I use the carnation instant Breakfast sugar free. I add 1/3 c of dry milk to increase the protein. This gives me 21 grams of protein. I also heat it and it take like hot chocolate. I also have added the Torina sugar free syrups, I currently have raspberry, carmel and for the holiday-gingerbread. You can also add the dry milk to chicken broth to add protein also.

Ok, so as I sat at work yesterday, I was trying to figure out how to get more cardio in at the gym. Can't do any longer on days I have to catch the bus in dt mpls for work and have to get home after lifting to have dinner with the family in the evenings. Don't feel up to doing treadmill at home at night. Too tired by then. So, solution, get up earlier in the morning and do 1/2 hr on treadmill at home before hitting gym at 5 am. So, 4 am is announced by the alarm, up I get and down to the treadmill. 1/2 hr and 390 extra calories burned. Put on running pants, coat, gloves, grab bag and off to the gym. As I am supposed to go to a weddiing reception after work, I have to do upper body circuits and 50 minutes on treadmill at gym. Note: I can do the extra because I have to drive to work so I can get to the reception, wife not going. So, here is the workout(s) from this morning. Treadmill @ home: 32.5 minutes @ 3.7 mph and 2.0 incl, 390 calories, 2 miles Circuit training-upper body: 1-HS Hi Row-60 x 12 2-Bench press-175 x 12 3-Pec Deck-80 x 12 4-Rope Cbl Curls-85 x 12 5-Skull Crushers-75 x 12 6-HS Lat Rs-70 x 12 7-Roman chair back ext.-45 db x 12 8-BB shrugs-175 x 12 Complete 3 circuits with about 3 minute rest in btwn circuits. Treadmill @ gym: 50 minutes @ 4.0 mph btwn 1.0 and 3.0 incl., 710 calories, 3.32 miles. Now, may not go to the wedding reception as it is about 1 hr from home and don't want to drive that far. So, I may hit the gym for another hr on the treadmill tonight. Workout clothes are going to be SWEATY, but may have to suck it up and stink.

I also work in mental health as a Psychiatric Technician. Unfortunately have to do alot of floor stabilizations, because of that I was told by my MD that I would not have patient contact for at least 4 weeks and 2 weeks of limited duty.

I would suggest the preop diet of 3 premier protien shakes, 2 green salads, 1 serving of 6-8oz protien,,, keeps carbs and sugar low, protien high. I lost 23# in 14 days in this diet Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

Same thing has been happening to me! Except it has been a month since surgery for me!! Put on about 2-3 lbs since then and so far it isn't going anywhere!! I hope everyone is right and once I get a fill at the end of the month the scale will move in the right direction!! (for both of us )

Man, I gotta tell you, that was a very moving post! I'm less than a month out but I feel unbelievable. I met the surgery half way almost, I lost around 33 lbs pre-surgery and now down another 24 in 3 and a half weeks! We're rollin.... Everything's hanging off me, been hittin Goodwill and such; I refuse to buy a new wardrobe until I'm sure that I've leveled off, maybe around MAy or June, so I'll be saving up.. So good job to you! I know it feels pretty fabulous, I can't believe the reduction in daily pain from back and joint pain that was my companion.

I am 4 weeks out and still lethargic. Like you I have periods of energy but this quickly passes. I am not getting all the protien in and maybe that is why. I am also still sore on the left side. I had a hand assist which required an extra 2 and a 1/2 inch incision up from the belly button. The pain is on the left side where one of the incisions will not close and it leaks all day. I hope you get to feeling stronger. I suppose if you losing alot of weight some low energy is normal.

It has been 5 weeks post op and so far I am feeling OK. I see lots of folks who say they now have tons of energy and feel great. I feel OK but my energy level is still low with a few periods of a little more energy during the day. I just need to know am I being too hard on myself? I am not sure. I get between 60 to 70 grams of protein a day and on most days I do get 64oz of water. Yet, I still feel that I do not have enough energy. I am still on protein shakes and have started on yogurt, swiss cheese, scrambled eggs (once in a while not everyday). I have been avoiding vegtables and fruits and I have been told not to heat any bread or ceral. I am taking all my vitamins that have been given to me by my nutritionist. Is there anyone else having the same issues? I am trying to wene myself off of protein shakes but maybe it is still too soon. Does anyone have any thoughts that could help me? Thank you

