    June 21st

I'm 10 days post op, and just started being able to stay awake all day. Still not much energy, I should be walking more, but I'm just so tired. I hope it passes soon. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app

    35 degrees below Celsius

I can't even imagine it being that cold! It only gets down to the low forties (between 5 and 10 Celsius) here in winter but even then I have really felt the winters since I lost the excess insulation!
  6. I am 10 weeks out from surgery and am happy to say I am down 42lbs! I get frustrated sometimes due to my impatience, but I have never lost this much weight so fast. My older brother just saw me this weekend and gave me a big WTG high five. My clothes fit me better and I am actually fitting in to stuff I havent for over two years. I thank God for his guidence in seeking out this surgery, Was it worth it? YES! I would do it again!. All praise to you Lord.

    My Nosy Boss.....

I work in a high school. We returned on Jan. 3 from Winter Break. My surgery was scheduled for Jan. 10. I started telling people I would be out for 2 weeks with surgery on the 4th. No one asked, not even my principal and assistant principals. My doctor wrote a note on plain letterhead versus the Weight Loss Surgery Center letterhead, by my request. I didn't need to complete FMLA since it was only 2 weeks. I just used my leave. While I was out, several people texted and emailed with well wishes and asking if they could do anything. When I returned, a few people asked what I had done. I told them that I had a hiatal hernia repaired, which was true. They were mainly glad that I was back and ok. I was really weak that first week back. The first day I overdid it and stayed home the next day. My principal was very supportive and told me I should never have pushed myself so soon. But he's respected my privacy. It's no one's business IMO.
  8. Just a bit of background: I was initially banded 12/07 and then needed a band adjustment surgery in 2/09. I am now 5 months out from that surgery, and I've been going every 4-5 weeks for adjustments. Obviously they are taking it slow because I had a slipped band and we do not want to see a repeat of that. At this point, I believe I'm at 5.5 or 6 (somewhere around there) out of 14cc. I don't think I should be able to eat the amount of food I am able to eat and in the time I'm able to eat it. i haven't had any issues at all with digestion, I mean not one PB or vomit episode (knock on wood, I'm trying to keep it this way!!!!) but I can eat an entire turkey burger, the whole bun, and some baked fries on the side. And i could eat all of that in under 10 minutes. I'm trying to stay healthy and I'm eating the right things (for the most part), but when I see how fast and how much I can eat, I start to worry if there's something wrong. and I know I am paranoid and I think that my band might have slipped again (because the last time I was able to eat a lot and then suddenly nothing at all). I guess I am just wondering how others with the same amount of fill did at that stage. were you able to eat so much and so quickly?
  9. I'm sorry u hated your photos.. they say the camera adds 10 pounds. I think its more like 20. But soon we will love the camera again..
  10. I had many NSVs but it wasn't until about 10 months out that I felt significantly smaller. Even now, everyone sees me as thin but I still feel like I could lose about 30 more pounds. The mind is a funny thing!
  11. :scared:I feel great today! I have a little pressure from gas in my shoulders but im actually really suprised how good i feel. I already got a walk in and now drinking broth. The worst part for me was the heprin shot in my leg for blood clots and the IV. I got a little woosey but after that it was all a blur! I had a hiatal hernia which they removed also. Had no clue it was there! Anyways im lookin forward to the NO INDIGESTION! I used to be so bad! Anyways wanna thank everyone for being there and its been a great journey so far. Who knows how the next couple weeks will go when i start wanting all the food again! :scalesno:
  12. I had a gastric sleeve over 10 years ago. I weighed 320 and was 5'2" and 54 years old. I also have asthma - life long and I needed a surgery that would allow me to take oral steroids and other life sustaining medications that also cause weight gain... but breathing is an important concept. I could not have a bypass surgery, as my pulmonary docs said that the surgery would make the use of oral steroids impossible and I am prone to pneumonia from years of impaired airways. (And yes, I am working from home right now !!!) I went from 320 pounds to 180 pounds. I unfortunately gained 40 pounds back in the last few years, mostly due to not being able to exercise much and well.... life. I got pissed off at myself last July and went back to high protein, and low carb and more veggies and cut out the slider foods... and I have lost 25 pounds. Yes, I am still obese, but for me, who weighed 320 pounds, I now weight 193. (27 pounds down actually) since this July. At 64 years old I will probably stick around the 180s to 190. Yes - it could and should be less, but my doctors are pleased and I have been pretty darn healthy for me. I take care of my critters, keep up a house, a career as a social work supervisor, I garden and am active. For me, I have kept off over 100 pounds and now am back to having lost 137 pounds and holding. I highly recommend it. Oh, I was in the hospital 2 nights after surgery. Mostly to stabilize my lungs. And I had surgery at 54 years old

