    Weight loss plateaus!

We all have them... last summer I stalled in August, Sept, Oct. and started losing again in Nove. I did not gain but I just simply stalled. I did change up my exercise , I started jogging instead of walking and work out 1 hr. instead of 45 minutes. That got me out of my stall.

Im getting excited now!!! Almost ready to submit...

Well, I went to my PCP today to get my Letter of Medical Necssity. I then walked it over to my surgeons office (Dr. Mason) along with my 5 page letter to the insurance company, my fat pictures, my lab work and my MRI taken on Friday June 30th. Come to find out I have a herniated disc between my L4 and L5. SO that is whats causing all the pain!!! AT LEAST I KNOW!!! :phanvan So now Im only waiting on my LMN from my OBGYN and my psych eval. Those letters should be in transit to the surgeons office this week. So perhaps we will be submitting all my paperwork by the end of this week!!!! OMG!!!! And Ive seen where Great-West has approved in less than 24 hours!!!! I may be getting a surgery date before I know it!!!!!! WOOOOO HOOO!!!!!!

    New Begining

My name is Christie and i am from Marshall Tx. i had my surgery on 3/22/2010. As of today i have lost 6 lbs. I am getting back to normal but the snack attacks are getting to me. I did however buy some rice cakes, babybel cheese and triscuits and chewed very slow but to pretty much liquify them. I am very happy about the procedure. Dr. Merriman from shrevport la did my surgery and i think he did a wonderful job. My husband has noticed a change in me but i haven't at this time. I am very much looking forward to the loss of weight. I walk everyday now about a mile and use my wii fit every night. There is so much that you can do as a working mom. I really think this is the best thing i could have done to save my life. If anyone would like to chat just drop me a note and i would be glad to get back with you and tell you about my experience as a one week down post op lap band patient. :blushing:

Back to my normal happy self!

Tomorrow is my 3 weeks post op, I also feel amazing!! Glad you are feeling as good as I am. I've actually been up and moving with no pain meds since I left the hospital! Good luck with your journey!!!
  7. After 6 weeks, YOU NEED TO EAT HARD Proteins. There really is no reason to rely on Protein Shakes. You can get in the proteins with Beans, meats, fish, milk, many many things. The object of the band is for you to eat 'hard' proteins, not rely on soft foods which slip through your band and are way more calorie dense than real proteins. You can cook all sorts of things in your slow cooker, chicken breasts are great for Protein. I eat lots of chili. Subsidizing with protein shakes is one thing, if you are unable to get in all your protein for a day, but there really is no need to rely on them if you are choosing good hard proteins, veggies and drinking all your Water. If you just have to have protein drinks, try something new. Lean Body shakes are good, Atkins shakes are good, Isopure has some drinks that are really high in protein. Variety is the spice of life! Go for it!
  8. Okay ppl...I had my last fill on Tuesday of this week. I now have 5 cc's in a 10 cc band. I feel restriction in my chest but am still hungry?:faint::faint:I try to eat that cup of food they recommend but then I am hungry. So I try to eat some more and then I am ok. I can't eat a cup of food. It cannot hold me for long. I am getting frustrated. Today I talked to Billiejane and the SWLC and got some clarity but cannot it is not gelling. They say they rather I eat food instead of protein shakes but I see a lot of people here are successful with them. Do I need more of a fill? What do I do until then? C'mon ppl help a sister out.
  9. Really glad to hear from you all. Makes me feel somewhat better. I hope I have sleep apnea. Isn't that crazy? I can't self-pay. I guess I could, but since we've been paying 13,000 for health insurance for years, these folks can pay out! I have anthem b/c. Anyone else have this insurance and what was your experience with it? I called them myself and they said there was no waiting period and I needed a doctor's authorization. Sounded easy, but I am sure there is a lot more involved. Was hoping to get banded the 2nd week of Dec., but may be Jan. I want all the input I can get! Thanks. Linda

I had it two weeks ago
  11. I am in month three of my 6 month supervised diet, and I've lost some weight, and now I've gained a few pounds over the holidays...but overall am still down a couple of pounds from my beginning weight. I think most of all the insurance companies want you to just fulfill the requirement of 6 months with doc visits to show your dedication to a lifestyle change. My insurance doesn't say any certain amount is required to be lost before the 6 months is up. But, I am trying to learn something in this six months, so I do hope to lose about 10% of my body weight by the time the 6 months is up. Just a thought!
  12. Don't be scared I am a big baby and I did it so I know you can too. The surgery it not bad and the recover is pretty short. I am only 7 weeks post op, but I am feeling fine. I have only had one fill. I eat pretty much whatever I want keeping Protein in mid first. I really do not get hungry, but did for weeks 2 - 4 post op. I have lost about 22 lbs so far.
  13. My name is Nikki. I'm a mother of three living in Southern California. I'm currently looking for the right doctor/clinic to have the surgery. I'm paying out-of-pocket so I also need a place that has financing. I am SO glad I found these forums as I was feeling a bit lost, wandering around the internet looking for information. Looking forward to 'talking' to everyone. If anyone has a doctor recommendation (or someone I should avoid) for the Simi Valley/Westlake/Ventura area, please let me know!
  14. Hello, So far, and I am only 7 weeks post op too it has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. 10 weeks ago I was taking 8 pills for various illnesses. Diabetes to HBP to sleep apnea, and high cholesterol. Today I am on ZERO medications. As with any surgery your nerves will probably get the best of you all the way till they take you back to surgery room, I know mine did. I would do it again in a hearbeat and I look forward to being at a weight I have not been in almost 20 years. You will do fine, and keep us informed.
  15. I think you should even if it is for moral support. Since everyone' s experience is different is hard to say. I had a lot of adminal soreness and needed help getting up and down. I felt crappy and having someone helping me was a blessing. We go through so many emotional and physical changes the first week. My BF is awesome. He has kept me in check. Tonight I took the container of sugar free Jello out of the fridge. Grabbed my toddler spoon and began to eat. He said what are you doing. He took the container. Measured out 4 ounces and scorned me not to overdo it. That's a bad habit the old Lewanda would do eating out of the container. I'm sure had he let me continue I would be sick because although I had my toddler spoon in hand I probably would have eaten to much and be suffering right now.

