Who else had a surgery date 10/28/15?
sugar17 replied to jbhernandez's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery on 10/27/15. I am doing well. It's a real chore getting my water and protein down, but I'm doing it. I am rarely hungry. Even when I am I don't think it's true hunger, I think it's just moments of food nostalgia. I went back to work on 11/02/15, did fine. I walked on the treadmill for the first time today and was amazed how quickly I got tired, but I'm sure that will continue to improve. I am not really excited about starting puréed foods, I'm not hungry and bowls of paste don't tempt me at all. -
Any members from the ARK-LA-TEX?

Hey there! I'm from Lubbock, Texas! Getting sleeve 11/10. Good luck with your journey! -
No swelling at all. Keeping mobile and walking a lot. I'm hoping it's just from not using them for the last few days other than for strolls around the hospital with my IV pole. Now that I'm home, I've been sure to walk for 5-10 minutes every hour to keep the blood pumping.

In Fort Worth. Getting my surgery on 11-10-14. -
I think in general, whether it's a traditional diet or WLS, the more you have to lose, the more you will lose in the beginning. I started out at 228 and lost 10 lbs by the 5th day post-op. I fully expect it to slow down to a healthy 1-2lbs a week pretty soon, but I'm ok with that. It's better than 1-2 gain a week. LOL

I totally relate. Its been over 10 months for me and Im at 45 lbs. If I may offer a suggestion...start lifting heavy weights in your workouts. It will NOT make you bigger. The muscle building increases metabolism and burns more calories. I think you will see better results. Do that 3x/week. That being said....I have been lifting heavy for many years now and I still will only lose half of a pound a week.... maybe. Its very frustrating. I had no idea how hard , how much exercise and how much dieting was involved with this. Basically, I think the band contributes 15% but the rest is all up to us. I can eat whatever I want and if I sit there long enough....I can continue to eat. Im done with all the fills and un-fills. Im staying where Im at. I must now do what it takes on my own. Soooooo HARD!

Sue, As you know by now everyone is different. I was banded on 08/10/04 and the only pain I had was from the co2 gas as it diapates in your system. But I knew I'd have this going in and was prepared and just keep thinking this will be gone shortly. Was banded on a Tuesday and I went back to work ful time on Friday. I had not actaul surgical pain and my incisions have healed well and I'm doing fine. Even had a fill and that was painless. Can't promise you you'll have same results but keep in mind I am the worlds bigges baby. I normally pass out at blood test. Of course now that you can see my veins in the arm maybe that won't be so bad LOL. I'd tell you if it hurt and I can only say it doesn't. I didn't know this going in and wish I had known about this site before. But I still wnet ahead knowing it could be painfull and all because it was the only way I was going to see my grandkids. Good luck and will think about you on Wednesday Greg

I've started my pre-surgery diet a wee bit early. I'm supposed to start it 3 weeks prior, but I've started it about 6 weeks early. I've lost 12 pounds so far and I feel great! I'm a bit hungry, but that's okay. Nothing tastes as good as thin feels, right?! My pre-surgery diet, from my nutritionist, is a Slim Fast shake for breakfast, a Lean Cuisine for lunch and a Lean Cuisine for dinner (or variations on that theme). I can have Jell-O pudding (low/no sugar) and low-fat yogurt as a snack. Plus I have a no sugar fruit popsicle for dessert. I'm drinking a TON of water and Crystal Light Iced Tea every day. I'm constantly in the bathroom, but that's okay. I get a lot of exercise getting up from my desk and walking down the hall. I'm eating apples and bananas too and every now and then I eat a salad (with regular dressing - gasp/horror!). I can't go completely off the deep end! LOL Basically, I've stopped drinking diet soda and eating out. I'm limiting my carbs (no bread, rice, potatoes, tortilla's) and cheese intake (sigh - I miss cheese). My goal is to lose 10-15 pounds before my May 13th surgery (found out today at my pre-anestesia appointment that my surgery was bumped up by two days! I'm at 300 now (ugh), but the realization that soon I'll have a "2" as my starting number of my weight has me giddy. The other realization is that I'll never, ever be over 300 lbs again. Oh my god...I could cry. I am so happy.

Gym...what is that? Just kidding...well, I never did the gym thing before but I do walk (I mean besides just getting from point a to point so I've been stepping up the power walking. Lost a total of 10 lbs since the surgery. It's totally slowing down since I've introduced mushies (went from a lb a day to 0.2 lb day) but hey - at least it's going down)!

"are you sure this is going to work"
Marivdb posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really having a hard time of it right now. Yesterday I went to see my parents who have been sick since the weekend before my surgery. I had my two weeks and one day ago. Since beginning my journey in February I have already gone down 5 pants sizes (from barely squeezing into my 26's to easily zipping and having room in my 18's now). I have lost 30+ lbs--15 of which were in the last two weeks. I am barely getting in 400 calories a day and choking down my Protein drinks......and my mom asked "are you sure this is going to work?" Mind you this is the woman who has been after me to have this surgery for the past 10 years. Now that I have actually done it and can't go back she is like "are you sure you aren't eating too much?" "are you sure this is going to work"........ I went from feeling great about myself and my progress, to feeling like a complete and total failure once again. I can't avoid her as she and my dad are very sick and need us three kids to step up and care for them. It has been bad enough that I can't be there to help her in and out of bed since I have had surgery and can't lift more than 5 lbs. I guess I am just looking for someone to reassure me that Yes this does work. That yes, if I follow my dr's rules and move more and eat less I will lose weight. That my mom is just being her usual critical self and it isn't about this surgery--that the surgery is just the most recent thing for her to pick about. You would think that by the time I am nearly 45 I would be over her nit-picking......but I"m not.......... -
Who else had a surgery date 10/28/15?
steph_anie replied to jbhernandez's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 10/25, close to the end of the Full Liquids. Thank goodness too cause I need something to chew lol. I work in a kitchen, lots of walking. I returned to work 8 days post op. People were surprised to see me back so soon, but I couldn't stay in my house anymore. I got bored and the tv food commercials were making me head hungry and irritated lol. Work has kept me busy. :-) -
Who else had a surgery date 10/28/15?

