    Counseling?

Before my surgery, I had to get an exam done by a bariatric counselor. They talked to me about how I felt about giving things up, or how I plan to succeed. I am a mental health professional so I told them what I knew they wanted to hear bc I wanted the surgery (I know.. I know.) But after surgery, I felt like there was some unresolved issues with food, much like yourself, and so I'm doing the process to go back to the counseling center. Honestly, looking for eating disorder counselors might be a good first step for you.. because overeating is a disorder.. I imagine most people think "eating disorder" and imagine anorexia or bulimia. Which isn't 100% the case. Mood disorders is something completely different. When you talk to a therapist, you get to interview them first. You have to make sure that THEY are a good fit for YOU. Even if it's just to go 1x a month, I bet it'll be helpful. If you don't feel comfortable with them, then ask for a change. You can request a specific gender if you'd like. Look at their credentials and see how long they've been in practice. healthgrades.com is also a good place to get some reviews. Making a call will also help you establish how they'll treat you. Trust your gut with it. I know you've had a bad experience in the past, but that doesn't mean that all experiences will be bad. I had a horrible exp in college with a therapist and swore I'd never go back. Now I've been in therapy for 3 years now and it's changed my life. Good luck!
  4. iam also at a 33 % bmi. i was told to do the test anyways and submitt the paperwor and see what happens. have test later next week, second guessing if i should go through all the trouble to just get denied. wish i could find someone that got approved with bmi of 33 % so i could be more optamistic.

    Re: New to VST

Hi Dancer, I am 12 days out and I am returning to work tomorrow. I feel full of energy and am not tired at all. You should be fine after 2 weeks.

    Re: New to VST

Welcome Dancer! Congratulations on your decision to have the VSG. Like others have mentioned, the first couple of weeks I found myself very tired. I didn't quite get all of my energy back at the two week mark, but think I would have been fine going back to work. Good luck with your pre-op stuff! This is a great place to be to get your questions answered.
  8. I lost pretty quick the first 2 weeks, then hit a wall. So, I killed my scale. It is not my friend, it's my enemy. There's no reason for me to fret each day I step on the scale and get pissed off and want to kick my dog. So, in light of resetting everything, my emotions and attitude, I'm not going to let that piece of glass and plastic decide how I feel today. I started weighing only once a week, sometimes not even that. I honestly don't care anymore about weighing. I do what I'm supposed to. I get my calories in, my Protein in, Vitamins, etc and I bust my ass in the gym and during workouts. I know I'm getting healthier, I don't need a number on the scale to tell me that. Congrats on the weight loss and the beginning of your new life. It's exciting!
  9. Well done, now stay off those scales for 1 more week!

    Surgery Is Over

My surgery was at 7:30 this morning. I was sooooo exhausted that I have slept all day! I did get up and walk which was not to do at all. There is pain but it has been controlled with the drip and a of yet have not felt really sick....looking forward to all the positive changes that will transpire for me due to this surgery and my determination. For everyone who is going through surgery in the coming weeks and months....keep your eyes on the prize and keep moving forward!!!!!

    SEX?

Does anyone know how long you are supposed to wait before having sex? I am one week post op and really don't have the energy ( or honestly the interest) but am curious how long everyone waited.
  12. It's been 6 month since my surgery and I've been at the second weight I can't seem to loose anything. It's frustrating but don't know what to do anymore. I lose 5 and gain it back, has this happen to anyone? Any info helps.

    Perth Sleevies?

I'm in Perth and had my VSG performed on 17th October - by Prof Hamdorff at Hollywood Hospital. Recovery has been amazing and no complications. I was back at work after 2 weeks and cleared to start exercising again at 3 weeks (seeing a PT twice a week and working out on my own for another 2-3 days a week). I've just come out of a 2+ week stall with no weightloss, but hovering at about 11kgs down so far. Yesterday marked 6 weeks out and it's flown! How are you doing now?

    protein shot ?

I can only tolerate oh yeah! One bars - I had to try a LOT of options. I'm 7 weeks out and hit about 60g which I know still isn't enough. Just keep working on it. I have a grocery list to try and add Protein like cottage cheese and those p3 Snacks. Syntrax nectar I can also do at half strength, albeit grudgingly.

