    Pouch!

Hello Amy, I experienced that same sensation. My bypass was on the 7th of May. The first post-op day was smooth, when they brought me my medicine cups and water and a schedule to record my intake/times, I had no problem getting my fluid in. I kept wondering, shouldn't this be more difficult? After I came home, my head hunger and my ease of swallowing continued. On my 5th-7th post of day, my experienced fullness for the first time. I thought I was going to vomit or die, it was so uncomfortable. Now even sips of water, protein shakes, and bites of yogurt fill me up immediately. I have chalked this up to a couple of things: 1. Anesthesia and the lingering after effects allowed me not to feel the restricted stomach size, and 2. Now that I am off my pain medication and anesthesia including and pain blocking they may have performed during surgery is out of my system. My honeymoon period with my new pouch is over and I treat (her) very kind. I have eliminated anything but my protein shakes (2 oz feels like a Thanksgiving dinner) water, and yogurt. I am learning more about my body tha I ever have. I cannot drink milk or dairy products without much regret. Sugar-free anything is also an absolute no-no for me right now. I move onto pureed food later this week and I can't wait to see what other fun and interesting things my pouch has in store. One trick I have always used in dealing with any unpleasant experience is to maintain a curious mindset. My new digestive 'engine' went from diseil to electric so I am learning an entirely new owner's manual. Lean and clean fuel. Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Puree foods HELP !

Sorry, purées just suck. There are people on here that purée normal meals and eat em (meatloaf, fajitas, etc) so that's one option (bleh!!!). I personally ate a lot of beans/bean Soups. Retried Beans thinned with a little chicken broth, add puréed salsa, shredded cheese, sour cream. Bean Soup cooked til it's mush and the vegetables are completely falling apart. Egg salad (boiled egg, dab of mayo, mustard, salt, pepper. At first I puréed this, then further out just used my fine grater to grate the eggs. Broccoli cheese soup puréed with my ninja, roasted squash soup also puréed. I was not super creative but the thought of pureeing meat horrified me!!! So I avoided meat for the most part. Oatmeal/cream of wheat but use caution, this is where I started dumping. sugar free pudding made with sKim or 1% milk, add a scoop of Syntrax nectar (pick your flavor) and stir with the pudding powder before adding milk. Covers the Protein flavor fairly well. 1/2 cup has 100 calories and 10 grams of protein. And of course, smooth Greek yogurt. I use dannon light and fit greek 2x the protein, 80 calories, 12 grams of protein. Play around with it! You'll find something you can tolerate. My emergency lunch meal was egg drop soup, just strain out the chunks. Lived off this for lunch during the week! Google the world according to eggface. She has many ideas. Her ricotta cheese bake (ricotta, mozzarella, spaghetti sauce) was also one of my purée staples! Good luck!!!! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.2

    Pre-Op Diet

I am on my pre op diet, too --- mostly yogurt, sf jello, and protein shakes. I like the Atkins Advantage, tho, so I don't mind them - and they stave off the hunger well. We can do it - just focus on your goal! My friends who have had the surgery said the pre op diet is the worst part of the whole process.

    Crackers

Ok so I stayed home from work today because I felt horrible in the morning (have my period). I've been so bored all day and I've found myself snacking... Mostly healthy like chicken breast or fruit or Greek yogurt... But then I had about 7 saltine crackers. I know I did it out of boredom and head hunger... I have food in the house that I'm supposed to eat... But I couldn't make myself stop! Now I'm completely full I guess what I'm asking is is it ok to mess up every now and then?

    ????????Quick Question❓

I have tried it in many things but not crystal lite. I love it in my morning coffee. I whisk the powder with my sugar free creamer real well then add my coffee. It is awesome and love to be able to get some of my Protein intake for the day without really tasting the protein. By the way it is nasty in yogurt.

    What foods play well together?

So the omelet I had the other day with Beans and cheese was not good for me to have based on this report. I wish they would have said more about what kind of digestive troubles. Because in this phase in my diet, that is what I am allowed to eat. "Beans with milk, eggs, cheese, yogurt, meat and fish. Although these combinations are common in some Latin American cuisines, it’s possible that their eaters’ bodies have become accustomed or adapted to these combinations. Nonetheless it’s not a reason to continue, and the unhabituated might experience digestive troubles." The other combines not to eat made sense to me.

