Hey! No you aren't weird or crazy. I think you are perfectly normal. One thing you have to remember, you can still eat what you want with the lapband. Your lapband will tell you what you can eat. For instance, I can eat bread but can't eat breadsticks. I used to love them. Also, I was a pepsi addict! I drank it full strength with the sugar...don't care for diet pop...lol Also, with your approval from the parent company the insurance will pay...either way, you won't be responsible for the bill. Also, you are right, you aren't very big. Diet Coke is very good to alot of people and it is a life change. But think of it this way, Are you happy with yourself? Are you comfortable with you?? If you are then this is a no brainer, don't do it. But if you have health issues and have issues with your body and the way you look, then do something about it. Take a little control. God will take care of the rest believe me. I know how you feel. I was supposed to have the bypass. I went through all of the things I had to do. One week before my papers were to be sent for approval I got sick and was hospitalized. I was told that I need colon resection surgery. I got three opinions from three different surgeons and all said the same thing. The surgery had to happen. I was approved for the bypass one week after submittal then waited a month for the colon surgery do to the second and third opinions and the colonoscopy. The surgery went haywire and I was opened up. No laprascopic surgery for me! lol..It took two months for me to heal because a few weeks after the procedure I got MRSA. After I got through all of that, my surgeon told me he didn't feel comfortable with me having the bypass because of my colon surgery. One month later I was banded. It was very easy for me to get discouraged and scared not to mention my husband and family didn't want me to do it anyway. I am banded and very happy. Everything went well Praise God! I said all that to say this, its your life. You only have one, don't let it be governed by fear. Its your responsibility to live your life to the fullest. If you are happy...there is no point to having the surgery..if you aren't and want to be, there is going to be some sacrifices..including Diet Coke... Much love! Keep us posted!

I have Bipolar 11, and take Riperidone which when i first started made me gain 20 lbs in 3 weeks!!! I kid you not! I had had my gastric bypass July 2009 and had lost 60 lbs by Nobember then i had to be put on Risperidone and it basically reversed the whole surgery. So i go in for lapband surgery next Friday now that i am almost weened from it. Abilify is a weight gainer but not as bad a risperidone. Here is a link to a study about Abilify and other of the same kind of bipolar meds. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/28/business/28psych.html?_r=1&

Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery 10/24/2016
DelRey310 replied to DelRey310's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I had the sleeve over two years ago and then converted the sleeve to the bypass. Post op six days now. Yes I had to do the two week diet prior to surgery. The first week consisted of a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch, and for dinner, 1/4" chicken, Turkey or fish with veggies. Second week was all liquids, including Water, homemade broths, Protein shakes & tea. Tomorrow will be two weeks that I have been on liquids and it is very hard. I am so tired of protein shakes so I've literally been drinking more of the broths and teas over the shakes. I've been able to do about 1-2 shakes a day. I feel satisfied without restriction when sipping. I can finish one cup of tea or broth without any discomfort. I've finally lost the six pounds that I gained during the surgery from the carbon dioxide and all of the fluids from the IV. I have one more week to go on liquids and then I can have my first egg. Either poached, scrambled or egg whites. I can also have lowfat geek yogurt and cottage cheese during week 3. I can't wait for that. We are almost right around the same dates for our surgery . I'm happy for you! Keep in touch. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am so sorry your surgery had complications. I had a sleeve to bypass revision for GERD on 6/29. I was unable to stand up to begin walking without becoming tachycardic and dizzy on 7/1. My hemoglobin was 7.1 and I got 2 units of packed red cells. I felt much better afterward. My drain was left in for 10 days as I continued to produce a lot of blood from the chest. My surgeon suspects I bled from several areas as I had more than one procedure done. I feel much better now. I hope you feel better soon, you have been through a lot.

Beginning BMI 35 or under
redhead_che replied to 1GardenGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a BMI of 32 with no comorbidities. I had to self pay. First spot was in September and I had surgery in November. This was 2017. I advise addressing any food addiction or other mental health concerns adequately prior to surgery. Or you may end up like me 3 years later and qualifying for surgery yet again and pursuing revision. Dealt with my trauma with food and I had to do therapy before I felt ready to seek revision now. -
I don't think it is a matter of defining who they are, I think it is something different. If the band didn't work for me it is almost a threat that the band might not work for another and that is frightening to some people. Maybe they spent all their money on a band and if it does not work they have no financial options left. One thing I find annoying as hell is when people automatically assume that if the band did not work for someone is it because they didn't change eating habits or something similar. Sure, there is work that needs to be done but sometimes the band just really isn't doable such as in my case. I did change my eating behaviors, I overhauled my diet, I exercised my butt off, I dealt with head issues, I worked on head hunger and I lost weight but I still hated the band due to what it was doing to me. Yet I have had people tell me I didn't have a right to a revision because I am at goal. I'm self pay, btw. Or people that suggest I don't know how to chew well after 18 months and on liquids only for three months. I think it boils down to a fear that the same thing might happen to another and that is when people come out fighting for the band.