    Day #2 - Healing

Hi everyone! I am officially a bandster. Woo hoo!! Mom flew in the night before and we briefly chatted and got ready for bed. I was really tired, but once I was in bed I was quite anxious so I took my $13 Valium. Next thing I knew it was morning. We had to be at the surgery center at 6:45 so we were up and at it bright and early. We happened to walk in with my surgeon so I felt that was a good sign somehow. I was slated to go second for the day and I filled out my paperwork. They took the first girl back and it seemed just a few minutes later that they called me back. The nurses were super sweet as they prepped me. I had to give a urine sample before I had the surgery but I had to wait until the first girl was out of the bathroom. That took about 20 minutes, I think. Poor girl could never go so they brought her out to give her fluids and bumped me up a spot. Woo hoo! I talked to the surgeon a bit. He's a feisty one. But I like that. I remember meeting the anesthesiologist (CA-UTE!) but nothing much after that. Next thing I knew I was in recovery. The nurse said that I did so great during my preop diet that my liver looked fantastic and the normally 45 minutes surgery took only 20! That made it all worth it. I felt like I had been hit by a truck, but I was also feeling optimistic. I had to sit in post op for about an hour and I started to feel a bit better. As I was about ready to go the girl that got bumped came out of surgery and she was not having an easy time of it. I felt bad for her but it made me realize how well I was doing. That was it and I was ready to go home. Mom drove me and I realized it was only 9:15. Wow. I was home three hours from the time I left in the morning. Crazy! The day was long. I wasn't sleepy at all so a nap was out of the question. My mom kept me company and we watched mindless TV all day. I would move back and forth from the TV to the couch throughout the day. One thing I noticed is that I could lay on my side almost immediately. That surprised me, I took pain medication every four hours regardless of how I felt. I think that helped a lot. I also took a lot of GasX. It didn't seem to do much until late in the evening when I started to feel things moving in my tummy. I have been farting like a trucker ever since. My throat hurt worse than I expected it to, my incisions hurt less than I expected to and my gas hurt about like I expected. My friends at work sent me flowers which was super sweet. And I had a lot of friends and family members sending me good thoughts and messages. I went to bed around 10 PM. I was able to cuddle a body pillow and sleep on my side. I slept quite well until 4:30 when I got up and took more pain medication. I went back to sleep and woke up around 8:00 to a text from my friend. (Side note: she recently had a break in, but is trying to hook up with the police officer that came by and I have been giving her pointers. She had just taken some thank you cookies to the station and needed some support. ) I still have gas today, but it has subsided quite a bit. Insicions hurt but only a little bit. My throat is almost all better. There is just a small cut on the top of my mouth from the breathing tube that is driving me crazy. I have been drinking water like crazy. Yesterday I had grape juice, a popsicle and a tiny bit of chicken broth. No issues whatsoever. Today I have had more juice and I'm having hot tea now. I also took my birth control pill and had no issue. For lunch I will have some more chicken broth and for dinner I might get crazy and have some beef broth. All in all...not a bad experience. Yesterday I felt like I got hit by a Mack truck, but today just a VW bug. Ha! Hope you are all doing well out there!!
  14. hang in there, dear! i had some hiccups that scared me so bad thinking i was gonna vomit and suffocate at the same time but just try to mentally just calm yourself down and breathe. just close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. maybe watch a Tai Chi or Yogic Breathing video on Youtube to help you learn how to centre yourself and breathe. also use a tablespoon and a cup of Water and just every few moments just sip a tablespoon of water. like take 10 breaths and drink the tablespoon of water. my first day home i barely drank but the next day i got a good 40oz down with the tablespoon method. just keep a cup in your lap and watch a TV show and just keep taking the tablespoons of cold water down. i hope this helps! feel better soon, ok?

