  1. I just had my second surgery to revise the tubing. First surgery, 8 wks ago Dr. simply repositioned tubing as my intestine flipped over the tubing. Pain came back last week and again I had surgery 2 days ago this time to shorten the tubing. I am still very sore but I am wondering if my intestines are bruised or is / did the shortened tubing find it's way back to my intestines? The Dr removed 6-8 inches of tubing. I have not been very successful with weight loss and wonder if this is partially to blame. However, I did find out I only had 4.2 cc's in my band when I was told by a nurse 10 months ago I had 7cc's. I go for my follow up next tuesday and getting more fill as I can and have been able to eat pretty much what ever I want. I dont ever get the "satisified" full sensation I tought ZI would. So far this has been just anohter failed diet. I am hoping that more fill will do the trick ??

Sorry folks and the TGIF waiter.

I had a port replacement on Wednesday... Simple and under local anaesthetic, I'd already had one revision, but it was unsuccessful. My port was really deep in my fat and flipped sideways, he turned it, but left it deep. Still terrible. In the end I consulted another surgeon, who x rayed me and we could both see that the cuff had come away from the port and the tubing was kinked and leaking... I now have a shiny new port and 4mls in my band, which has made me very tight! Hx

    Been Awhile..Super PO'D!!!!!

I failed to mention that the surgeon I am going to now has the lap-band himself. He had the VG had a prolapse and had to have a revision with an AP about a year ago. So he has personal experience with both bands, and he tells me that recent research as well as personal experience that with the AP he is not as hungry. Something about they believe that the width and positioning of the AP band rests on a nerve that sends the signal to ur brain that ur full, therefore lowering ur appetite. I'm not sure if there is a difference in cost, the entire procedure was covered by my insurance so I'm not exactly sure what was billed for. I just feel like I was mislead. I'm in the medical profession, and like most bandsters I thoroughly researched before I had this done. I just have a bad taste in my mouth that my original surgeon didn't mention it to me. The only thing he said prior was that there were two size bands and he wouldn't be able to tell which one he was going to use until during the surgery. He NEVER mentioned that he was going to use the previous generation of band:huh2:

    Cant Decide

It definitely is something to think about. I, too, only(?) had 75 pounds to lose. I've lost fifty in 8 months. I know I couldn't have done it by myself... well, I could, but then I always just gained back more! I'm beginning to have some problems and complications now that make me wish I'd taken a closer look at the sleeve. I'm thinking very seriously about revision surgery if insurance will cover it.

    1 day post op

I had surgery late Monday afternoon and still haven’t passed gas. I do seem to burp a little after drinking water. Having a really hard to drinking my fluids. I didn’t realize this surgery would be so painful. The side where they removed my port and lap band hurts so bad. I keep questioning why I did this to myself lol. jgat how are you doing on fluids ? HW 367 SW 346 Revision from band to gastric bypass RNY on 11/6/17

    first one to post...

I did pretty well with my band (the first year), since then its given me nothing but problems. I'm now to the point everything I eat gets stuck in my throat, I end up sneezing, and coughing and then throwing up (most solids). I know we aren't supposed to drink with our meals but the only way I can get my food (even mushies) to go down is to drink a soda with my food - it expands my pouch enough for the food to go down. It is the lesser of the two evils. My esophogus has stopped working and I have horrible gerd (which the soda doesn't help) - but at least I can eat something that way. I can't wait to have it removed and get on with my life. I was lucky for insurance to pay for mine - but am now trying to come up with all of the co-pays for the hosptail and my doctor. Are you going to get a revision to band?

    So Confused!

Well I have not had the surgery and can tell you as far as the lap band is concerned a lot of doctors are not doing them as much because of the complications involved if you look online here you will see soooooooo many people being revised...and most of them being revised to the sleeve..I have people I know that had gastric bypass and from what I know there is more malabsorption involve.. good luck on what you decide....the question you need to ask yourself is do you think you can do this on your own if so give yourself a year to lose the weight...Good luck

    I Need Help Asap!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know beachbum- i can relate on some level- my surgeon placed my port entirely too low and actually put it in my left breast- he usually puts them high on the chest, next to the clavicle- Apparently when I lay perfectly flat my top comes forward and he actually thought he was placing it right but didn't! So I had to have port revision surgery. I TOO was very reluctant and very scared- but my dr. was honest with me and admitted his mistake and did my revision free of charge. I am now doing fine. So I can understand you going with her on the second surgery. I am so glad things went well for you! And yes, I was STARVING after day 3- I actually started on really well blended soups like cream of potato etc. (though you should follow your dr's guidelines). At a week out my Dr. thankfully moved me on up to mushies, so hang in there! Try and get your protein in and your water- that will help with some fullness. Good luck!

