Hello everyone, this is my first time on the forum:) I'm 20 years old (yes I'm young hehe;) ) and I have been overweight my entire life and dieting the whole time too! I am 5'6 and weigh 235 lbs. I'm not sure if I meet the requirements because Im not 100 lbs overweight, but I have been really think about getting the lap band surgery lately. I live in San Diego, CA, my husband is in the Navy. I want to know if any of you are from San Diego and have found a primary care provider that is helpful in starting the process? My provider is in Coronado and makes comments every time I go in if I have gained a pound or two or three ( which really bugs me because I am ALWAYS fluctuating) and although she is overweight herself I don't think she understands. I need help! If anyone has advice I am open to it even if you are outside of san Diego, share your experiences, whatever:)

First 3 weeks I didn't eat anything. I drank protein shakes. It was tough. Being around food. But you gotta be strong. Seeing commercials for pizza and stuff was tough. After 3 weeks I went to my doctor and he was happy with my results, so I was aloud to eat regular foods and return to normal activities. So I use My Fitness Pal to track my calories and exercise. I set a 1200 calorie a day goal for myself, and it works. I'm no longer hungry all the time, commercials don't bother me now. I know I have to do this and be strong. I tried 1,000 different diets, and never any results. So I told myself it's going to be different this time. I can do this. It started slow, but now I'm walking 2 miles a day on my treadmill and eating healthy, chewing my foods really well, not allowing food to always be on my mind, no fast food at all. I have so much more energy, and I feel so much better about myself. It's hard work, you have to be willing to help yourself with the band. But it's the best decision I have ever made.

I had my surgery on January 2nd and I'm not sure how the fills work. I think some people get fills as soon as they have surgery and others not for a couple of weeks. I have to see my doc on Tuesday (not even a week since I had surgery.) Since surgery I haven't felt too hungry, in fact I've been almost disgusted with eating. I've also been nauseous. Please give me some inputs on theses fills and might I have been filled already? What should I expect at my first appointment?

I can only speak from my experience, but my Dr. did put a small amount of fill in my band during the placement. I think 3cc's in a 14cc band. It was about 6 weeks after surgery before we added any more. My Dr. asked about how long i was going between meals, etc. and then decided to add 2cc's. Then appx every month i would return and we would discuss, and add if he felt necessary. It was a simple procedure to add/check/remove saline. Took only a couple minutes. I will say this, I STRONGLY suggest that all fills be done with fluro.

Congratulations. It sounds like things are going well for you. I didn't get my first fill until 4 months after my surgery. My doctor wants me to lose about 2 lbs per week. He says it is the healthy way.

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Anyone banded around Hummelstown PA?
grlwunderkas posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi all, I was banded on May 12, 2008. To date, I've only lost about 21 pounds. I'm pretty disgusted with myself. I have no energy to do anything. I don't go to bed early, I don't eat right, I'm not getting enough water or exercise. I have all the excuses in the world, and I'm tired of living the way I am. I have 4.1 cc's in my band and I can tell the restriction is there, because I still get sick sometimes. Yet, other times, I feel like I could eat a cow! It's frustrating. I work full time, I go to school full time, I have two children, a husband, a business, a cat, and a home to keep up (yeah, you guessed it, my home is a wreck too!). Oy! I have very little time. I work from 6:30 AM to 3 PM and I guess I just would like someone who could maybe walk with me even a few days a week...email me to help keep me motivated, stuff like that. I think I'm pretty good at motivating other people, I just suck at motivating myself! -
How did everyone survive the holiday?
ShrinkyDink replied to amaltha's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did pretty well. I cooked everything just as fattening as always, I figured it was a special meal, no need to give up things we have once a year. Difference was I only took a few bites of each thing. I still took in more calories than I should have, but it was probably a third of what I would have eaten before so I consider it a victory. It was really nice to enjoy the meal without the food coma wasn't it! I've kind of let my plan slide a little this week with the kids home and the holiday and all and had a couple of ups and downs on the scale but came out with no gain or loss overall so I consider that a victory also. -
Has anyone out here had a rotator cuff surgery or any other orthopedic surgery since being banded? I find out next week but it looks like I might need surgery done on my shoulder. If so, did you leave your band as is during the surgery and after the surgery or did you have an unfill? Any advice would be appreciated.

That is totally awesome! I get my first fill on July 31st and I too am down 22 pounds since preop-diet and post op surgery. I am really excited and glad to know that it was not painful! I think that has been my biggest concern about all of this, whether or not I can tolerate the fills! Well I will know in another week. Best of luck to you!