    Meals

It has been just over a month for you, and I think 10 lbs is a very respectable loss. As for meals, I make salads (Romaine, Parmesan Cheese, grilled chicken breast, cut up a hard boiled egg, and use light Caesar dressing), using a container for dressing and the other salad stuff. I also sometimes put Turkey meatballs in spaghetti or marinara sauce, some Parmesan cheese on top in a microwavable container (meal portion) and nuke for 2 minutes. That way you eliminate the pasta at least for the time being. When you feel ready to try pasta, use the whole grain type. Better for you. I also like chili. I brown a package of ground turkey, scrape of the narly fat stuff that cooks off it, then add a 15 oz can of kidney (light or dark) or pinto beans, undrained, a 15 oz can tomato sauce, a small can of chopped green chilies, some chopped onions, and simmer until hot and bubbly. Then I sprinkle Kraft Free fat free cheese on top and let it sit for a little bit so the cheese will melt. The I get out my Tupperware and divide up the whole pan into about 6 meals or more. Then you can nuke for 2 minutes to reheat at home or at work. No fridge at work? Get an insulated lunch bag that uses freezer packs. I carry a ready to drink protein shake, some yogurt, a small can of V8, some nuts (not roasted and salted, but the kind you bake with--I get almonds, walnuts, and pecans and count 10 of each and put in a snack bag--they can be a little hard to digest, so you might want to wait a while on those). I also get cereal and snacks from kaysnaturals.com. They sell them in 1-1.5 serving bags, and I will often pour the cereal into my yogurt to eat, or eat it by itself. They also have protein chips in different flavors. They sell a sampler box that allows you to try different flavors. I also make crustless pizza. You may find that chewy bread tends to get stuck (I do fine with fat free croutons on my salad-they disintegrate rather than get chewy). I take two microwavable dishes (meal portion size), cover the bottom with 1/3 to 1/2 jar of Ragu Homemade Style pizza sauce; cover with Hormel Turkey Pepperoni; cover with toppings of choice--I like peppers and onions and keep Birdseye Pepper Stir Fry in the freezer to use--it is just chunks of 3 color peppers and onions: cover with Kraft Free fat free Mozarella or Cheddar; nuke for 2 minutes. As a recovering pizzaholic--I would work out at Curves, pick up a pizza for dinner, and eat the entire 12-15 pizza myself--this really satisfies my craving for pizza. Try it. A lot of post-op eating is trial and error. I don't do low carb, but I try to eat good carbs, like cereal, salad, whoe grain pasta. I have read where some people have a problem with salad greens; I don't. Sometimes I don't know for sure until I try something. Just be sure to chew thoroughly. Some of the harder to digest foods will go down if chewed thoroughly. Hope this helps.

10 lbs is great! WTG! That is a great loss, remember you are on track if you are losing 1/2 to 2lbs per week. I do the same thing that SunnyRachel does with frozen meals. If I have to eat a frozen meal, I eat the Protein first, then veggie and throw away the starch. I also agree with Chicamam1, too much sodium. You really have to watch it with prepared/frozen meals. Keep up the good work!

