Best way to thin out egg salad?
Catherine707 replied to ctsleeve's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
How about milk? I would also suggest "fortifying" greek yogurt with flavorless protein powder (I like the GNC Whey protein) and adding a bit of milk to thin it out. The Dannon Orange Dream yogurt tastes wonderful and doesn't have any fruit chunks in it to upset your new stomach. It has over 30 grams of protein when you add the yogurt and the protein powder! Three months post surgery and my breakfast is either a protein shake or the fortified yogurt everyday - I start the day with a protein "punch" and my day seems to go much better! -
Five Years Post Op N Gaining Weight
ShapeShifter replied to NOLA Lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The key word here is depression. Please see a doctor and therapist about your depression. I know how it can feel like an identity crisis when you are no longer able to do the job you once felt defined you. But a job is not who you are. The circumstances suck, but the situation is not about you, it is about male insecurity. You need to take care of YOU, and move forward. I've read about a five day pouch test, and yogurt day... to kind of cleanse your sleeve, so to speak, and kick the carb addiction, so that you can return to the way you were eating when you lost your weight in the beginning. Lots of Water and Protein first, then veggies, then fruit. You can do this! You already have. You are stronger than you think you are, and that was not the last job you will have and love. You will find a new place to shine. Just remember who you are, put on your warrior outfit, and get back out there! -
I try to keep my diet fairy low carb (between 50 and 100g per day) and I've found some packaged foods I really like that help me with this. Here they are... I figured we've all got something in our back pocket that we rely on, and we should share it with eachother! Emerald Cocoa Roasted Almonds and Cinnamon Roasted Almonds- these are sweet but not too sweet, low in carbs and nuts are always a Protein packed good choice for people doing low carb diets. Just The cheese White Cheddar Snacks- It's true, it's just cheese. It's baked into crispy, salty little rounds and it's great for when you're craving chips or other salty snacks. Very crunchy, very yummy, the packs I have are 1g carbs, 5g protein. Joseph's Flax & Oat lavash breads- these are thin but still feel bread-y (not gluey or like crackers). They're a good size (you use 1/2 of a lavash as a serving- the whole lavash is bigger than the size of a piece of paper) and only 7g of carbs (3g Fiber, so 4g net carbs) each, with 5g of protein. Joseph's also makes a wrap bread with similar nutritional stats but I like the lavash better. sugar-free syrups- I have tried both Torani and DaVinco flavors and like Torani better, but both are good for sweetening up or mixing up your Protein drinks and greek yogurts without adding any sugar. PB2 powdered Peanut Butter- I know this one sounds weird, but I used to put real peanut butter in my smoothies until I got some of this. Fewer calories and carbs than regular peanut butter because there's no sugar added. Still adds that yummy peanut butter taste, and also adds protein. They say you can mix it with any liquid to make it into regular penut butter but I haven't tried that yet

Fruit/veggies- do you eat them?
Babbs replied to gilit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started eating cooked veggies around 2 months out. I only just recently started eating fruit, and when I do, I stick to the lower sugar fruit (berries). I will mix them into my yogurt, or just have a handful for a snack. As far as veggies, I probably only eat a couple bites because I follow the Protein first then veggie rule. Most of the time I'm too full from the protein to have too many veggies. I'm trying to incorporate more veggies in salads and Snacks to get more in. -
Side sleeping again!!!
synicalchick commented on synicalchick's blog entry in Synicalchick's 336 lb journal
I feel great today. Finally turned that corner. Yinfec is under control & I can totally sleep on my side now! Thursday I went to bed (the 1st night I was able to sleep on my side) and I woke up 14 hours later! I needed it. We have been blessed with BEAUTIFUL GORGEOUS weather today. I'm sitting here at my computer, ate my prune yogurt, drinking my coffee, have the patio door open, birds are chirping, my windchimes are chiming, the smell of burning sage is in the air and all is right with the world. I may even be able to talk DH into walking at the zoo today. Nasvhille has a really beautiful zoo and I have a membership. I hope no one has been discouraged by my whiny post, I just wanted to be as honest as factual as possible because I like to know what's up before hand. Now that I'm on the other side of things, I know I've done the right thing and I'm really excited about my future. I have a normal to small sized husband, he married me at almost my top weight, so I'm excited to see where this takes our relationship as we are able to do more outdoor activites together. -

