Up until the moment of going into surgery I was anxious knowing my life would never be the same. I can say I am confident that the decision to have the surgery was the best thing I ever did. I am only 2 weeks out and I feel like a new person.
  2. Hi, I posted on this before and guess I am looking for some encouragement. For those of you who did not see my original post. I was banded on May 1, 2009 at 300/lbs. Join a jym with a trainer and nutritionist in July of that year and have been working out ever since. I dropped 30/lbs quickly and the last 20 have been a struggle. I have been hovering around the 250 - 258 mark for almost a year. The Nutritionist at the gym had me eating around 1700 - 1800 calories. With this weight was fairly stable around the 258 mark. Went to the Bariatric Nutritionist who says I was eating far too much. And after I loose the weight I can work on increasing calories, she cut me back to around 1300, and under 100 carbs a day. The GYM Nutritionist says 1500 is ok and maybe a few more carbs. So Here I am. So I have been sticking to around 1300 calories, not much fun. And wondering if the rest of this weight will ever come off. Still working out 3 to 5 times a week. Need to go at least 5 times but all this working out has hurt my knees so I have been going to PT twice a week. I have been keeping carbs around 100 a day. Went a bit crazy on a month long vacation and when I returned in early Aug was up to 258 again. Today down to 247 in like 8 weeks. but it is slow. I do not need a fill as I cannot eat in the Morning and having some PB Issues 3 or 4 times a week. The Bariatric Nutritionist said not to worry yet about this and to get this final 22/lbs off. Any suggestions. I was thinking to move up to around 1500 calories and increase my work outs a bit. Also a friend is going to Metabolic Research center. which is also low carb and supplements for Metabolism and doing quite well. Just want to get this last 20 lbs off!!

Is my Nutritionist keeping me fat - Part 2

Thanks I am just so frustrated, been keeping to 1300 to 1500 calories, under 100 carbs and work out min of 3 times a week with trainer and 1 to 2 more times on my own. Scale does not want to move! Not sure what it will take.

    Food prep

I food prep for the week but since surgery i am Finding that I make too much for my family and often have to throw food out. Part of the problem is we are not always eating the same thing so I still cook as though I am feeding 5 people in stead of 4. Anyone else find this an issue? And if so were you able to eventually stop over preparing as tome went on? How many you vets still food prep???
  5. Arlene that is fantastic how much weight you have lost. You are doing way better than me. But I'm doing ok just at a stall for some time now. I'm hoping new exercise, adding shakes back in, etc will give me boost. Good luck and keep up great job.

A little love for post VSG surgery patients with kids.

Thanks for the kudos! I am in this group - every day since surgery I have made a meal for my husband and son and then had something else to eat myself. I'll be glad when I can go back to a full diet in 2 weeks so I can make healthy meals all 3 of us can enjoy together once in awhile! :-)
  7. Well guys, I am almost two months post op (July 9th). I truly believe surgery was a saving grace for me. Before surgery I was 20 years old and 16 pounds shy of 300 pounds. I wasn't happy, I wasn't living life, and I certainly was not going to live a full life at the rate I was going. I started dieting February 6th & by my surgery date of May 9th I was 236 pounds! I had lost 48 pounds all by myself in 3 months. Never had I been successful before in losing. Surgery went incredible & I feel even better. I was stalled for about 3 weeks after surgery and then the weight started coming off. As of yesterday I am officially 205 pounds! A whopping 31 lost since surgery & 79 all together! It's such an incredible feeling. I really want to be 199 or under by my 21st birthday which is July 10th so let's cross our fingers that it happens. But I am so close to my overall goal of 150 that I have no patience left! I'm so excited and happy for the first time in a long time. I am so happy I got this surgery when I did & I will forever be grateful for this opportunity. Anyone thinking about surgery, my opinion is to just go for it. ❤️
  8. It's normal. You're body is healing and it's busy doing lots of stuff right now. Some people drop lots of weight right away and some people (me) don't. week 1: -1 week 2: -6 week 3: -1 week 4: -1 week 5: -3 ect... I am now 4 months out and am down 30ish. It will happen. Hang on. *hug* Oh, and the pain is probably normal, but you should probably talk to your surgeon.

    1 whole week post-op

The soreness is almost completely gone, although I still don't feel comfortable sleeping on my side. Instead I barricade myself with pillows so that I don't turn over. I am so sick of liquids and according to Dr. J's post-op diet I still have a week to go. At least now I can have smoothies and shakes to break the monotony. Yesterday though, all I could think about was Pizza Hut. I had a recurring fantasy of ordering a pan crust Pepperoni Lovers and breadsticks. I didn't do it, but man I sure thought about it. But this morning I weighed myself. Down 23 pounds. (I don't get why there is a 2 on that trophy?) I'm so happy about that. I'm even almost to my first mini-goal. ipod, come to mama.

    1 whole week post-op

Wow, 23 pounds in a week, or does that include your pre-surgery liquid phase? Still, that is WONDERFUL. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am contemplating having LBS (LapBand Surgery--too bad it abbreviates as "LBS"!), but I am not worried about the procedure itself (my would-be surgeon is the best, and teaches others how to do it). I'm worried about my psyche afterwards, because I feel much of my overeating is brain-induced. That my brain just doesn't cut off my appetite center and I'm going to be miserable craving [stuff] I can't have. Are you feeling any torment from that mentally? Again, congratulations. Hang in there.