    New Here, 8 Yrs Post-Op

You can ask me anything Mami, I'm not one of those that may get offended. Honesty is always best. After time, your pouch may stretch. This could be due to a number of factors. I do believe in my case that it has a lot to do with feeling comfortable, too comfortable, and not using my tool as it should be used. I love carbs as many people do and I know that I've made the wrong choices in not eating my protein FIRST. And if you begin to eat "slider foods" (foods that slide right out of your pouch and into your intestines) you don't get that full feeling you are supposed to feel, like when you eat lean protein. Also, I had completely given up soda until 2 yrs ago when I thought diet coke was okay because it was DIET. The thing that I've just learned through my reading this week is that the carbonation too can stretch your pouch. As I said, my weight was consistently stable for almost 6 yrs. I've seen so many people that have gained back more than 50% of what they lost and statistics show the average regain is 50% over a 5-10 year span. I am not going to allow myself to be in that 50%. I'm just glad I remembered that my body doesn't work like the average persons. And that weight loss plans such as Weight Watchers and the like, will not work for me. Too many fruits, veggies, carbs and just too much food in general. Another thing I'm guilty of is drinking WITH my meals. After time, you think I can take a sip here and there and then you're having a cup. When you drink with your meal, two things happen...you're either filling your pouch not leaving room for healthy foods and you get hungry sooner or you are washing the food out of your pouch...thus you eat more because you don't have the full feeling...it all depends on the food and the person. Sorry this response is so long, the things I've remembered this week just keep coming back. I guess that's actually a GOOD THING.

Wow, its been a month since I posted? I should be ashamed of myself. Whats new, well, shoulder is still not healed, and really struggling these days to even get any exercise in. Well, to be honest, I haven't exercised in awhile, and I finally made it back to the gym last night. I am not lifting weight since I have an injury but I am doing cardio. Eating has been on and off. We went on vacation July 4th week and that started me down the bad path. It took 3 weeks for me to quit eating bad and get back on track. I am finally back on track and trying to get back to exercising. I guess I just a break from everything, eating right, exercising and blogging. I'm refocussed again and will start blogging again. It holds me accountable. Bfast - protein shake Lunch - FF tuna salad with 4 crackers Snack - grapes (red seedless) Dinner - roasted chicken and fresh tomatoes snack - Skinny Cow ice cream bar Exercise - 30 min on elliptical machine. wt - this morning 162.9 grrrrrrr
  18. today I went to the swap meet.i saw a gorgeous yet petite jumper outfit so I walked in cautiouslyand asked the foreign saleslady how much for it. she quickly [goofy smirk] replies : it not for you no fit you haha nonono! . thats all I needed......that was it. I willing answered her with : " no.....its not for me." smiled with courage and happiness not sadness and kindly in my head finally spoke these words to myself: "so long...goodbye...i must leave you behind now" referring to all of my 230 pounds n five foot three old me. with 6 days left til surgery I have parted ways with that 18 years of extra weight extras and extras of 18 years of tears heartache and sadness 18 years of being buried under this rubble of my skin... today I said bye and so long........
  19. Ok...I think I am tired of trying to figure out stuff to eat and making the wrong choices and getting bored. Being that it is this long since I have been banded (09-05) would it be weird to go on a liquid diet? Like shakes...not Slim-Fast (yuck) but the other protein shakes. I need something different. It seems the other stuff isn't filling me up and I don't want a fill right now because I am filled just enough that I am not miserable. And it seems to me that it might be a little easier for me since I won't have to make a decision on what to eat but just what flavor to mix!! Does this make any sense to anyone? I thought about trying this for a few weeks to see how I do with it.
  20. NJ is close-yes it would be great to chat with you. I will be banded a few weeks before you so I will let you know how it goes! When do you start your pre-op liquid diet??I am on it right now and let me tell you--it is much harder than I imagined:( But it will all be worth it in the end! I am so excited:)
  21. I had my surgery in late june im down 45 pounds but have hit a plattue Igot back on track only having 3 meals a day and no snacking and ive been hitting the gym 3/4 times a week in the first week since my adjustment I still havent lost any weight and im feeling very sad and discouraged can anyone give me any advice on what to do
  22. Took two weeks off and I have a desk job. Can't imagine doing that kind of work one week post op, but then again, I'm probably a lot older than you.
  23. Hopefully your doc's scheduler can help move you up a week or two! I would definitely ask for an earlier date!
  24. Gastric bypass patients get stuck, also. So don't let that be a deciding factor for you! Go to the info seminar and listen. Talk it over with your surgeon. Pick a surgeon who does all three procedures. Hear what he or she recommends and why. Read on all the forums around about the different types of WLS. I chose the band because I mainly needed portion control, and it seemed far less drastic than gastric bypass. Although the qualifications for both were the same, bypass just seemed too extreme for someone in my medical condition. I was a lower BMI, I was not yet diabetic, but heading that way. I just didn't think the risk of Vitamin deficiencies/malabsorption/malnutrition was worth the benefits I'd get from bypass. I can't speak intellectually about the sleeve other than to say that most of the risk of it is immediately pre-op. The risk of a leak on the staple line is significant, but it seems that if you come through that period, then further complications are very rare. Best wishes on your decision!
