathon once, so I have a little background.

1. Get Real Good Sturdy Shoes.

2. Don't run every day.

3. relax your upper body. Lots of people work their shoulders and arms way too much when running.

4. speed doesn't matter, distance does.

5. Walkers do 5K's and take an hour to do it.

6. If your local high school has a cushioned track made from rubber, it is best to start there. It will help your knees and ankles.

7. Get GOOD STURDY Shoes........

Good Luck....

TJ

P.S. I am planning to train and do the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon in June 2011!!!

My local high school does have a new rubber track but of course there was high school track meet going on yesterday, lol, so that option was out. I went to the local park and I did step one with no problems! I haven't ran in so long, I was very surprised and proud of myself. Can't wait to go again. And I highly recommend to anyone wanting to do it, if you have an iPhone or iPod Touch to get the app. It really is great telling you when to start and stop and plays music for you right off of your playlists.

Way to go, Todd!!

I am starting week 2, day 1 tonight. Week 1 wasn't so bad. I am running on the treadmill, though. I am training for a 5K in June. My pace is pretty slow, but I figure I will work up to running for 30 minutes straight, and then I will increase my speed. :cursing:

I started a blog about my training. You can click the link below my signature if you want to read it.

Keep up the good work.

Awesome, Todd! I started C25K last week and am loving it-- I was a runner a couple of years ago (before injury), and I know a lot of people who started with that program (or similar walk/run programs) and have become life-long runners.

Good times!

Here it is. I'm 68 years old, will be banded in June, and I have a total knee replacement. But I AM GETTING READY! Tonight I did 10 minutes on my elliptical, then 20 minutes on my recumbent bike, breaking a good sweat and burning 150 calories. I am so going to make this work for me. Thanks for all your writings and insights, I need it all.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
