So tonight I went to my first support group meeting. They meet once a month and it's focused on Banders. I was very happy to find a group. I felt a little shy to begin with as group things have never been my thing. I just know I will need the support and thought I would reach out to not only my internet Banders but to ones I can see. It was nice. I guess it was smaller than usual (nice day out kept some away, i think) which was better for me. Everyone went around the room saying who they are how much they have lost and a little bit about there journey. I had to chuckle at this, it felt very strange. When it came to one gentlemen he introduced himself and so on then said he is a "closet bander". He has told family and select friends but no coworkers. Once it got to me I told him that it was great to meet someone else who decided not to tell co workers and I asked how he was able to do it for 2 years. He told me he didn't lie about his weight loss (no carbs, smaller portions, high protein, and exercise) he just left out the last important tool of the band. I love it and now I have my new title "The Closet Bander" There was also another person there that is going to be having the procedure done by the same Doctor as I am so that was nice to meet her. I should say that I live about 45-60 minutes away from my surgeon's office. The support group is local for me about 15-20 minutes away. She is at the beginning of per op stuff. Well, tomorrow is the last day before surgery. I think the only thing I am really nervous about is the nausea from anesthesia. I HATE getting sick. I think I will make it through the next stage of liquids since I made it through 2 weeks without killing someone. Well I hope I can sleep the next 2 nights. The time is almost here. ~Kris "The key to change... is to let go of fear"

I really wish people would stop asking "How much have you lost" I'm talking about the people who know I have had surgery. There are only 3 people I have told that don't ask me all the time. The other family members that do know are always asking me. I finally went off on my mom and told her that I don't care about the weight I care about how I feel right now. I'm only 2 weeks 2 days post op. I am trying to NOT focus on the weight. Does anyone have and special/nice ways to tell people to lay off?!? ~Kris

Hi Katie, I had my first fill a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't bad at all. Just a little prick. I had 3.5cc's put in my 10cc band. I could definately tell the difference even when drinking Water for the first time. Just be sure to eat very slow, take small bites, and chew well. It only takes a small amount of food to satisfy my hunger. I have MS so don't get the exercise that I need but hopefully I will become more mobile as the weight comes off. Good luck to you, Bobbie

:thumbup:Hi Katy,I had my Lap-Band done in August of 08 and have had three fills.I can tell you ,there is nothing to the fills as far as pain goes. They give you a local first and it doesn't hurt at all.Don't know why anyone fears them. This last fill ,last week, has really made a difference in how much I can eat. Before that I could eat just like before surgery.I have lost slowly also but remember we are in our sixties! good luck and hang in ther:tt1:e,Laura

I had my phone appointment with Paula yesterday. She was very helpful! I was pretty nervous about the pre op diet because of past experiences with Atkins. Every time I have ever tried Atkins I got violently ill, and was worried that I would get sick before surgery this time. She said that is will be okay for me to still make my smoothies in the am with veggies and FRUIT! That is so good, I thought that I might just have to have veggies in it but I can still add the fruit. If the fruit in the am is not enough and I start to feel sick she said that I can add half a slice of bread or a cracker… just to keep it down. If I loose weight the first week then I am on the right track. I plan to not eat bread/crackers in less I really have to. But I do hope that by keeping fruit in the meal plan that I will be good to go. She also answered my question about the South Beach Diet frozen meals.. those are a great choice on the pre op diet. Having the SBD frozen meals will help me a lot with my odd ball work schedule.

