Although I'm not a vegetarian, my best friend is, and I spend lots and lots of time at her place cooking veggie Indian food (she's from Bombay). Indian food has some unbelievably delicious choices for vegetarians. I love Paleek Paneer (spinach with cottage cheese) and all of the yummy nutritious veggies with exotic herbs and spices. One of my favorite dishes that she makes isn't strictly "Indian", but a variation on the British Beans on toast. Let me tell you, I thought beans on toast would be extremely horrible, but I am here to say that the way my friend makes it, ALL of our friends, including me, beg for it on a regular basis! It is literally one of the most delicious foods I've ever eaten. It's also super high in protien and Fiber and super low in fat and calories! And it's extremely fast and easy to make. Here's the recipe: Two cans Vegetarian Baked Beans (Heinz) 1.5 or two fresh green Chili peppers, chopped 1/2 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped Two fresh garlic cloves, minced One onion, chopped One turn of the pan of olive oil Sliced whole grain bread Directions: Pour about one turn of the pan with olive oil and heat. Sautee garlic, onion, and chili peppers together until all are somewhat soft. Pour baked beans into pan and cook on low to medium heat for about ten minutes to let the flavors sink in. Add in cilantro and lower heat. Simmer for five minutes. Serve over toasted whole grain bread. Let me know if you try it and how you like it if you do!

doctor holding records hostage
paisleypea replied to joeyramonesgirl's topic in Insurance & Financing
yes - do keep us posted! I am afraid of this happening to me too. I went to get my medical records from my most recent dr. and the records gal called me back to say that they don't have anything from a prior doc. i remember NOW having a frustrating time and requesting the records from her 3 or 4 times in 2006. Great - now I really need them for the 5 year history and.......when I called today it was a voice recorder. They are open "by appt only". good grief! that is why I left. no one else works in the office but she and her dr. husband. she is kind of a bully (and skinny too) and would make me come back week after week after week. I'd need "blood work done" so had to fast and come back, then come back for the results. seriously? my other docs always mailed them. that is why I left. but I am scared to deal with it over and over and over. i am CLOSE. it's my biggest hurdle, this 5 year history junk. -
Has anyone ever done the Lemon Cleanse (Master Cleanser)? Its not a diet rather a natural means of cleaning out the toxins and bacteria in your system. One of the side effects is the loss in weight (of course your fasting). I gave the book a quick read yesterday (its about 20 pages.) Its a liquid fast that involves a lemon cleanser, saltwater cleanser and herbal laxative tea. I am going to start it tomorrow for the next ten days. I did the Salt Water flush today and lets just say that you cannot venture too far away from the toilet after drinking this stuff. I will let you know how it goes. Here is a quick list for those you might want to give it a whirl. Let me know how it goes. http://www.falconblanco.com/health/cleansing/lemoncleanse.htm

So grateful - Dr Quinones
KQH replied to HikeEveryMountain's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm 2.5 months post-op and my scars are still really visible but fading fast. I have no doubt that I could wear a bikini and no one would notice. My stretch mark "scars" will be much more noticeable than the sleeve scars once the sleeve scars fade to skin color. Plus I'm super pale (and 47) so everything like that is extra visible on me -
My super exciting pre op diet
BetsyB replied to emeraldinthesky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Different docs, different patients, different bodies, different rules :smile2: You didn't get a particularly liberal diet--you are getting, from food, the same things others get from Opti-Fast. A low-carb diet that will reduce the liver's glycogen stores. My doctor's regimen is not as restrictive as many--but it is severely carb-restricted, and lasts 2 weeks. The carb restriction is what shrinks the liver. You can achieve that using shakes---or a number of other ways. Like the one your doctor recommends The two days of liquids clear out the bowel. -
Bcbs insurance anyone?
mytime4me replied to Curiousme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just sleeved a few days ago. I have horizon bcbs of NJ. They required the usual 6 month weigh in and safety pre-op stuff but approval was very fast. It took my doctors staff almost a month to compile the paper work to send to them!!! Once they got it, it was fully approved in 48 hours. Know what you need from your coverage, make sure everything is sent over together and hopefully they will approve quickly too! Good luck -
I also have shoulder pain if I eat to fast or eat something I probably shouldn't have.