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Just banded on the 20th of November
rdt123 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I need someone to help me through these first couple of weeks. I am 23 year old female. I just had my surgery and I am already getting sick of the Protein shakes! Since the beginning of my weight loss journey, I have lost 11lbs. my beginning weight was 291.5lbs. according to my scales. My goal weight is 135-140. If you are willing to be my buddy, you can send me an e-mail. I check that more often than I am on this. Thanks. Raphaella raphaellat@gmail.com -
wow...i went into this proceedure thinking i needed to do this before i have any health issues...luckily as my dr states.."your medical history is pretty boring"...but i weighed 390 pre lap band...was banded 2/26...havent weighed since the day i started the two week pre-diet...and i as i went into the operating room i was thinking...someday i will be able to REALLY dance with my husband...and ride carnival rides with graci...the love of my life, my 16 mth old daughter. i have not given myself a goal...or have any expectations in any sort of time frame. i dont know if this is wrong or not...but in my mind there is no way to be 150 lbs and i dont want to be discouraged by numbers...that is what i have obsessed with all my life and still managed to reach almost 400 lbs...but i see you guys with your tickermeters and i wonder if i too should be keeping track of what and when i lose. i am only 4 days out of surgery, have suffered no nausea, no hunger, and little discomfort..i feel so lucky to have been able to be banded and i believe that 200lbs or more is a thread that i want to have access to because we are the ones that have suffered so....physically, emotionally, to be where we were pre-band...and with such a huge amount to lose, it is through the encouragement of others that we feel able to keep going, at least for me...sorry to ramble, it just feels good to get some of this off my chest.....

It is so wonderful to hear some voices of experience I have been very solitary with the lap band subject to those around me. My biggest fear is that I have "ruined myself", that I let my weight get so out of hand that there is no help for me. I am very fortunate that at the present time I have no health issues, other than it's getting more and more difficult to maintain the energy level I need to work. I have decided to attend a seminar about Lap Band. It's next week so I'm going to keep educating myself over the weekend. Thank you all for you help... I'm so very pleased I have found this sight. you should be getting a fill soon. the band doesn't work right away you need to heal and rest aft such a shock to the body. I have a 10cc and now after 3 fill have 6.5cc in it and I am never hungry in fact I have to watch the clock and track my meals to be sure I eat enough. this will come for you but yu need to do the work and this is the time to practice how to measure and solect foods that are right. Clean out your house so there is not food there you shouldn't eat. pack snacks and shakes with you when you go out so you have the right stuff with you. make this eork it tske seversl weeks to learn all this.

Hi there! I had my surgery on November 1 so I am just in my fourth week post op. Lately I have been feeling quite hungry and I know that I have over indulged on at least four locations. I haven't really had any negative side effects from doing this and that sort of worries me. I don't want to over eat and I will stop, however, I am wondering if I have stretched my stomach? I want to smarten up right away and stop this behavior. I just hope I haven't done damage. I don't feel any different so hopefully all is well. Just wondered if it is at this stage easy to over eat. I was always told that it was not easy to overeat. Just so you know I have not had a fill yet but have one booked in approximately 2 weeks. Can someone please provide me some assistance. I really appreciate it.

Wishing this second fill jumpstarts my weight loss
Heccat2 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
During my 5 day preop diet, I lost 11 pounds. A week after surgery, I lost 5 pounds. During this time, I got my first fill of 1.5 cc. It's been two weeks and NO weight loss! Today, the doctor added 2.5 cc and now I'm at 4.0 cc. I am praying that with this second fill I would stop being hungry and start losing some weight. -
Hello everyone.... I am about 4 weeks out of surgery, and i am getting my first fill on may 28th....... ummmm i have no restriction..... i can practically eat as much as i could before..... i do get full quicker but as for the band restricting my food intake isn't really working...... is this normal?? will i get restriction when i get a fill??

I am unsure what the name of the lastest surgical technique is for implating the band, does anyone know? Oh and as long as I got ya, is the band actually stiched in place with part of the stomach "flapped over it"?? And during the healing process (post implant -- first six weeks) the flap/stomach will actually coverover/obsure the band itself anchoring the band in place in effect -- is this true ??

I was banded on 7/24/15 they said I have a large band (14cc) I had my first fill a couple weeks age (3cc) and I had 3 cc on the day of surgery. I went from 234 day of surgery to 219 doing very low carb and now I'm up to 227 after stopping low carb. I'm eating less than before surgery I've had a few mild stuck episodes. But I still have a big appetite. Is it because I need more of a fill with a large band? Any advice would be appreciated.

To the tune of "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" 99 pounds left of fat on this bod, 99 pounds left of fat. Lose the next pound, and dance all around, 98 pounds left of fat on this bod. Guess WHAT? Today I lost the pound that makes my FitBit tell me I have 99 pounds to go!!!!! Yahoo! I can really tell a difference in restriction with my second fill from last week. Such a small amount of food satisfies me. Am I exiting Bandster Hell for Bandster Heaven? I hope so!

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Anyone in the Chattanooga, TN Area

One week 2 days post op, doing ok but curious about availble mentors.. -
I think u are doing great, this isnt a fast weight loss solution and this should have been explained to you prior to surgery. Weight loss till u get to your sweet spot/full restriction with fills, will depend on your willpower mainly and wise choices with food and exercise ... the average weight loss is normally 1 to 2 lbs per week, u seem to be bang on target. This time post op up to 6 weeks is for healing and getting used to the new eating regime so dont be too impatient u seem to be doing fine as u are

I have PCOS and would love to hear if this works. I have been irregular for years. I am not looking to get pregnant soon due to just getting banded over 5 weeks ago. Good luck and keep us updated.

I just got a call from my surgeon's office to let me know that I am approved by United Healthcare. :clap2: UHC mailed the approval letter yesterday. I'm so excited and I wanted to share. It's been 2 weeks in review, so I'm very happy they were able to turn it around in such a short time for me.
