    24-36 inches?!

The weather report this morning was possibly 10 inches of snow in the city. I was out and about much of the day and around 5ish, I wandered into the grocery store for a couple of things and it looked like they were giving away the food. Lines were out the door and I knew it had to be related to the weather so I picked up my tuna and salad fixings and went home to see what was going on. Blizzard warning and 24-36 inches of snow expected from Central Jersey on East. My admin called our group to tell us the Senior Director has said that we should work from home tomorrow and Tuesday. I'm figuring I'll be working from home on Wednesday as well if this is as bad as they are touting. I know the weather folk can be dramatic but I have a feeling this is going to be a real pain in the neck. For those in the path of this storm, stay warm and stay safe.
  2. You are losing on average over 7 lbs a month. I think maybe your expectations are too high. Anything over 1 lb a week is considered good. I know we all want to lose 5 lbs a week, but for most people it aint going to happen. If you are losing steadily, just stick with it and eventually you will be where you want to be. Im impatient too. I think 10 lbs gone is nadda, and then I sit back and count the weeks it will take to lose 10 lbs and step back and say whoa!!! Every 10 lbs to me is a new goal, and each time I pass a new 0 mark, I Celebrate. 23 lbs in 3 months is doing good. Dont get discouraged, just pat yourself on the back. I looked at tickers and dates of surgerys here for a long time before my surgery and realized it would take me over a year to get into the 120s where I want to be. Hard to wait I know, but we will get there.
  3. Hate to be the bearer of bad new...but I have been on maintenance for almost 8 months (surgery was 9/17/10 - goal in early Feb 11) and I still am cold most of the time. Even living in sunny CA suffer from chills all the time. Now I carry a jacket in my trunk for those times when a restaurant is too cold or I am stuck. Suggestion - socks and fleece. Face it, better thin and cold than sweaty and obese. No regrets, I love my sleeve.

hardest workout you have done post op

OMG, you are killing me! I don't even feel worthy of posting to this thread...I'm a light weight....not really, still really heavy and can't exercise like that! Plus, I'm an old lady But I am so impressed with you! Anyway, I do 30 minutes ski machine, 20 min stair climber, 10 min arms (bowflex) and I'm up to 40 crunches. I was impressed with that until I read what the rest of you are doing. Great job everyone!

    Letty's journey post-op

Oh my time goes by so fast! 5 months ago I had my sleeve surgery 8/10/2015 and I don't regret it one bit. It's been the best thing I have done for me. It's a commitment and I knew since I had my surgery that the sleeve was only a tool and I have to put my effort to make it work. Weigh in today is 187 lbs and wearing a size14 in jeans and size large blouse compared to size 20-22 in pants and 2xl blouses. I've lost a total of 66 lbs so far! I have another 37 lbs and if it takes another 5 to 7 months to get there I will be ok.
  6. I said to myself the other day, I want to go rollerblading again. Now, I have not done this is probably 10+ years. So today it was nice out, not to hot, not to cold. So I said what the hell. I put on my rollerblades, stood up, a bit shaky. And went out, went around the parking lot a bunch of times, just to get back into it. Then decided to go down the street. And I kept going, before I knew it I was about 3 miles away from my apartment! At this point my ankles were starting to hurt a bit, so I turned around. So in total I went 6 miles!! I am quite happy with that. When I got home my ankles were killing me, but after having them off for a few minutes they felt fine again. If I continue doing this, I may buy a new pair, maybe they make them a bit more comfortable now, after all I've had this pair for like 15 years or so. But I think today was a good day!
  7. Dr. Alvarez was $8700 everything included minus the flight. My sleeve buddy had her hernia repaired during surgery, and I know someone else who needed ther gall bladder out and he did it all at the same time. The idea of going to Mexico scared me to death at first, but one of my best friends (screen ID CLK) did it 2 years ago, and well look at her before and afters and her statements about quality of life, and that about sums it up. My only regret was not doing this sooner. I was quoted stateside nothing less thatn $30k. I saved and got a partial loan to pay for the $8700 with Dr. Alvarez. Worth every cent. As for the diet, it's not so much how different is it from other docs (they all vary from doc to doc) it's that doctor Alvarez has had so many patients he's got data to support his decisions. He finds the highest risk for a leak or tare is the first 10 to 14 days post op, so he is very strict about being on a liquid diet for 2 full weeks. No physical activity for at least 15 days to keep infection to a minimum including no baths or lotions, and after two weeks there is a transition to soft foods. He explains that the fast majority of patents who are ok the first few days then after a week or so get sick are because they started eating solid foods to quickly. I seen some amerian docs let people transition after one week, Dr. Alvarez said absolutely not, the stomach needs at least 2 to 3 weeks of liquids and soft foods to heal and get swelling down. And when you got thousands of patients to collect data from, he definitly knows what he's talking about. If you have not seen or read Dr. Alvarez's book from Endobariatric PLEASE READ IT!!! I read after surgery, and I really wish I had read it before. It is so straight forward and breaks down EVERYTHING. I think it should be a standard for ALL VSG PATIENTS!!!
  8. I have only had my band 10 days. I have a 10cc Band which was filled 2cc the day of surgery. The first 4 days, while I was still swollen, were sweet because I had NO hunger. Now I am getting pretty hungry, but I am still on the liquids. Saw my Dr. today for the first time since surgery. He says 1 more week of liquids and come back and see him in three weeks. I see him again 7/30........sure hope I am getting another fill then!!

