Physical Activities

Recommended Posts

I am an avid golfer and up until 3 years ago I was into some pretty serious weight training. Are there any bandsters out there who are weight training and/or golfing who have experienced anything negative w/their bands because of the activities? Heck, have any of you experienced any weird/negative side effects from any type of strenuous physical activity?rambo.gif

Personally speaking, I have been so much more active since my Banding! I play golf once a week and since I have lost about 35lbs, my swing is alot different! I have alot more range of motion..............not resulting in lower scores, but definitely more flexibility! I am having to learn a different swing! As for working out........I am lifting weights with no discomfort whatsoever. I do all varities of lifts including squats. When I use heavy dumbells (65lbs each) for bench presses, I roll the dumbells over my torso to get into position (a weight lifter would know what I am talking about) with a little discomfort over the port site (but tolerable). I am also jogging about 3-4x/week about 30mins each session. I also ride my bike about 2x week for a total of about 40-50miles. All this activity...........and only 35lbs lost! I'm still consuming way too much food, but that is another subject. I still have little restriction! Anyway, to answer your question and concerns, the band has only helped in acheiving my current fitness level! I am preparing myself to enter a duathlon sometime in the near future! I know that once I reach a more optimum level of restriction, my weight loss will start to rock and roll! Oh, I forgot to mention, I have a pretty strenuous job with lots of lifting, bending, twisting.etc. No problems with the band! Yet (knock on wood)!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