    I'm a Misfit Amongst Misfits

I have been reading other people's blogs and am happy for every single one of you who have posted pictures of you rafting, hiking or cycling yourselves to a new you. I'm also incredibly jealous because that will never be me. The spirit is more than willing, but the body just isn't able. For sure I'm going to be able to do more things than I have been able in years but my success will be more moderate: I will be able to walk to the store two days in a row. I will be able to walk two days in a row. What I find frustrating is the people at the clinic don't seem to get it. I appear to be a misfit among the misfits of society. I keep being assured that my life will change so much, which I don't doubt, but I wonder if they have any clue of what my life is like? Will the band magically let me hold a pencil long enough to write a letter? Will I be able to play my violin or harp again? The psych lady I met yesterday was all impressed how I seemed to know my body much better than the average person and that learning the rules of the band would be a breeze for me. The truth is that for years, one small lapse in thought and I've popped something in my mouth that will lead to hours of gut wrenching pain or my eyes swelling shut. Push myself too hard and I'm bedridden for days. She seemed really nice and wanting to help while we chatted for our 35 minute hour, but she specialises in anorexia, bulemia and overeating... I wonder if she knows much about people who've grown old before their time. Then again, it was the first session... I'm hoping that a few more sessions will get us all on the same page. I'm really looking forward to working with the chiropractor they have on staff. Ontario's major failing in health care is that if it can't find something specifically wrong, it won't fix it or expend the energy to see what can be done for you. When one of the foremost rhumatologists in Toronto tells you "wow, your life must suck, but there's nothing I can do about it" you tend to lose heart. I've not been able to afford private physiotherapy, massage therapy or the chiropractic care I probably could use, so I've gone without. I didn't want to risk getting addicted to a therapy I couldn't do long term. How dumb is that? So apparently for the next year or so I'm being offered unlimited access to this guy. After me, they may want to revise that policy. Usually I'm not so much of a whiner... I promise I'll be more upbeat next time. In the meantime, keep posting the canoeing pictures. Even though I can't do it myself, that doesn't mean I don't like seeing others have fun.

I just wanna wake up skinny!

I sent you a PM. Had the sleeve a little over 2 years ago. Fell back into old habits, now i can eat anything and everything just like before. You have to have discipline with either one. Im #refat as i call it. Lost 98, gained back 70+. (I was going through a divorce anf im an emotional eater.) Trying to see if i can get a revision to bypass. UGH...... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  12. I missed the revision part! That's probably the price difference

    too slow

I had my band to sleeve revision on 10/1 and am down 10 pounds so I am right there with you. I'm getting 50+ of protein and 64+ of water and working out (hiking or biking) at least 30 minutes every day. I know it is slow but as long as my weight continues to go down I am trying not to worry about it. It will have to come off eventually eating 800 calories a day right?