5-6 months in, long stall :(
mrsbailey921 replied to Megan Renee Behnke's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in a stall... 2 months and counting. But I admit, my life is in compete and utter upheaval right now. I do not graze but I snack, and I don't get enough sleep, my insomnia is coming back, I've been fighting depression due to a devastating financial loss, and my family has been through so much this year... I know that my stall is due heavily to home issues, and so are my diet choices...I haven't emotionally eaten in YEARS and I caught myself doing it last week. Are you having any significant life problems that could be affecting you? -
How much weight have you lost?????
Kalogo replied to Kay_Benavides's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
 Today marks one week since my surgery on 8/21/08. I have lost 16 lbs. since surgery but have lost a total of 33 lbs. since 8/1/08. I needed to prepare myself mentally and physically for my new lifestyle change so I went on a liquid diet for six days. The next two weeks I ate small portions of anything I wanted up until the day before surgery, then I was on liquids again. I started soft foods today...refried beans w/ melted cheese is the BEST! If anyone has any suggestions on soft recipes, I would love to hear them. -
How much weight have you lost?????
Sue Magoo replied to Kay_Benavides's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi: I'm Sue. I was banded 7/26/07. I started dieting 4/23/07 and as of this morning have lost 105 pounds! I've been walking my ass off, literally! I'm averaging about 2.5 pounds per week. I had some slow-down, so I kicked up the exercise and it's working. I started at 324, so I'm bigger than most that are getting banded. I'm shooting for size 12 or 14, can't wait to get there. Hopefully this summer. Sue -
Glad to hear that they don't think you have a leak - it sounds like you are to tight - eat very slowly - chew well and take tiny bites - little sips of water - if you are having too hard of a time - you can always go back and have a little taken out. I was too tight for about a week after a 1cc fill - my doc took out .08 cc and now I still have restriction but can drink a cup of coffee in the morning w/no problems.. Plus as you loose weight the band is suppose to loosen - but make sure you get your protein and fluids in - that's very important - and take your vitimans. I find if I don't I bruise really easy... Our bands are so fickled - they just don't make sense at times... Blessings

I was banded on 2/27 and am still on the liquid stage and it's been really getting to me. My doc's orders are a bit more stringent than many others I see in here and his were just water for the five days after surgery and then protein shakes and ice pops for 2 weeks. I still have a week to go on the liquids and it's getting harder and harder not to give in and eat something mushy. I feel great physically and have been on the treadmill for 35 minutes the last two days. Along with pre-op wieght lose and since the surgery I have lost over 40 lbs. which is incredible. I lost 9 pounds in the five days after the surgery which really surprised me. I want to follow my doctors orders and I know that once I'm past this it will be worth it. It's worth it already!. I guess I'm just looking for some words of encouragement, especially from those who have been where I am and got through it. Thanks

Great point Sandi. I haven't made it to spin yet, but I did start running this week. So far, I've run 4 miles this week and will head back into the gym tomorrow. Congrats on all of your success! I hope to be in your shoes some day soon.

That is the experience I am having. I had my first fill 1 week ago and thought it was great the amount of restriction I was having. I have a 9cc band and have 4cc in it. Today I was telling my husband I wish I did not have to wait until Dec 22 to have a fill because I dont think it is tight enough. I have some restriction when actually eatting but then am hungry 2 hours later. I am not just a little hungry but for the first time in as long as I can remember I am starving. My stomach will make so much and be so loud that anyone in the same room can hear it. Plus I lost 2 lbs the first couple of days after my fill and nothing since monday. The same thing happened after the banding. I lost weight weeks 1-3 and then nothing up until week 6 when I was filled. I am feeling discouraged.

I am exactly 2 weeks post op today. I am feeling great! My incisions are so small and look really good. I got to start on full liquids on Sunday and have over a week left on this stage and I'm already sick of full liquids already. I typically have 1 protein shake each day than try to get at least 40 more oz. of water in. I should try to up that some. It isn't difficult for me to drink it's just A LOT of fluids. I have finally started to get some restriction on creamy soups. I am finding that I am eating too fast. I have started stopping and taking a break and I find after a couple of minutes that I am full and don't want the rest. Slowing down when I'm eating is going to be a huge adjustment for me! As far as weight loss goes, it has really slowed down for me. Last week I was at 171 and this morning I was at 167.4. So, that's a 3.6 lb loss for the week. The last 4 days I haven't lost anything. I know it will happen, I am just being my usual impatient self. I have heard of the 3 week stall, but I think I hit a 10 day stall. Lol. Honestly, I am going to have to be realistic and look at my journey on a monthly basis and to be honest, I would be pretty happy with an 11 lb loss for the month, so I shouldn't complain about a 4 day stall.

I have and still am struggling. I never have made it to my goal, but even after all these years I am not giving up. I am going to set up an appointment to go and get a fill in the next couple of weeks. I am so out of control with my eating, I just eat all the time, even when I'm not hungry! Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get my butt back in gear, and start loosing again? HELP PLEASE!