    New Here!

I am also a fellow Texan, but I have not heard of this Dr. I used Dr. Spivak and loved him. My surgery was done at Herman Hospital and I was treated like I was the only patient there that day. It was great. Surgery was done at about 10:00 in the morning and my husband and I drove up in the driveway at 5:30 that afternoon. And I live exactly one hour from Houston. Recovery was easy, but I had 2 Csections to compare this to, so it was really easy for me. I hope recovery will be as easy for you. Had mine on Wednesday, went WalMart shopping on Friday, grocery shopping on Saturday and went back to work on Monday. They barely new I was gone from work and most of the people had no idea I even had the surgery until the first 50# came off and people got curious.

    6 months out 87lbs gone...I'm stuck

I'm am almost exactly 6 months out, I was sleeved Oct 16th 2012. I got stuck about a month ago, I upped work out and intensity and I cut back my food intake a bit and started paying super close attention to my intake again. It started back up, however what I have noticed is that I'll lose 5-7 pounds and then sit at that weight for a week to 10 day nd then ill drop a bunch another 5 pounds. So it's still coming off, it's just a bit diff now, I'm ok with it as long as it keeps coming off. Good luck and don't give up.

    NWWLS dr watkins

I would try not to pack it in or on at this point. I went to Dr. Michaelson and at the consult he asked that I loose 10 lb. My BMI was at 48. I had my case of loosing 8 lb and then mother's day came and I slipped. I kept up the grazing and last meal syndrome until Tues. before my surgery. I went in on the 17th and was banded. They do weigh you and I was down 5 lb. He told of one lady he asked to loose 20 and she gained 20. He sent her home and told her to come back when she was serious. OUCH. I have heard that depending on your size, 30 lb to loose prior is not unusual. I think they said if you are male, BMI over 50, and have any high BP or Diabetes you need to loose 10 lb for each one prior to surgery. THey offered me the Medifast shakes at cost ($38/case) to get it off quick. 5 shakes and a light meal a day. Personally, I think he made it 10 after he found out my addiction to regular Pepsi! It is worht it though. I am down 7 lb since Thursday's surgery and I am not in too much pain. Check out the board for WA, there are several of us at NWWLS and St. Francis. Lots to read about.

