My wife is getting banded on the 14th with her preop diet starting on the 2nd of April. I was really hoping that we could go through this together. At least I'll be able to see the process before I go through with it. I hope it doesn't scare me too much...I've never had surgery before.

I had the surgery done last June and my husband has now decided to go ahead - he will banded on the 14th too. He wasnt keen initially but seeing me and the results I have had (slow though it has been) he has been convinced of the possible benefits. She will need a bit of help during recovery though so probably good that you can help her now and she can help you later. Good luck with it all and fingers crossed you will get your turn soon (if you decided to).

My husband is doing his 6-month required, doctor-supervised "diet" before getting the Lap-Band. My surgeon said that he has lots of husband-wife patients both get the band. But he never recommends getting it at the exact same time... because each of you will need some extra support/care during the first week or so.

Do you have a scheduled date?

Thats good information to know, about not recommended for both of us to go through it at the same time. It makes sense. Jealous wasn't the word I was thinking of, I was just hoping that we could get approved at the same time and do it together. My approval is just waiting on my medical records, once the doctor has those. I guess its just a matter of a week or so. I don't know why they need the records for though. I've only been to the doctor a few times in the last so many years. A couple for strep throat and one for a sore elbow.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