I was sleeved on 10/28. So far I am doing really well. No pain what-so-ever. No problem getting in my Water and Protein. I do get tired easily. I think that my calories are still too low. I'm averaging 600-800 calories per day. I'm also walking a bit, about 7500 steps per day. I do experience hunger sometimes. Usually it's when I see something I really enjoyed before. I think that it's head hunger. So far I've been able to ignore it. I am really looking forward the next food stage. -
HELP! My Psych Eval!
Sleeve2bFree~Tlea replied to Mythreeloves's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went through something similar. I was told my current psych did not do evals so I had to find someone else. I spent 3 freakin hours in that guys office. Maybe 10 minutes with him the rest of the time filling out a bubble in questionnaire. It took like a week or 2 to get his decision. For him to say he didn't think I was ready because I seemed to have depression issues. He wanted to see me a few more times. OMG!!! Of course I have depression issues! I'm way over weight, I have sleep apnea and chronic fatigue amongst other health conditions. This surgery can save my life you moron! I was so upset. I felt defeated. All this to say, I figured out that I could get a second opinion and so on if I had to. I ended up seeing my current psych and telling him about the surgery, he thought it was a great idea and wrote the letter. Ask around about who others have used. Your surgeons office may even have some they suggest. You'll find some who are conservative about the surgery and others who totally approve. GOOD LUCK! Just a word to the wise, make sure when your psych writes the letter they put a specific evaluation date. Mine just dated it the day it was written. Although in the body he specifically stated what it was the insurance company wanted to hear they denied my request because it did not say" I evaluated patient on this date". OUTRAGEOUS! I know! My insurance company gave me such a run around over this surgery. It took me four months to get my approval because they kept denying me over so called lack of info. Just try to be patient, stay strong and stay PERSISTENT. -
If it makes you feel any better, I did it and I'm 19. I know this will be good for me in the long run towards better health. Also you don't have to completely cut out those things, but you do have to focus on Protein as much as possible. You'll be able to enjoy foo, just in restricted and more reasonable proportions...in my opinion, having to cherish what little portions we have will allow us to enjoy food even more. Yes my dr said the same thing on my very first visit, he said lose 5-10% before surgery, I asked about that because I'm right on the line for the BMI requirement and he said, that does not matter, the insurance goes by today's weight.

Hi . I was banded at Emirates Hospital in Duabi March 6 this year however I live in Abu Dhabi. LIke you I am doing most of my research post operation. Loss was 10 kg in first 6 weeks but slowed up since then. Bigger fill on MOnday just gone so I have had the challenge of discomfort and unable to keep anything down. The inability to keep anything down was certainly more than a little scary. The surgeon saw me the same day inspite of just ringing for advice as to how long I should leave it before returning to see him in Dubai. He immediately slotted me into his day.. and a trip to Dubai resulted in .5cc out and all is well. I was very very impressed with the responsiveness to my concerns. I have followed up with fluids for the last few days and today tried scrambled eggs and yoghurt. I can get only a few tablespoons down before feeling uncomfortable but looking forward to the weight moving again. HAng in there....The first two months were definetely the most difficult. Things do improve.

LOL That is anyones guess! This time next week? Like a cat that has been run over. Twice. After that? I am pretty confident that within the month I will be back to my old self, IKWIM. I tend to bounce back from surgery pretty quick, and I am healthier now than I have been in 10 years. Thank you all for your kind words. While I am not trying to "inspire" anyone (I tend to inspire the worst in people, lol) I do remember thinking "If she can do it, so can I" when I saw a post like this... So thank you all again. I will be posting some before and during (I am not an after till the TT) in my journal later on today.

Need Advice, Kaiser SoCal Patient.
Kikiphiasmom replied to chargers56's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chargers56, I am a Kaiser pt here in Los Angeles. I went through the 6 month classes through Baldwin Park Kaiser. They request that you lose 10% of your weight by the time you finish the class. Kaiser does do the RNY/Sleeve and Band. They discourage the band though, because there are problems that are arising for the long term pts. But they still do it. I am actually going to my consultation today (09/21/09). I was going to get the band originaly but have now changed my mind and will be asking to get the sleeve. I have heard of some SD pts that are coming down to South bay Kaiser to get the sleeve. Just go through the process you wont regret it. It does take time ... good luck :scared0: -
Blood Clot Prevention Shots
TES replied to LifeBackNye7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor only prescribes the Lovenox injections if you have a 50 bmi or higher. If you are lower than that, perhaps that's why (depends on your surgeon's protocol). Just make sure you walk a TON--at least 10 minutes every hour...I set my iPhone alarms to remind me. And immediately have any calf pain or other unusual pain checked out. -

My brother went to the mall today to watch a movie. I had a good cry about it because I cannot sit for too long at a movie theater since I am 10 days post op. Plus the smell of the popcorn and then watching him scarf down a burger would probably do me in. So I stayed at home, cried a bit and watched Downton Abbey, it did make me feel better. Once I am back to feeling normal, I will venture to the movie theatre.
