Good morning guys, I've heard people who swear by it and others who swear against it. I've talked to a couple of personal trainers in the past and both insisted that strengh training is essential in weight loss and that you should do it since you start your weight loss journey, because gaining muscles boosts your metabolism, etc. I also talked to a nutritionist before who told me that I should wait until I have lost a larger amount of weight and then start strengh, otherwise my scale won't move. Losing inches is great, but I love to see my scale go down as well, I guess I can say that I'm addicted to the scale. (I know, I shouldn't) Ultimately, I just want to do what's right, not what I want. I've done my research and from what I've read I think it's a good idea to do strengh exercise along with your cardio since the beginning of our journeys, I tried at the beginning, but I was never consistent, but now, I've been doing it consistenly for 2 weeks, I do 20 minutes weights and then 45 minutes cardio, 3-4 times a week. What has been your experience? Have you done strengh/weights since the beginning and lost weight steadly? or Did your weight loss stop when you started doing strengh exercise? , and if it did, when did you start losing again, a few weeks/months? Or Did you wait to start your strengh training later on, after you lost more weight? I just would like to hear your experiences on this. Thank you guys, and have a great day! Love, Elena

3 weeks post op purting on weight
blizair09 replied to avremy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@avremy, I wouldn't worry too much about the bathroom if it isn't causing you any pain. Even at 3 months post-op, I only go every 2-3 days. What you're taking in doesn't look problematic to me. I bet you are just in a stall right now. If you're really worried about it, I'd call your nutritionist and have a quick conversation, but I'd bet the weight loss will pick back up before too long. -
Are THESE the gas pains - Day 5 of banding
daisybug replied to thughes113's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My gas pains lasted for two weeks. I had the SHARPEST pain inside my left shoulder. It felt like i was being stabbed with a knife. I used gas-x and it helped a little, but mostly I was told to MOVE. The more you walk, the better. WALK WALK WALK ,, the more you move, the better. Even little frequent trips around your home. Hope it goes away fast for you!!! 278/232/180 -
Are THESE the gas pains - Day 5 of banding
jeremiahsmommy replied to thughes113's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My best guess would be gas. My nurse in the hospital told me that they have to fill u with co2 when doing the surgery. So you will have excess gas. I had my gas under my ribs and in my shoulder. I am 2 1/2 weeks out and still have shoulder pain from gas. But my nurse also said, Gas-x wont do a thing, its like taking gas-x for a headache. Hope i could help and good luck!! -
Banded June 1st and have no restriction
jensmallwood replied to criveraarroyo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to my doctor's office, mush means blended up or pureed before it goes into your mouth. That way you can't accidentally swallow something too big. So yogurt, applesauce, thin oatmeal, are good choices. What I did was to put whatever I made for my family for dinner into a blender with some liquid (chicken broth, mushroom soup- depending on what I was blending up). The beginning of the mushy stage I made it the consistency of applesauce. During the second week, I made it a bit thicker. It's normal not to have any restriction at this point. (or to have very little.) You won't start to get restriction until you start to get fills. -

I'm down to my last 21 pounds and they don't want to give up the ghost. I too am really watching what I eat but have decided that I need to amp up the exercise. I've lost 4 pounds in the last 3 weeks so I think the increased exercise might be doing it. Good luck and hope this might help you. -
5 Weeks Out--Fatigue And "water Nausea"
terrilynndrew replied to goldenraisin214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate plain bottled water, PRE-op I was crazy about those little diet Snapple packets, now I can't stand them! I love, love sugar free Kool Aid packets in my water. Since I started drinking them this last week, I've been easily drinking a 32 oz sports bottle of water, the most I've had since surgery and I do feel better. No comment on the protein supplements-I had to pause on the shakes, I'm eating my protein these days! -

I lost my first son at 20 weeks....I just kept repeating to myself "we were going to have a baby but we had an angel instead" ... The pain hurts ... Allow yourself up grieve.... Hug your little girl and go through the grieving process... -
I just had the surgery last Friday and I'm considering going back to my desk job tomorrow (Thurs) for at least a half day. Not trying to brag, but the facts are I'm feeling great. I just flew half the day today and walked the airport terminal changes and drove around when I got home. I'll be back to work full time next Monday for sure. I had cleared working from home for two weeks but no way I'll need it. Everyone's different and your milage may vary.