    Any "60s" with low BMI?

I was sleeved 3/11 I'm now 61. Had a sliding esophageal hernia. (in abdomen and chest-) That was the worst part. . Doing well right now. Going on 6 weeks. I feel for you and your band. I had a hard time with deciding to go with a band or do the sleeve. I did have 2 drains for 10 days. I am still glad I chose the sleeve! Message me--I will be happy to share experience.

    How much is too much

Most drs don't require you to stop drinking before and after a shake since it is liquid. I had the same question for my nutrionist. She said just not to drink Water DURING the shake. The only way I could get fluids in in the beginning was to use a one ounce medicine cup and set the timer on my phone for every 5 minutes and take a sip of that cup (only like 1/3rd). That way I was making sure to get 1 ounce every 15 minutes. It gets easier fast. I could only drink 4 ounces per hour the first week but it quickly progressed to 8 ounces per hour the next week or so and now I can drink 16 -20 ounces an hour (if I am concentrating). I still have to set the timer on my phone for every 3 minutes or so when I am behind and take a sip. Hope that helps! Congrats!

    Well I did it today!

@athena3127 good for you for taking the step for exercise!! Careful I find when I am going regularly I crave it more!! LOL I'm just back to the gym this week since not going for two weeks and I can feel it in my shins, but I ended up doing more miles in less time so I was happy.
  15. I'm just about six months out, and I'm in my first stall. At this point, I'm pretty comfortable with it because I think my body is exhausted from losing weight. I am grateful that i made it into the 100s before the stall happened, however. If I were waiting for the 100s I would probably be singing a different song.

Stalled? or is my body just freaking out?

I don't think weighing every day is a good idea. I weigh twice a week, but will eventually go to once a week. There are too many variables at play with your weight and you can easily become discouraged, by not seeing progress. Twice a week will give you s few days of accumulated loss to show. Good luck and keep with the plan and you will be fine!

    BCBS Oregon - Timeframe

Hi all- I just finished my last preop appt. I had to do 3 appts in 6 months, a phsych eval and nutritional counseling. I have only lost 4 pounds and my BMI is 39. They are submitting today. But I am just curious if any one knows how long it will take for an answer? they told me up to 4 weeks.....Thanks!
  18. So I needed a space where I can come, vent, and move on without looking childish. The past couple of weeks a particular topic about Dr. Ramos-Kelly has been getting a lot of attention. First, let me say I heart my doctor and what he has done for me. He is an excellent surgeon. The DRAMA that has occurred is because a VST member was advocating to ONLY go through his "personal" assistant for the best price and service. I did not go through this assistant and had a great experience and the price is the same. What irks my nerve is ANYONE who did not go along and praise this assistant was talk to in an unfriendly matter. We're all grown and have opinions. BUT the icing on the cake is the information I found out in the wee hours of the morning. So this particular VST member is telling people to PM her and she will connect them to this "coordinator." She provides no info in her signature like most of us. She is getting a referral fee from this "coordinator." Which I have absolutely no issue with. My issue is bashing other coordinators and companies like you give a darn about connecting people to other good people. You are getting money for the people you send the coordinator and to me your opinions are not genuine. You are a grown women, conducting yourself as a child, and deceiving newbies to the site. How dare you claim to not know said coordinator was starting her own business when YOU supplied her with her new laptop. I was beginning to wonder how, someone who you were only around for 3 days, deserves such high praises and esteem. Its because she is cutting you into her new business model. Be honest with the people. YOU are turning people off from Dr. Kelly (I have PMs to prove it) with YOUR "car salesmen" mentaility. Geesh! Whoosa! I feel better now. Back to the regularly scheduled program. .

    To all the stallers....

Since month 3 I've lost 10-12 lbs quickly then stalled for 2-3 weeks and then started the cycle over. It's frustrating but the loss does begin again. Don't panic, Kaehl. Try shaking things up as others have said. I broke my first stall by adding a protein snack and upping my calories. I just broke my most recent stall by upping water beyond the required 64 oz.

    Sick when drinking water

I experienced something similar 3 weeks post op. I let myself get so dehydrated I was re admitted to the hospital. Turns out I had a moderate stricture Call your doctor- at the very least you need help hydrating. I can speak from experience that waiting will only make it worse
  22. I had my surgery on June 11 so I'm 5 weeks post op. I too was very anxious prior to surgery, but i want to tell you... it really wasn't so bad. With the techniques they use now, recovery is quicker and easier. And post op you get 'the button' for pain..I was encouraged to use it as much as i needed. To be honest the toughest part was not being able to drink water for 24 hours and that's not so bad.....Good luck tomorrow.... by the way I've lost 33lbs since I started the liquid diet on June 1. The Sleeve is the best thing I've ever done for my health.

    Approved Today

After bugging BCBS of IL and TeamCare, I was approved. My dr's office submitted everything last week on 4/3/18 and I was approved today! I am so overjoyed. Cannot wait to talk to my Dr's office and get this surgery scheduled. My son graduates from college on 5/12 so I'm going to wait until after his graduation to have it done. I cannot wait. I'm so thrilled! Literally feels like there is light at the end of the tunnel.