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Looking for a buddy....
Mjv013 replied to dooney's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I feel so much better. My incisions themselves dont bother me. Its just the incisions in the muscle. I really wasnt able to get a lot of liquids down for about 3 days. About day 3 I could actually have strained cream soups and yogurt and juice. Im still on liquids but the cream soups are great. Today I can actually distinguish between hunger and gas :wink2: Im now starting to actually get hungry. I still cant get down 64oz of water a day but I can get down at least 32 to 44oz. Im so afraid to drink to much water at one time. Im not sure how that would affect my "pouch". I also had a hernia repaired at the same time so I kinda had a 2 for 1!! Keep resting. You'll notice every morning you feel better. I always amazed at our bodies and how fast we can heal!!! We will be at a year banded before you know it!!! -
Am I the only one with Diarrhea?
Clementine Sky replied to EclecticWonder's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I unfortunately expereinced that for about three and a half weeks. I have PCOS and I think mine was due to hormonal flucuation issues. The problems began on day 1 of my first TOM post surgery and persisted up until the second TOM. I tried variations in my diet and nothing really alleviated the problem. I didn't come close to meeting my Protein and Water goals during that time and could not tolerate any Vitamins, but the priority really shifted to just finding foods I could eat without causing huge stomach upset. Anything with too much liquid caused a problem. I'd wake up three to four times a night to go to the bathroom, and during the day had to run there after I ate or drank anything. I was really worried about becoming severely dehydrated. I began drinking Pedialyte (which tastes vile) during the week when it was the worst. I sipped Gatorade, too. It's not a very healthy drink if you're not a serious athlete completing a workout, but at the time it was what my body was receptive to having and it helped me to get some calories and electrolytes in. For me eating fruit with a higher water content, like watermelon, was a way of getting some hydration in along with actual food. I stopped with the Protein shakes and started having more soft solids like mashed potatoes mixed with green Beans. I wasn't getting in that many calories or fat a day and my weight loss definitely stalled, but that was a secondary issue. My stomach problems were dominating my life for a while, but I felt confident they would eventually subside and they did. I can eat normally now. Hallelujah! I don't have ready to drink protein shakes anymore, but I make smoothies using plain Greek or Bulgarian yogurt, a scoop of Protein powder, a bit of berries, and some kale every morning for Breakfast to get me started. I think the Probiotics from the yogurt and from the supplement I take helps soothe my stomach. -

I'm home today! I feel partially human, but the gas is kicking my tushie!! One thing for sure, broth and popsicles are my BEST FRIEND!! I'm starving though, well until I eat a popsicle then I am full for about 10 minutes..lol then I'm hungry all over again. When should I start on stage 2 diet? I would hurt someone for some yogurt..lol but I'm still sore and I do not want to push it at all... I guess just talking about it makes me feel better and makes me not want to screw it up, so I am going to stick to the clear liquid diet for at least another day until the soreness goes away. -
Hey guys, Thanks for the support it means a lot. I'm feeling a bit better this morning and I have bean and artichoke soup for lunch, that soup always fills me up right away so I should be fine. I also found these little yogurts that are suppose to help suppress your appetite for 4 hours. (ought to get a good 2 hours a least from them!) Plus I slept in until 11:00am today so I missed breakfast! I drank a yogurt (they have these nice start up ones that are orange and Fiber and some other energy ones that have pineapple and ginseng and fiber) Portuguese are crazy for yogurts so at least I have that. FunnyDuddies: hehe thats actually not a bad idea. I should do what PhotoNut did and photo shop one of my photos to see myself thin.

It's hard to fathom right now, but that feeling of hunger, and things tasting good AND going down easily comes back. You need to find something chock full of protein that you can tolerate though. 7 weeks isn't very far out, and at that time I got most of my protein from shakes. Have you tried the Premier Protein shakes. I couldn't do the ones that the NUT wanted me drinking, but those I could tolerate. Also, try googling eggfaces baked ricotta. Cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese (softer), hummus (I lived on that!)... these were all easy for me to eat. Keep in mind though, back then, I did good to get 1 ounce, let alone the 3 ounces or 1/4c my NUT suggested. Keep sipping water, and keep trying out things to find what goes down easiest right now. Steak, chicken, and other dense proteins will come in time. Isopure also makes protein mixes that go in water and taste more like flavored water (kinda) than the milky ones, that's also an option as so many find themselves lactose intolerant for a few months (usually not permanently)