    Bikes

I have a Trek hybrid (like a cross between mountain bike and road bike). I have had it for maybe 10 years and I love it. I am not sure what the weight capacity is, but I would be very surprised if it would be a problem for you. It has the thicker tires and also a wide, comfy seat. While it wasn't the most expensive bike in the world (purchased at a good local bike store), if I had to do it over again, I would go to the bike stores to see what I liked best and then search Craigslist. The exact bike I bought was commonly seen on Craigslist for 1/4 of what we paid new, and in like new condition. A lot of people buy bikes and never use them and so sell them when they want to regain room in the garage, or when it is time to move. The same goes for bike accessories like vehicle racks. Now that the weather is good, it is a great time to ride. I hope you can find a comfy bike!

    Tricks/Tips foe Nausea?

You know, at first, my "hunger pains" felt a lot like nausea. It came SO fast, and it took about 10 minutes to go away after I started eating. Try eating and see if it helps. Also, don't take meds on an empty stomach. Take meds, and eat immediately after.

    1 month post op

I'm not quite a month post-op, but I'll try to answer your vitamin question. At my clinic, they recommend 2 Flintstomes complete chewables, D3, calcium citrate. (I take 3 Bariatric Advantage chewables a day) , B12 sublingual and B-complex or B-50 (I open the capsule and mix with unsweetened applesauce). Molly 10/2/13
  18. Well and I am to the point where I am losing inches instead of lbs. I got into size 12 in December, size 10 in March and now close to July I am getting ready to drop down to size 8. My weight is about the same but my skin is firm and not saggy. SO I guess I am happy where I am now. I eat 1200 calories a day and sometimes cheat a little but I make it up by walking. My BMI is around 26 so life is good. I have no thyroid and almost ready for AARP membership LOL

    Chewable and Liquid Vitamins

I am having my surgery on Friday this week! But I did buy some Bariatric chewables from my local Walgreens and they are $27! They are the only brand of Bariatrics that Walgreen carries in the store. I also found that GNC has a sublingual B12 for about $10 that I'll buy when I get home.
  20. If the noodles were covered in sauce, they probably just slid right through your anamosis (especially since you waited 15 minutes)... and then the meatballs went into a (probably) empty pouch. This is why I eat for no more than 10 minutes, then stop. The stomach can empty oh so fast with some foods. Since you are going plant-based, let me recommend bean noodles for pasta. They are basically all protein and fiber. Shoot, even meat-based keto dieters can probably eat them! Be prepared to get full on a much smaller portion. Here is one for sale (I get mine at my grocery store). There is the nut. info on down the page. https://thrivemarket.com/explore-cuisine-organic-black-bean-pasta-spaghetti-shape?utm_source=google&utm_medium=pla&ccode=FIRST3&ccode_force=1&utm_medium=pla&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Shopping_Food_Beverages&utm_content=854183006003&utm_term=google-pla_na&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6uCJ4qvt1gIVAVqGCh3kbwMWEAQYASABEgIaK_D_BwE
  21. Yes, I will let you all know what the other doctors say once I find them. lol. BTW, Congrats on losing 10 pounds already.
  22. So today, I stopped by McDonalds to get my daughter something to eat. I was banded on July 3rd and have been having my doubts about the surgery. Doubts began when I couldn't imagine the "gas" pain ever going away. And today, up until my bad experience. Since my surgery a week and a half ago, I have lost 10-13 pounds, it fluctuates. I get discouraged because in my mind, I should be losing a pound a day (due to the low amount of calories I eat a day)but that is not happening. I felt like the surgery wasn't working. The gas pains have subsided and I feel basically 100%. So...I tried to eat not one but TWO of my daughters chicken McNuggets, quickly may I add. And guess what happened. I proved myself WRONG. The surgery HAS worked. I threw the nuggets up IMMEDIATELY! Needless to say, I am now a believer again and will be back on my post surgery diet ASAP! For all of you who have been recently banded, I have experimented for you and have tested the boundaries. DO NOT EAT ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT YOU ARE INSTRUCTED TO EAT! I guess the weight will come off once my body has healed?

Sleeve to Bypass due to REGAIN

Gosh we’re so much alike. I read your other post about the fear. I’m going in this morning for my revision VSG to bypass. I was fearless for my sleeve but wide awake worrying right now. I too am worried that I’ll only lose 10-20 pounds.