My goal was walking 150 mins a week. They said I could break it up any way I needed to -
Had my Band placed on the 4th. No real problems. Was sore, but not in what I would call pain. Stayed in hospital over night. Nurses had me up and walking. Started some Clear liquids (Water, broth and jello). Went down ok. Went home, been drinking lots of water. Also had coffee, and tomato Soup. Soup tasted real good. Have not had anything backup yet. I feel no hunger at all. Guess I stay on these liquids for another week or so then try something more substantial. Started this journey @ 361 pounds.. Just weighed a min ago. 325. I hope this keeps up. At this rate I will see my goal of 250 in less than a year. No gas problems noted. Just sore. Claude Allen Green Cove Springs Fl

depression pre surgery.... and it remains.
Maple31 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 8 weeks post surgery. I had my surgery locally where I live but fibbed my way though the process. Sadly I can now say I wish I had not. I am still severally depressed and unhappy. I started this journal to once again be the person I felt best at, prior to three kids. I'm miserable. Every time I eat I get heartburn. And I lack the motivation to drink gallons of water. I suck. Am I alone? -
Tablets (pills) 4 weeks post op
colorado replied to Pam Peltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take any tablets I want - one of my major annoyances after surgery was the not so pleasant liquids:( I was happy to start taking tablets - about 3 weeks after surgery - first I had to take them one at a time, now (7 months post-op) can swallow the whole handfull (about 8, including tylenol and multivitamin) at one time - my method prior to surgery. I was told as long as pills go down and stay down you can swallow them. As I mentioned in a previous post - the Dr's and researchers are really not sure how our body is absorbing the medicines - this is why frequent blood tests (every 3 months) are necessary to make sure everything in your body is working as it should. -
5 weeks out how much weight have you lost ?
aelovelady replied to wendyjanel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The approach I took was to look at this as a tool, not an overnight miracle. I reached my goal weight by following the rules, the only time I didn't have success was when I didn't follow the rules. I exercised fairly regularly, but I had just as much success in weeks that I didn't exercise as when I did. So, it pretty much comes down to how much you put in your mouth. Follow the instructions and you will most certainly have success! Good luck to you! -
3 weeks post op purting on weight
blizair09 replied to avremy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are probably just experiencing the "three week stall" that is well documented on this forum. Outside of that, the body does a lot of weird things during the first few weeks as it adjusts to a new normal. What are you consuming at this point? I can't imagine it is much, but there may also be an answer in that... -

Is it normal for eating to get harder instead of easier?
marieee posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't had my band filled in months. My surgery was 9 months ago. Usually eating has gotten easier instead of harder, which is of course why we need fills. I don't need my band filled, and eating has all of the sudden got harder for a few weeks. At first I though it was PMS because of what I have read some people say about PMS making your band tighter, but that has passed and it's been too long for it to be caused by PMS. I think I may be eating too little, but I am making sure I get nutrients. I am not under stress, and nothing unusual has happened like stress. Should I go see my surgeon? I'm thinking I may need to because it is getting hard to eat soft food. Could this mean my band has slipped? I will go read up on that now. I hope not! Thanks! -
My doctor didn't require any pre-op diet, just Clear liquids the day before surgery. I went 2 weeks ago to sign my consent to surgery and have some questions answered and have my weight taken. Well, today I went in for a post-op check up (to have the doctor check my incisions) and I've already lost 11.2 pounds!!! I'm so so excited! I knew that I had lost some weight, but 11 pounds, I couldn't believe it. I feel even more motivated to get my butt up and moving. I know it's mostly Water weight, but heck I can't remember the last time I lost 11 pounds.

Our health system/my hospital charge
terry1118 replied to shmily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My daughter is uninsured. She was really sick last week and developed a secondary infection. She went to the doctor's office and they only charged her $35 (insured cost is $170, uninsured self-pay with cash $35). Big difference, wouldn't you say? -
First time feeling some buyers remorse
catwoman7 replied to WhatATool:-)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
five years out here. I can eat anything except for really fatty meals. For example, before I had surgery, my husband and I loved to go out for Friday night fish fries. Two or three fish filets, battered or breaded and deep-fried, topped with tartar sauce, with a side of fries and a side of cole slaw made with mayo. That would be a no-go for me now. I'd be in the bathroom getting sick after eating that. I could maybe eat half of a deep-fried fish filet. Anything else I ate with it would have to be non-fatty. but pretty much anything else - yes. Just less of it. I used to be able to eat half a large pizza in one sitting. Now I can eat one or two pieces. but when you think about it - that's the way normal-sized women usually eat (unless they're exercise fiends or were blessed with great metabolism). A few weeks before surgery, I watched what my female co-workers ate for lunch. There were a couple who ate what at the time I would have called a normal lunch. A sandwich, chips, maybe a cookie. Or maybe take-out from a deli or a fast food place. But a majority of them ate things like a sandwich and an apple. Or a sandwich and some baby carrots. Or a thing of yogurt and bagel. Honestly, I think that's just normal in the non-obese world. Unfortunately, I might add... But that's the way I usually eat now, too. I started counting calories when I was about a year out. I still do. As long as I stay at or under 1700 calories most days of the week, I can maintain my weight. I do occasionally go over that - and sometimes by a lot (like on special occasions), but I try to keep that to only special occasions. Most days, I do stay within my range. That calorie range will vary for everyone depending on a lot of factors. But anyway, to address your first concern, yes - I could work ribs into my daily plan and still stay within my range...