Will anyone ever notice my weight loss?
desertmom replied to Alexra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I have lost 36 pounds since op but 60 something since Feb. One of my friends have told me just yesterday that our other friends talk about it behind my back everytime they've seen me.They say nothing to my face however...... I think people might not know how to react to the fact that one's had WLS.I know that I have lost my best friend since the operation. She's just made strange comments about me having to eat that little, then started say I dont want to do the things we did before....eating..I want but cant.....and then she just started staying away more and more.... Hey that's life.....obviously one must be able to see the difference in you what with shrinking so many sizes already...maybe they just dont know what to say..... What are you doing to lose that fast anyway??????????Great going..... -
Just had my pre-op appt y'all, and after spending a decent amount of time reading all the wonderful info on this board, I'm feeling concerned/confused. I'm being banded next Thursday at Northwest Weight Loss Surgery in Everett, WA and we reviewed the post-op diet. I want to be succesful. I will follow what they tell me to do. BUT... ...they have recently revised their post-op to be: 1 week full liquids (which includes applesauce, yogurt, pudding), followed by 1 week of mushies (soft fish, scrambled eggs), then on to more solid foods. First fill at 4 weeks. I fully understand the need to have the band heal and settle in place. I'm seriously thinking of extending my phases to have an extra week of liquids and an extra week of mushies. I'll be damned if I move through things to fast just to cause issues down the road. Am I nuts??

It makes it so much better when you deal with great doctors and staff, doesn't it??? Good luck with your surgery in June! It's gonna come really fast!!! :-D -
Just wait until you get to more solid foods. You'll be amazed how fast you get full. Two ounces of ricotta bake, and I feel like I ate Thanksgiving dinner. (My surgery was on the 12th) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I felt the same until just now. I got caught up in a work meeting and opened my Protein shake for Breakfast. I drank it too fast (11 oz within about 15 mins) and I'm MISERABLE. It's very clear it's too much liquid at once. Before that, I didn't ever feel a restriction in terms of liquids.
-
A few sips is only a handful of calories and liquid goes through a sleeve pretty fast. Just keep sipping that Protein drink. My goal was 3 a day, but I could usually only get in two. This hungry stuff will most likely stop when you hit soft foods and can get your protein in via "real" food. Make sure you are taking your PPI, too. Too much tummy acid mimics the feeling of hunger.

So.. still 7 days before my appt. but I've decided to try and lose what weight I can before getting banded so I'm gonna try the slim fast plan. I'm pretty excited about it. It seems sensible and something I can stick to seeing as I don't eat all that much anyway but maybe this will help me get into eating healthier.

First off, I think if you have dropped that much weight ON YOUR OWN in that period of time, it is an AMAZING accomplishment! Secondly, I would ask if you ever tried No-Salt salt substitute. I remember on one of my many diets they said to make sure I use that because it is potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride and dieting depletes your potassium. But, if you are on a liquid diet, that probably scraps that idea unless you want to drink it in your Medi-Fast shakes (eww). I would guess you need to talk to your Dr. about a potassium supplement--are you not taking multi-vitamin supplements now?

I am tired. Physically, mentally...you name it. It's all tired. I know what I have the opportunity to do here. I just can't find the jumping off point, the selfish self-caring button inside me to get motivated to care for myself. I have been blessed with a job that has an insurance company that will most likely pay the majority of the bill for a surgery that I can use as a tool to help shed this other layer of body that is encasing what I should be. I live where one of the best centers and doctors for this surgery happens to be. There are many things to consider. The mere fact of another abdominal surgery is a tremendous one. 3 c-sections and a gallbladder removed has already left enough trauma to that area. Having a permanent device implanted is causing a bit of a phobic reaction. Normal fears of surgery, allergies to meds I have experienced, etc. have all surfaced. The fact that I have a painful disability in my heels that cause me to have limited exercise ability. Also a torn miniscus in my knee that needs surgery, ironically caused from the physical therapy to my heels. My addiction to carbs and sugars is causing me to consider whether I can make this worth it. It is so serious that I have considered going to a physician for some kind of anti-compulsion meds to see if this will curb the cravings. It may be my lack of energy because of sleep apnea that leads me to sugar and caffeine. I seldom want protiens, maybe this is why the vegetarian lifestyle is so easy for me. There are plenty of healthy vegetable protiens but I only seem to want carbs, even after a detox or a fast. So much to consider. It is so obvious to others that I need to do this. Even my dad, who is anti-everything, is supportive of it. I have at least a month to make the decision. If I cannot get my sugar problems under control I don't see how this will work.