OK - help - hope I am not getting too excited here!!
Bob_350lbs replied to SuzKelly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, my PCP and insurance company. Their policy is that unless you have co-morbidities, a lower BMI of 39 (mine) didn't qualify me. That is ridiculous. The 1# cause of death in America is heart disease, directly caused by obesity. So, really obesity is the leading cause of death in America. Just because I haven't had a heart attack or stroke yet, doesn't mean morbid obesity isn't going to kill me. That is why I had to be a self-pay. Dr. C will do the surgery w/o comorbidities, if you are at least 70 lbs overweight. Oh, and guess what? My surgeon's post-op report revealed that I have a fatty liver, that can cause serious problems, and even progress to non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, if weight is not lost. And, I had a large sliding hiatal hernia that went undiagnosed until my VG. My father died due to kidney failure caused by diabetes. He wasn't supermorbidly obese, just obese, and wasn't dx w/diabetes until after his triple bypass, at age 50. They ended up paying for 2 coronary artery bypass surgeries and a kidney transplant, but WLS? Out of the question. I knew if I didn't do this, I would have ended up just like my dad. I have that abdominal fat, which is the worst, and strongly indicates insulin resistance, which is a step away from diabetes. Diets rarely work, so this was close to my only hope to get my health back. I will be 52 in a couple weeks. I wish I would have done this sooner. -
Would You Do It Again? Why Or Why Not?
Meljp replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I so appreciate everyone's honesty on the subject. I feel like I am in a fog....my Fibromyalgia just makes the fog much worse....I feel very confident in the team so surgeons and hospital. My PCP's husband had Gastric Bypass surgery last August at St. Joseph East in Lexington. The day I met with her, her husband came into the room (1/2 the size he was last Aug.) and he shared his experience with me. He was totally positive about the surgeon's, staff, hospital stay. I could hardly get a word in edgewise he was so happy to share his story..I has originally choose another hospital and my PCP helped me to make the decision to go to St. Joseph East. (It's a longer drive for hubs to visit me), but in the long run I feel confident all will work out. Peacequeen: I live in Georgetown, KY Big HUGS to you during this time. So sorry to hear about all of your complications...Hang in there... ab76307: We are neighbors as well!! Big WAVE to you!!! Did your doctors have you on a High Protein and Vegetables (low carb) diet weeks before your surgeries? I am sure I will be on a liquid diet once I get my surgery date...Blessings -

I had the band to sleeve revision this week. Once my stomach healed I never felt full / satisfied from the band. The full-o-meter never worked like it was supposed to. I am hoping for better from the sleeve - I can’t keep gaining because I am taking years off my life.

Having Lap-Band to Gastric Sleeve revision
littlebare posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi I'm having my band removed on April 7th and getting the sleeve. Anyone out there had the same thing and could tell me what to expect? I've been banded for almost 3 years and am wondering how much more painful it will all be since I'm having more than just the sleeve done. I'm ready for whatever is to come just would like to know what the expect. Thanks! -

Congratulations and best of luck. My insurance has approved me for both Lap Gastric Bypass and lapband. I'm trying to decide which one I'll do. -
I wish I was so lucky, this is my post above and after 3 days of the slip I had to have emergency surgery and have my band revised, 3 hr surgery, lots of scar tissue around the band, I could not eat or drink anything lost 15 lbs in a week. I am 4 weeks post op, just got a 2 cc fill and gained the 15 lbs back:scared2:..anyway they used the same band and just hiked it up and sewed it back in place, he called it an acute prolapse and said it was due to the weight loss and the band got loose and slipped, he said it was a pretty severe prolapse. good luck, sounds like u will be fine.....

How did you choose your doctor?
Sharpie replied to semausmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
do your research and don't depend on comments from anyone . each person has to make their decision based on how they think they will do. The difference is how drastic you want to go. Lapband is no walk in the park either and unless your are sure you can be pretty compliant you may opt for something else. I did not want to have a radical rearrangement of my intestines or removal of my stomach. My husband had esophageal cancer last year and keeping his nutrition up was a major problem. Had he only had 20% of his stomach I doubt he would have survived. long term thinking is important. Lapband is revisable or removable if necessary. the other surgeries are for life. -
How did you choose your doctor?
tryinagain2day replied to semausmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First want to say that people who have the band can share some of their experiences- good and bad. The band was not good for me but great for my dad. I think it's great to understand ALL options when gong in for a surgery. I went in with blinders as I didn't want anything that was going to change my insides and many say the same. There are plus and minuses from all surgeries and really need to be aware of options that's why they are there. By the way- I was handed 2012 lost 25 lbs gained back 3 times that amount and now revised to sleeve 5 days ago. Whatever a person decides on they should view and understand ALL. -

Some questions: What is your BMI? How much weight do you want to lose? What is your goal weight? How have you tried to lose weight in the past? Have you consulted with your family doctor? Sorry for the questions, it's just that you are so young and you don't look obese in your photo, you look adorable. It's possible to look at lap band surgery as a quick fix but it is just a tool and you still have to do the work. I am newly banded but have been reading these boards for months and I know the veterans will say the same thing. I'm not saying that you are wrong at all - I'm just wanting to hear more of your story. As to naysayers - get them to research it themselves! Perhaps download a pamphlet from TLBC to show them. They may have it confused with the gastric bypass, which is much more risky and changes your anatomy forever. Personally I have so far only told friends but not family - and I'm 44! lol I figure maybe I will tell them later, maybe not. Friends are my best supporters anyway. I'm glad you posted - all the best!