I've had shrimp, squash/zucchini (in a grill pack..by far the best thing so far), Northern Beans, baked beans, refried beans, avocado, green beans, a little scrambles egg, lasagna but no noodles I just had sauce for the most part, Greek yogurt, and some thinly shaved turkey and ham from a deli. How many cups of food ? Confused :(
line-dancer replied to Birdie1973's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do 1 c 3 times a day and if I need a snack I track everything and stay within my calories . If you can eat more then 1 c per meal you need a fill...I am satisfied all day but I plan for head hunger with good snacks yogurt, apple, one serving of crackers but still stay within my caloiers for the day. I think the band is magic, for the first time in my life I am not hungry all the time, food doenst call me, and I can eat like a normal person. If you do the work your band is a great friend -
No, it's not painful. It's almost like a real dull heartburn sensation, but not really LIKE heartburn. Hard to describe I guess. I see we were banded on the same day!! Are you still on clear liquids? I'm sick of broth, and juice!! They told me I could add drinkable yogurt yesterday, and that was a "little" better. Still doesn't compare to REAL FOOD. LOL:hungry: Donna

My pre-op was only liquids for 2 weeks before, protien shakes, yogurt, creemed soups, sugar free puddings. wasn't to bad to stick with. i did 3 weeks because i was hoping to have my surgery a week earlier but didn't happen, anyway lost 20lbs before surgery.

What do you eat for breakfast?
califmomto4 replied to futuremrsparker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually have yogurt. Maybe a mini Babybel? I think you could eat anything if its not " breakfast food" if chicken or shrimp for breakfast sounds good to you do that. I bought some of the Quest Protein bars because everyone was raving about them. I had to track them down. I tried apple pie... Couldn't do it. The texture is like taffy...I don't know its just weird. Overly processed and it kinda grosses me out -
I cant either, six years on. Really cold stuff sets off painful cramps for me. I dont eat ice cream either and if I fancy a yogurt, I get it out of the fridge and leave it sit for half an hour to warm up. If I eat canned fruit that's been in the fridge, I nuke it for a few seconds to warm it up a bit. Cold stuff and my lapband do not get along, its something you adjust to. I never liked ice cream much anyhow, so its no big deal to me.

What are your food stages?
JamieLogical replied to Riz2006's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

This is really great to read from someone who is just starting their journey. I was banded on Monday and today I've started to worry I'm already doing it wrong - I'm meant to be on liquids and I made myself a milky smoothie with a yogurt and banana, in my head I've messed up already :/ Anyway congratulations on your success and thanks for sharing! -
11 months out & I hate food!
catwoman7 replied to SAD HATTER's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
not phases, but I have days like that. The last couple of days all I've wanted to eat are Protein shakes and yogurt. -
I would ask my doctors office for a guideline to follow. Weight loss after surgery is hit or miss because this time is for healing. You also retain a fair bit of Water from the surgery. I would follow the guidelines given by your doctor because its odd that you are 3 days out from surgery and looking for yogurt already. Mostly everyone is on Clear Liquids and other liquids for the first one or two weeks after surgery.
-
I was able to go on full liquids the day I came home from the hospital (the day after surgery) which included yogurt, pudding, cottage cheese, and scrambled eggs. I just took it really slow and made sure that I chewed it (even the yogurt) I did fine and was eating regular foods 1 week post op (with the Dr.'s ok). I haven't had any trouble since and had my first fill today so I am on liquids today, soft foods tomorrow and regular food on Saturday. I would check with your doctor, though, for what he recommends. I know that compared to a lot of post op diets mine is pretty relaxed!

Bored With The Same Food...

BBQ chicken sounds good...can't have cheese, yogurt, or ranch...thanks! Ill take all the ideas I can get! -
I can totally feel you , I was sleeved Nov 13 , 2012 and felt exactly the same way ,,, what works better for me is that I bought the whey Protein Powder at GNC , vanilla flavor ( The red one ) and I mix 1/2 banana & 3 strawberries with 6 oz Skim milk and 1 scoop of the powder Protein in the blender, or buy the Frozen berries with pieces of yogurt ( Yoplain ) and Skim milk or Water and the protein powder . If you are stil pre op , check with your doctor but if your post op , you should be okay.

Yum! It tastes fantastic! I have tried the raspberry, peach and strawberry banana so far. I can't stand any of the greek yogurts as they all taste too sour. This feels like a desert to me instead of yet another source of Protein. Thanks to whoever I saw mention it earlier in the week. _/\_ 6 ounces 60 calories 1.5g fat 3g sugar 8g protein