    snacks

I am wondering what kind of snacks everyone is eating? I found some trail mixes are pretty good for you and nuts. Along with yogurt and sugar free popsicles. I have also stocked up on string cheese. I would love to add some more things into my life that have some more protein content in it. Sometimes the same things get old. I bought a few protein bars that had lots of protein but tasted horrid
  8. So...I got up on Sunday morning and much to my surprise I had lost another 2 lbs...I was down to 173. I was AMAZED to say the least. I began to try on clothes that finally fit and pulled out the box with all of my old clothes. Several 12s fit and the 10s actually could be pulled up but not zipped. I was excited but something was bothering me. I could not figure it out. I went to the grocery store and decided to buy myself a treat of baked cheetos. The entire day I wanted to eat them....not uncontrolled binge like in the past but just steady need to eat. I was sabotaging myself and I couldn’t figure out. Something about being really cute again and fitting into shorter clothes scared the hell out of me. I have been trying to figure out what it is… First of all, it is such a foreign feeling…so much so that it felt uncomfortable and second, is the male reaction. My best guy friend of 5 years hit on me two weeks ago. It really bothered me bc he never has hit on me before and because now I feel like he sees me in the “sexual” way—what about our friendship??? In addition, I find guys hitting on me and giving me the time of day that didn’t use to. When I was fat I wanted guys to still see me as pretty and now that I have lost weight—I want them to see my personality and not just me as a sexual object. Does this make any sense? Now—how do I get out of the self sabotaging way and move past the uncomfortable-ness of this new foreign feeling and the male reaction to my outside and not me as a full person. By the way...I was up 6 lbs between yesetrday and today. I finished th4e bag of cheetos and had a frozen yogurt. WAY less bad than I would have been 2 years ago but still frustrating. I suspect part of the weight is all the sodium. I didn't eat enought o gain that much weight. ARG!! HELP! <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________

    Post-op breakfast ideas

Around 6 weeks. I stir mine and make them really creamy. If I may also add a bit of either unflavored Protein powder to it or a bit of greek yogurt towards the end of cooking (I don't use the instant kind). It makes them nice an creamy.

    How do you stay healthy?!?!

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I recognize my diet isn't ideal... but Im on a student's budget, so it's hard to do fresh fruits and veggies sometimes... a lot easier to get cheap junk. Anyone know of inexpensive quick meals that are relatively healthy? I definitely will start having some more tuna (since I actually like it) and I think smoothies and yogurt would be key. I'm a picky eater so that makes it tough in terms of Soups and such, but there were aton of great suggestions here.
  13. Sleeved 9/6/16. I know you don't want to hear about shakes. I stopped drinking them after surgery. They made me nauseous. I did find a recommendation on this app about 7-8 weeks post surgery that suggested genepro. I have been using it ever since. One small scoop is 30 grams of protein. Doesn't taste like anything. Don't put your nose in it. Made me nauseous to smell it in the beginning. Now i don't notice the smell. I mixed it in yogurt, soup, and now in my milk for my decaf latte just to jump start my protein intake. Good luck.
  14. Ok so Im about 2 weeks post op and have to say I feel better than expected. I've lost about 17 pounds since surgery and about 30 since I began this process and even though my Wii Fit syas Im obese who cares I lost 30 pounds!!!!!!! I've started softer foods and had a nasty encounter with a saltine cracker I've been able to eat Chili and cottage cheese and yogurt some baked tater tots and croutons. True that I have to chew the hell out of it but it's well worth it. Scramble eggs go down well if not to dry and if you put some salsa on them they are excellent. If you have any pointer and or recipes please let me know MERRY CHRISTMASS!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Tony Chachere's Original Creole Seasoning (can be found at walmart). It is great to add to any mushie meal that you would typically salt (a little spicy) and Greek yogurt with honey or peanut butter or both. Both made mushie's much more tolerable!

The jouney has begun... let's get the party started!

Hi, You had surgery on my first surgery date I wanted July 20 so bad. It seemed it would take forever to get here. I had finished all my pre op work in early June and got a call on a Friday to see if I wanted to have my surgery on that next Monday? I was like Hell Yes I am sick of waiting around. June 29th came and went and I am now banded for a little over a month or so. Got my first fill 1 week ago and have been having problems at every meal. I eat to fast choose the wrong foods and seem to have forgotten all I taught about chew, chew, chew to beat the band. I do keep Greek Yogurt with honey or fruit on hand it is smooth and goes down easily. When I am starving. It is usually head hunger. With God's help I hope I can make better choices tomorrow. Best wishes on your journey. imaluckydog
  17. I was banded on Tuesday May 19th. It was my second attempt at the band(Two years ago I went in, but my liver was so enlarged I did not get banded at that time). So, after having the laproscopic surgery twice in two years, I can say. YES, everything hurts and it is totally normal. Surgery can be a big shock to your body. Let yourself sleep as much as you need to, and walk when you can. Ice packs on your incisions help alot, and putting a heating pad across your shoulders also helps a good deal, especially with the gas pain. I did not have a BM for three days after surgery and when it comes, it is LESS then pleasent, but normal. My doctor told me I could have yogurt after the third day, and I had one friday morning. The yogurt has active live cultures in it and should help with the BM. just check with your surgeon to see if they will allow you to have it. I am still alittle sore, but my mobility is back and aside from the hunger, I feel good. I hope you get there too... good luck

    1 week out..