    Obsession

ylluz I agree with the other posters there is no way you could've gained 4lbs. I didn't weigh at all until my first post-op and now I'm only going to weigh 1x a week or else I WILL DRIVE MYSELF CRAZY! It's just not worth the aggravation to me. I wish you well on your journey fellow 8/17 sleever ????

    Liquid diet...HUNGRY!

It completely sucks, but we've all been there. Are you on the clear liquid diet? I was just eating jello and drinking broth constantly! It was very tough. The good thing is....this too shall pass. A week after surgery and you won't be so starving anymore....
  18. I am pretty new to this forum. I've been doing a lot of reading but this is my first post! My surgery was tentatively scheduled for 3/23/10, but my insurance authorization came back very fast (like 8 days) so I got anxious about doing it sooner. Talked to my surgeons office this morning and it's scheduled for Friday 2/5! I am so ready and so excited. Like others on this site, I went to the dr and told him I wanted the Lap Band. He went through everything about the band, but also went into the sleeve and told me a lot of people are now choosing the sleeve, but left it totally up to me without trying to influence me either way. I found this site and made my decision within 2 days. Looking forward to updating with many good posts in the weeks to come!

    Primary Care Dr. Supportive?

Hi Devon, I am also going to my PCP who is really not supportive. I am on the roller coaster for the insurance. I have to complete a 6 month diet and exercise program. Lost 7 lbs in 5 weeks. Dr. said it was not enough. However my insurance requires a minimum of 35.0 BMI with Comorbities. I have type two diabetes and rhuematoid arthritus. I am struggling with the fact that the PCP is pushing me to loose 15 to 20 lbs a month. Hello if I could do that I would not be asking for the surgery. I have been hovering around the 40 BMI mark for a minimum of 12 years. YO YO dieting it is rediculous and very tired of the struggle.

    September 4th bandsters????

My tenative lap band date is September 5 in Houma, La. Hi Louisiana girl. W will have to support each other. I wish you all well. I am a nurse for 35 years now, and I am happy with my decision to band rather than bypass. Today was my first MD appt, but he had an emergency and I am rescheduled for next week. I speak to him often at the hospital we work, so I'm not worried about the visit. Keep us updated. I'll be thinking of you on the 3rd. Just curious, what is the cost of lap band in Slidell? Mine is self-pay and is $14,100. I am also on the liquid diet for 2 wks pre-band.

    September 4th bandsters????

RfishN: The cost of lapband in slidell is $13,600 for self pay patients. I have pre-op next week on the 28th which is probably when it'll hit me that this is real! lol I've been let down on this journey entirely too many times when it came to finding a way to pay for this surgery. I've finally come up with a solution and can't wait for it to be over with! lol Goodluck with yours and keep us posted!!
  23. Has anyone gained weight while being on a liquid diet? I started my Optifast diet on the march 5th, as of today I gained 3 lbs. I have not cheated at all, I scheduled for surgery on the 19th. I currently weigh 247 and the dr wants me to loose 17 by the 18th. Does anyone know what I can do?
  24. Surgery scheduled for Oct. 6th and I'm on day 3 of my pre-op diet. Which consists of 3 boost high protein shake and 2 cups of vegetables a day. I know it's only the 3rd day but I haven't lost any weight since I started. Has this happened to anyone else? Am I doing something wrong?

Houston Band 09MAR2011 w/ Dr Hollis

I am so sorry I failed to respond in a timely manner. I have been out of town working. When I say "shocked" I was just a bit surprised by the 14.9% finance charge when financed through Care Credit. It seems rather high, however, I don't have any experience in pricing a elective or medically necessary procedures. But thank goodness there is that option for anyone who does not have insurance coverage. I had my first appointment on a Monday, my pre-op seminar and meeting on Wednesday. I received a call on the following Monday that I was approved for surgery 3 weeks later (March 9). It was a very seamless process and was actually a pleasant experience. Best wishes to you folks using True Results and Dr. Hollis. I really enjoyed meeting him and that staff. I felt he was quite informative and very thorough with the seminar. Keep me posted on your surgery dates and I will try to do better about checking back with LBT. I think I need to check my settings and notifications. I didn't even know anyone had responded to my post. Steph
