Got my Surgery Date with Dr. Carroll in Jackson, Scared, Excited need Support

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have just gotten my surgery date with Dr. David Carroll in Jackson for March 23rd. I'm really excited but scared as well. I've read so many threads on erosion, leaking, slipping etc. I am over 300 pounds and KNOW that I need to do something but I flip flop back and forth from minute to minute. I have an 18 year old son who will be starting college this year and a 2 year old daughter. I want to be here for my kids and I want to be healthy. All these threads on the complications of the band just scare me. I know there are no promises but I sure could use some encouragement and support. My only health problem as of right now is high cholesterol but I'm not on any medication. I do have a history of diabetes and high blood pressure in my family but I don't have either yet.

I know no one else can tell me what's right or wrong for me but I would love to know your experiences. Everything I have heard about Dr. Carroll is positive and he seems to really understand obesity and this procedure so I'm not at all scared of his abilities to do the surgery right. I don't know, like I said just need some support. Oh and I guess I should also mention that I suffer from anxiety, LOL!

Bethey,

Congratulations! You are a bit ahead of me since I only have my first appointment this Thursday. I am going to the same group of doctors you are at River Oaks. I hear Dr. Carroll is the best and most experienced in the group so i wouldn't worry to much. I am going to see Dr. Adkins just because his appointment days work better with my job.

I have a 6 month old and was wondering what Dr. Carroll said regarding picking up your 2 year old?

Hi,

There is no lifting for I believe 3-4 weeks. I have repeated this to my husband about a zillion times. NO LIFTING! My daughter is a mommy's girl and it's going to be really hard especially since I'm home alone with her all day. I'm going to have to talk more in depth with Kathy or Dr. Carroll about it before the surgery. Good luck!

I've spent most of today reading and researching and I'm still worried. The slippage and erosion worries me. I have to say I'm a worrier by nature though.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