3 week post op on reg food
lessismore4me replied to omgitstisha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would always stay away from fast food. Too many hidden sugars and fats. Time to take control and responsibility for what you are choosing to eat. People here will tell you go back to your basics, drink your Meal Replacement shakes and be sure you are drinking enough Water. Add soft foods slowly that you cook yourself so you know exactly what is in the food. You are going to do great. Remember to move your body doing things you enjoy.???? Gretchen, First please remember that you cannot compare your results to anyone else. Some people lose fast, some slower. Plus, you were only banded one month ago. I was banded back in September and probably had a lot of the same feelings you are now, but once I got my fourth fill (yes FOURTH fill - because my doctor will only fill .6 cc at a time) things FINALLY fell into place and I felt that I really only then knew what the purpose of the band was for. The first few weeks really are tough, because it really is for healing only, but also for one to keep practicing the bandsters way of eating, because when you do get those fills and get that awesome restriction you WILL have to change your ways or else you will vomit, PB and all that other fun stuff people talk about. Please remember that it is a not a journey of who can get the weight off the quickest! Good luck!

avoiding temptation when...
shellyd88 replied to glitterpockets's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It shouldn't be much of an issue for two or three months u likely won't want it and like the others have said there isn't a lot of space in there so u better eat the protein first and u get so full really fast I'm five months post op I still can't eat more than a 1/2 cup at a time which my dr office says is right so don't worry too much about it I cooked and froze 6 weeks worth of dinners for my husband before my surgery I'm glad I did too I didn't feel like cooking at all -

Welcome back Bec and welcome Brooke! Congrats on trying to have a little one! I have 3 girls who are nearly grown. They grow up way too fast. Enjoy this time with DH. Soon you'll be preg. I know of another bandster with a similar story and she did get preg after losing the weight. Best wishes to both of you! -

well i have my test next week, then paper work will be submitted. iam worried i wont get approve because i am 33% bmi, i have high blood pressuer and am on medication for it, i hope that they see this in accordance with my age and approve me, the lady at the center was pretty optomisitc. i wound why would they go through all the trouble if they didnt think i had a good chance of approvel. i have tricare standard and have read that some people have gotten approved quit fast and the opposite for others. well i guess all i can do is keep my fingers crossed.:frown: -
WooHoo! I am so excited for you. Things move fast from this point, or at least they did for me. Once my Dr.s office received my auth, I had surgery 5 days later. I hope all goes smooth for you!

Okay, so I had the lap band surgery on August 30th 2011 and it went perfectly. I got home and was dropping weight (24 lbs within the first 2 weeks). I suspect this was simply due to the liquid diet that followed the surgery. Fast forward, it is no October 13th 2011 and I'm staying staying right about 257 and can't seem to get bellow that dispite walking everyday. I have lost inches however. I am now considering trying NutriSystem or Weight Watchers to help. Anyone have any suggestions on how to start getting the weight to start going down? I must be doind something wrong.

When i crave dairy I opt for string cheese sticks that weight watchers make..I eat cottage cheese with fruit and when i make my egg white omelets in the morning I used cheddar..I love cheese in my salads too..I havent eaten fast food since Ive been banded..if i decide to i will opt for a side salad with chicken...make sure u take your multivitamin and calcuim supplements..I incorporated vitamin b12 and protein shakes into my diet..when i go food shopping it is so expensive...i pay $60 a week on food..but I buy things like chicken and other meats in bulk to save $$..ive been clipping coupons to help too!!