I've been lactose intolerant most of my adult life and can tolerate cheese and yogurt but not milk or much ice cream (now I don't eat it at all). I have been drinking the Premiere shakes recently and haven't had an issue. Your mileage may vary. You may want to try some protein powder in your yogurt or mixed with crystal lite. That's a bummer. Hope you feel better soon.

    My experience

You shouldn't have yogurt or applesauce till your dr clears you for puréed foods. If you have them you will possibly slow down your healing and set yourself back.

    Picky Pouch

I have a picky sleeve that 6 months out still hates poultry--particularly breast meat, is hit or miss on pork, fish and eggs, but tolerates rare steak just fine (go figure). Greek yogurt is still a staple as are soups and shakes. Some days my sleeve even decides shakes are a no go....mostly if i drink it too fast though.

    Help always hungry!

I also find that the shakes don't keep me that full. Greek Yogurt is another. I only have them on occasion as I find I am hungry an hour later. And then I am having something like tea to keep my mind off of it. I try to eat every three hours. I do better when I stick to a schedule. Good luck- LA

    I Hate Eating....

Yes, in the beginning I hated eating too. I ate alot of mushies, yogurt, sf pudding, soups, whatever was easy to go down. Now I don't have any difficulties eating and I'm 4.75 months post op. So it does get better, hang in there!

    Not that Interested in food

I get food cravings at times. It's manageable. I keep healthy options for sweet and salty foods on hand. (make sure they fit your plan) Sweet - fruit dipped in sugar free caramel/chocolate syrup. Dannon light n fit yogurt. Skinny girl raspberry vinaigrette on a chicken strawberry salad. Salty- Jerky, veggies dipped in hummus or chicken fajitas. Food may be a chore at first. Real and head hunger will return. Eat real whole foods to hit your protein goals. It will help you feel more satiated. As you progress you will be able to consume more food.(especially sleeves) Eating shakes and bars for meals is not sustainable long term. Keep them on hand for times your on the run and cant get a meal in. Some recipes to help get out of food ruts: This is my dietitians website https://insidekarenskitchen.com/recipes/bariatric-friendly-recipes/
  24. Hi all I'm not banded, still in the research stage, but I'm going to start adding in Protein shakes & fresh fruit smoothies (with added protein) into my diet to replace Breakfast and lunch. I've found that I probably don't eat enough, I usually only eat one good meal a day, sometimes two but I don't snack in between. I usually just have a small lunch and dinner but I've had a hard time understanding why I'm overweight when I'm not eating all the time and not eating a bunch of junk. So I want to add in the shakes/smoothies for breakfast & lunch and eat a meal at dinner to see if that will help get my motabilism going. My question is, what are good nutrition guidelines for them as far as how much (how many ounces), how many calories, how many carbs & protein. The reason I ask is because I was looking at this recipie (and I now it's only one recipie) but it is only 8 oz. I thought maybe I could double it but the carbs for a single serving are 16.2--if I double the recipie the carbs would be 32.4 (without protien added). I'm worried that only 8 oz won't fill me up and if I double it, aren't those carbs kind of high? Here's the recipe (from www.skinnytaste.com): Very Blueberry smoothie Gina's Weight Watcher recipes Servings: 2 • Serving Size: 1 cup • Old Points: 1 pt • Points+: 2 pt Calories: 80.5 • Fat: 0.0 g • Protein: 3.4 g • Carb: 16.2 g • Fiber: 3.0 g Ingredients: 3/4 cup blueberries 1 cup crushed ice 6 oz WW blueberry nonfat yogurt What are some good nutrition guidelines I should follow in making these to replace meals? I figure it will be good to do and add in exercise, especially if I have an all liquid pre-op diet when I do get banded

Protein snacks 3 weeks post op?

I wasn't allowed seeds or nuts for 6-8 weeks and "snacks" were highly discouraged. I did eat hummus, yogurt, mashed avocado, warmed Peanut Butter, bisque soups', cheese'. I was still on purees' at three weeks. In fact, I'd just started it.
