So I'm 3 weeks post op and I'm still so hungry. I'm having a hard time keeping the exact eating and drinking schedule the nutritionist gave me b/c I'm a teacher. You eat when you're told you have lunch not when another schedule tells you to eat. I've switched two times to help this, but I'm still hearing and feeling my stomach. No head hunger here - real growling happening. Is anyone feeling this?

I go for my first fill on Jan. 18th, but they have already told me they would only put 1cc in the band. That would mean I'd have 4cc's total. How can I talk them into doing more? Say 1.5 or 2 even? I was always a volume eater before so I'll need as much restriction as I can get!

What you describe is very normal. During the first few weeks until I had enough restriction to make it 3-5 hours between meals I would drink a Kellogg's Protein Water to hold me over. I believe it is 50 calories and 5g protein but it did help me a lot. Another suggestion, low fat string cheese is about 60 calories and will do the same thing.

The first 6 weeks or so is all about your band settling, scar tissue forming and all the swelling going away. Unfortunately it is not about weight loss and basically you could eat as much as you want too. I got through the stages with Soups and soft cheese the Protein seemed to help the headaches a bit. Just remember you have no restriction whatsoever. I was given my first fill at 3 weeks and that helped heaps. It took about 4 fills to find my ssweet spot and once you find it you will be comfortable with a cup of food 3 times a day. If you are not you havent found that sweet spot yet!! good luck

I'll be 3 weeks tomorrow and while I definitely can eat more than I am supposed to I'm also definitely as hungry as I used to be. I'm trying to eat 3 small (but not small enought) soft/healthy meals, late morning I break out the string cheese and late afternoon I eat a small low fat yogurt...it seems to be the magic combo that will keep me from grazing until my next meal....I don't know what else to tell ya, it will get better, just do your best and be patient! Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