Hi there Cindy, Our stats look similar. I started at the 255 range as well. I had lost 90 pounds at one point but over the last year for various reasons some out of my control and some not I've lost some ground and am currently sitting at about the same weight as your signature line states. Surprisingly though I'm still wearing the same size slacks. Sadly a few shirts don't fit as well as I use to think. Part of the problem for me is I spent nearly a year with a fill that was too full, maybe even longer. I started getting heartburn and reflux pretty bad at night about 1-1/2 years ago and suspect that's when I was first too tight. But instead of getting unfilled I even got one or two small fills over the next year. I never had one of those I can't swallow my own spit moments nor did I PB on any kind of a regular basis but I was living on Tums nearly everynight and sleeping with about 10 pillows propping me up. The few times I went in to the doc I'd end up with the nurse practitioner. I tell her what I was eating, how I wasn't losing and about the heartburn/reflux and she would give me another small fill and send me home. This last time I finally saw the doc himself and he said he thought I'd streched my esophagus out and took almost my entire fill out to let it "rest". I go back to see him about starting the fill process all over in a few weeks. Surprisingly, I haven't gained any additional weight these last 3 weeks even though I'm eating 3 times as much as I was before. I only hope I can start losing again soon.

Who's Your Surgeon/Hospital?
Sleevie WonderLand replied to Sleevie WonderLand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I dont have a date yet, I really just started the process with Lawrence about 3 weeks ago. I did my sleep study last night, and the tech gave me a thumbs up, meaning I should be diagnosed with apnea which should get me approved for surgery. I was worried because my BMI isnt quite at 40 and I dont have any co-morbs under my belt, so I was really counting on this apnea thing to come through. I've been trying to gain weight to up my BMI but that wasnt working out too well either...I would have to gain about 20 lbs to get it up to 40. Hopefully I'll be hearing back from Jane soon, I'd like to schedule my surgery for the beginning of September since I'll be on vacation from work. -

I think u may find 2 weeks post op a little early to go to college .. could u not request some home work for another 2 weeks, not sure really, its all an individual thing how u do post op, I recover well from surgery but wouldnt have been able to do a full day at college, the seating alone would be too uncomfortable .. but speak to your surgeon regarding returniong to college .. good luck with your surgery -
Still Tired and Weak 5 days post op
Maddysgram replied to Brandy Hunter-Lee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was doing pretty good after 1wk and decided to run some errands and then it hit me. It was the beginning of second week and it only lasted 3-4 days, naps were in order. I've read quite a few threads about ppl feeling the same way, so I would say it's normal. Be sure you are keeping yourself hydrated and if this doesn't pass in a few days, call your Dr. -
Still Tired and Weak 5 days post op
Wgbem replied to Brandy Hunter-Lee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stayed out of work for 3 weeks. The body needs time to heal. Depending on the type of work you do, I recommend you rest your body. I also stayed out long enough until I got at least to the mushy stage. I walk daily and if I went back to work during The liquid stage it would have made me sick, -
how long would someone be off work?
bandiva replied to andreerichards1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is good advice, to ask your dr... I was told not to lift more than 10 pounds for 3 weeks. No ab work (sounds like your job needs abs) for 3 months. Maybe you can transfer departments for a while? Best of luck to you...and be careful! -

argon replied to andreerichards1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah, you're definitely not gonna be allowed to lift 50lbs for quite a while. I think I was told not to do more tha 10-15lbs for at least 6 weeks. I'd look into getting at LEAST that much time off, IF you can't get reassigned to lighter duties until you're able to do your old job. -
Life without huge bowls of rice a roni?
mousecrazy replied to mini_me's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You won't believe how much your tastes will change. I was a cereal freak, and now, I bet I haven't had cereal in at least 5 months. Just don't want it. I'm struggling more with ice cream, but even that is changing. I don't think I've had that in over a week...doesn't sound like much, but it's a victory. Take it one day at a time, and don't borrow trouble! There's plenty of that around, anyway! Cindy -
It all is helpful thank you!! I'm supposed to be on puréed foods but am thinking about going back to just full liquids.. My doctor is in Mexico so I haven't yet reached out to him. I feel like its bad but not that bad? I don't know.. The other big problem is that I am a waitress at a really busy place. Yesterday at work I nearly fainted and had to leave while they were crazy busy, I felt so bad!! I am gonna take the rest of this week off though I feel like I've no energy and especially not enough to be running around on my feet for 5 hours.. Today I had maybe 1/4 of a salmon patty blended and since then have had cramps and been in the bathroom all day.. Guess its back to full liquids

I was only allowed to carry 10lbs for 2 weeks so that is the biggest thing, It would depend on your child and how much they want to be carried around