    Odds of long-term success

I completely and totally understand the frustrations you are experiencing. I'm so sorry you are going through this. When a band goes bad it affects every single area of your life. If you are having major band problems I wouldn't wait long to have it removed. I waited too long and have permanent problems because of it. If you slip and an unfill doesn't do the trick they won't be able to do a revision in one surgery, two surgeries is much more expensive. If you erode... again, two surgeries. Then the weight gain while you wait for surgery #2 for revision. If you are self pay don't wait, get it done as soon as financially possible.
  15. Hello, I'm due for my sleeve on 10/11 as well check in time for me is 6:00 am, and surgery is scheduled for 7:25~ I'm excited and scared at the same time, I keep waiting for the phone to ring and the doctors office saying "oh sorry we have to reschedule" this is surgery date number 4 for me, and I'm hoping it sticks. I started my pre-op diet on 10/1 first 7 days I did great but not so great on day 8 not sure what came over me but I couldn't stop eating, back at it on day 9 and today- I was banded in May 08 and had it removed in Dec 09 one of the hardest days of my life, I had an erosion and my than doctor told me there was nothing he could do to help me keep the weight off. so since Dec 09 I gained back the 70 pounds I had lost with the band, its been a living nightmare to say the least In Feb I contacted my doctor who put me in contact with a new doctor who has done revisions from Band to sleeve and he says he can do it I have an 18% higher rate of complicatoins due to all of my scar tissue but i'm willing to take the chance I want my life back. I have avoided telling anyone other than my 27 year old daughter, everyone knew I had the band and it was horrible the judgement from people made it really hard to be happy about my new healthy life- of course they all said I would fail.,,, ( Best of luck to all October sleevers- can't wait to read how everyone is doing.
  16. Hi everyone, it's been a long while since I've been on here. I've just been going along and BOOM. No restriction and pain. Constant, nagging left upper quadrant pain. I live in SK and nobody around here knows anything about the band of course, so I'm kinda screwed. I had an upper GI series done and the report makes no sense, Dr. Yau needs the films. So hopefully this week it will all be sorted and I'll probably have to go back to TO and have a revision. I was always a "it'll never happen to me" kinda girl, apparently it CAN. And I'm scared ****less. Has anyone else had a slip and what kind of symptoms did you have? I can eat, drink, no reflux, no restriction whatsoever and I just have constant pain. The worst part about all this is that I'm so far away from TO. Nobody around here knows anything about it, I work for surgeons here in S'toon, we've had a couple of lap band pts come through here with complications, the only thing they know how to do is remove it. I'm so scared that something is going to happen in the meantime while I wait for surgery (or whatever else that can be done, I was told to remove 2 cc and leave the rest) and they'll just remove my band completely. YARGH. Just had to vent.
  17. This kinda reminds m of my experience. I am now in the process of lapband to sleeve revision. I had to have the psych visit for my band and during my eval my moms calls and tells me she is at the hospital with "brian". Which is my sons name...oh and my cousin. Well i thought she meant my son. And was like omg, is he ok, what happened..and was crying. Then my mom realizes my reaction and tells me it was my cousin. I didn't jump up turn furniture over or run in traffic...and the doc tells me that i overrracted?!?!? Ummm i thought my kid just got hit by a car?? He didn't hold up my progress but told me i needed o get with my pcp for meds and he never followed up. I don't think one person who meets you for an hour should have that much power!!!

    New to the forum

Hi I received my lapband 12/07 and I mainly eat pureed foods sometimes very soft foods. In the morning its coffee and yogurt or protein drink. Lunch I puree soups or make up mashed potatoes with cream of chicken soup or gravy with meat that is pureed. I still have a hard time with meat. sometimes I can have crackers. I have lost 45 lbs so far. Don't give up go for softer foods. Sometimes my meal is a smoothie or a shake. I even had to go in to get revised in Feb because I got the flu and it slipped which caused me not to hold anything down, not even liquids. So don't give up.
  22. Hi Hope to Resolve Your story sounds a lot like mine. Long story short--12 year old lap band slipped, caused hiatal hernia, constant sliming with no fill in it, etc. Had it taken out and revised to bypass in one surgery. My only regret was I wasted 12 years futzing around with the band. Your concerns about vitamins are valid, but easily addressed with multivitamins and calcium supplements. Hair loss is likely to occur with both the sleeve and bypass but is not as terrible as say chemotherapy--usually only YOU notice it, and it will grow back. Dumping is totally avoidable by not eating sugary or fatty foods, and I consider it a plus since it makes it easier to avoid potential trigger foods for fear of dumping! One definite plus is my a1c and glucose are now totally normal, and that's without ANY metformin at all! I was on 1000 mg a day and now take none. I think the bypass has better statistics for resolving diabetes than the sleeve. Whatever you decide, good luck, and keep us posted!

    Apollo Overstitch in Tijuana?

I assume this is what is known as the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty for those who have it as a primary WLS and not revision. I can only give a perspective from a recovery point of view and with an Australian slant as practices may be different elsewhere. There is generally no overnight stay in hospital in Australia. My doctors instructions include: two weeks pre op diet, one day clear pre op. On day of procedure and day following - no fluids/foods instead have iv infusions. Three day clear liquids, three weeks free liquids, one week puree and one week soft. Then typical diet with one cup volume while losing weight with focus on proteins and veges. Portions to increase or snacks when in maintenance mode. Prior to procedure I was required to take nexium for one week and then three weeks following to lower stomach acid. Took a fairly strong anti-nausea tablet before procedure, and then two different types of anti nausea meds for three days after. I was fortunate, I only had some stomach cramps for up to three days. Recovery has been great with the ESG, a lot of people are back at work within days.

    Apollo Overstitch in Tijuana?

I have a sleeve however I had asked my surgeon about ESG as I would hVe preferred no staple line. He doesn’t do them but said he is now doing revisions on other surgeons ESGs because they are failing six months out. Idk why they’re failing, my surgeon is considered one of the best in my state, so it could be lack of skills by the others.
  25. Has someone had in Tijuana the Apollo Overstitch Revision for a prior gastric sleeve? I really want as much information re quality of medical care and cost and recuperation as possible. Thank you! Sent from my LG-TP260 using BariatricPal mobile app