Got 5 cc's today at TLBC

Hi: I have an Inamed 10 cc band. My first fill was 3 cc, but I was belching and sliming, and had to get 1cc taken back out. Pretty good on this and get my next fill this coming Thursday. Have had some chest pain and sliming and pb'ing, especially the first week after my first fill, but I now feel really ready for another fill, as I seem to be able to eat more than I want to be eating.
  19. Surgery just got delayed by 6+ weeks and It's no ones fault but my own. I was so excited, I just completed my last options calss through kaiser and was suppose to meet with the surgeon on Tuesday and schedule a surgery date. Well part of our options program with Kaiser required us to do blood work at weeks 3 and week 10. Part of the blood was was an h pylori test. Well stupid me did the blood work but forget to do the h pylori test (it's a stool test). Well when I went for my week 10 labs they reminded me. All my labs cleared but my h pylori test came back positive so now I have to do antibiotics for 10 days then wait 6 WEEKS before I can retake the h pylori screen. I am totally kicking myself because had I done the stupid test in week 3 like I was suppose to I could be done with the antibiotics and be getting scheduled for surgery next month like the rest of my class... This SUCKS!
  20. I had Ulcerative colitis back in the day and had a complete large intestine removal 17 years ago. Therefore, I go to the bathroom on average 8-10 times a day. I had surgery on 6/26/2017 and didn't have a BM for 2 days. I was advised to take benefiber (which is awesome because it dissolves completely and you can't even taste it) and that helped. You can imagine that going from 8-10 times a day, every day for 17 years, to 0 for two days made me very scared. However, the GI tract just needs some time to chill out. I hope yours gets moving soon too.
  21. I have appt this coming week, they are working me in so am not sure what date it will be on - for final meet with dr. I've been working on researching bypass vs. sleeve to make sure that I feel like I concur with what the dr. has suggested. I'm torn on some of the pros/cons of both surgeries based on following about co-morbidities/health situation: I do NOT have high blood pressure I do NOT have high cholesterol I do NOT have diabetes I do NOT currently have ongoing heartburn/acid reflux (get heartburn 3 or 4 times a yr, and acid reflux..maybe once a year if that) My BMI started out at 60 and is now 54? I am 50 yrs old (not young) I have long clotting history but NO clotting disorder EVERY episode of clotting (DVT's/PE's) had known causation. Have permanent IVC filter since 2011. Knees have severe arthritis and need replacing - have to get to 40 BMI to have kneed surgery Here are some generalities I've gathered on sleeve vs bypass from searching here, google searches, and many youtube videos watched. If anything is wrong, please let me know. It's amazing that despite how much you read/watch, you can come away with questions still - maybe my retention is shot with long pre-op diet?: Bypass – possible chance of bowel obstruction later after surgery Bypass – possible chance of twisting bowels after surgery (don't know %) Bypass - less chance of reflux/resolves reflux for many Sleeve – chance of developing reflux (do not have more than 4 episodes a yr of heartburn, maybe 1 of reflux) Sleeve – chances of clots forming in previous ‘stomach/fundus’ area - not able to get specific % (this was also something dr. mentioned) Bypass – chances of clots/DVT's? (haven't found specifics yet) Bypass vs. Sleeve - hair loss - tied. Rapid weight loss causes this and can occur with either surgery Bypass vs. Sleeve - more long term data on bypass than sleeve Bypass vs. Sleeve - overall amt of weight loss tends to even out for both at around 5 to 6 yr mark, but bypass has 10 to 20% greater chance of 'initial faster weight loss" Bypass vs. Sleeve - chance for hernias, ulcers, etc. %? for both (need to find out) Bypass vs. Sleeve – likely to cause more time in bathroom? Bypass due to dumping/vomiting (some see dumping as a 'pro'?)? Sleeve due to vomiting /diarrhea? Bypass vs. Sleeve - % of Vomiting / Amount of Nausea (same?) Bypass vs. Sleeve - easier to stretch out sleeve pouch?? Bypass vs. Sleeve - lesser % of chances or regain with bypass in long term? Statistically significant? True or False? Bypass vs. Sleeve - sleeve has more reduction of hunger hormones ghrelin & leptin as fundus removed? Anyone know if bypass has statistically significant reduction in 'unger hormones'? Bypass vs. Sleeve - more chance of malnutrition with bypass - what happens with my long term meds & how they will absorb/not absorb (take 2 anti-depressants and 1 is 'slow release' - take 2 diff meds for sleep due to shift work disorder)?? Bypass vs. Sleeve - bypass surgery longer Dang..i feel like I'm missing some obvious stuff on this list!!!! Going to go look at snippets saved in Word doc.
  22. From the album: Before, during, after VSG, 40F no kids

It took about 10 days for the swelling to go down so I could see actual weight loss. I noticed a change in shape earlier with the upper part of my belly being less puffy.

    Looking for support

I'm in the same boat .Met with my surgeon and I have a 10 pound goal .Im having a hard time and it's only been day three. So let's support each other to reach goal . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. I am curious to see who watched a video of an actual VSG before you had the procedure? I am a nursing student & have had one surgery prior to this when I had my gallbladder out 10 years ago. I wasn't afraid of surgery & the procedure went fine. Since then, I have been in the OR a few times in nursing school & have seen open heart surgery while I was 2 ft from the patient's open chest. Now that I am (hopefully) getting the VSG, I found myself feeling nervous about the procedure in a way I had not before. I went back and forth with the idea of watching a video of the procedure to take the mystery away. We fear the unknown & all that I finally decided to watch one last night & I am SO GLAD that I did. I already feel better! AM I NUTS!? The consensus among my friends was to NOT watch it. They all thought it would be scarier. What do you guys think??
  25. All liquid as well. I’m struggling with the sweetness. I’m not a fan of artificial sweeteners. I’m on day 2 of my 10 day. No coffee either. That’s hard