Bariatric surgery should be compared to being pregnant!!! 1. My taste have changed not a good or bad thing 2. My belly feels like 80pounds 3. My moods are here and there 4. My cravings are outrageous 5. The worst is smells, they make me sooo nauseous Thought I'd put up how I have felt today bc it's been a trip of gas more gas and nausea. I didn't do anything out of ordinary but walk two times around the house and sip sip sip which I could have done to fast. Happy weekend y'all!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Banded 6/1/10. can't keep anything down!
kimba999 replied to kimba999's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks. Just a couple of hours ago, I started feeling some relief. I managed to slowly drink a small amount of Protein powder mixed in with about 3/4 cup of non-fat milk and nothing came up for over an hour and when it did, it was a small amount. For the last five days, I would drink a small sip of even Water or tea (I'm talking about less than a teaspoon) and I would get immediate painful pressure that radiated into my upper back and then up it would come. I think I've turned a corner and am very happy. I was getting depressed and worried about dehydration and dreading the idea of going back to the hospital for more IV fluids! -
To mee it doesn't taste too bad. I have Vanilla, chocolate and fruit flavored drinks....With the vanilla I am going to drop maybe 6 to 8 strawberries into it--make it into 12 ounces with some ice--But I am not too concerned on big time taste--we're only drinking 4-0z at first and down the line it'll be 6 ozs....With this amount--you have to just try it out. Maybe you'll like it. You do know we're not using sugar--so all of the sugar free items are going to be in play--try it...right at $15.65 for a jar that has 27 servings. That is basically 9 days...I am going to have me 3 Jars a month--since I already have 6 already.....So it will be ok for the time being. Getting between 75 to 100 grams per day. Then again--Look at GNC--their products are a bit higher--but we gotta do something....

Help, I am wasting away.
ElfiePoo replied to john47's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
John, After reading about people not getting their first fill for sometimes months but being required to eat what would fill you up with a smaller pouch (and obviously doesn't with our own stomach), I went to my doc because I know there's no way in hell I'll be able to do it. If I could, I wouldn't be getting the surgery in the first place! According to my doc, they do the first fill after 2-3 weeks once you're past the mushy stage and after any swelling goes down. Then they do future fills (until they get to restriction) on a 1-2 week schedule. He said most patients have their full fill (whatever that is that gets them to restriction) within 6 weeks without any problems. I'd *insist* on talking to your doctor and find out why it is so necessary that you starve yourself. . -

Swallowing Pills?
AbacoRaveness replied to Michelle Wolfe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am three weeks post-op and saw my surgeon for follow-up today. I asked him this very question. He said, a general rule is that if the pill is smaller than your pinkie finger nail, go ahead and swallow it. But, if its bigger, at least cut it into smaller pieces. I want to make it clear though that I have not had any trouble swallowing or keeping anything down, so your situation might be different. -
Congrats Luigismama! I'm only a few days ahead of you and the uncomfortableness and all that gets better each and everyday. Walking really helped me. I've been taking at least 3-4 per day at about 1/2- 1 1/2mi each and I really think it has helped my healing process. Sounds like you are doing great getting back into the swing of things. PS Can I borrow you're husband to install my a/c? This heat wave and the humidity is going to be killer (I'm in No. NJ).

:clap2: Yea!! I got my appt. set up today. They had a cancellation this Thursday and I got it. 3/9/2006 I'm excited and scared also. It helped me to throw back some candy that I had gotten out of the dish at school today. Can't wait!!

I am 3.5 weeks post op. I am being very careful with what I eat and have not had any desire to cheat at all. I am exercising about 3-4 times a week too. BUT, I find that I have a difficult time eating with my family. I tend to chew too quickly with them and I have a hard time just looking at the food they are eating. Im doing great with weight loss. Ive lost 30 pounds already. Have 100 to go. I get my first fill on May 23. But, I am having the worst problem feeling down about eating so differently and feeling so limited with the food that I am eating. Anyone else feel this way? :welldoneclap:

"Nouveau Fat"
Beachsprite replied to nomorechubbybutt63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sort of in the middle, I was a normal/little overweight up until 25, i'm 32 now, and morbidly obese, (i'm pre op but only one week to go!) So while it's only been 7 years for me i don't remember what it was like to be 'normal sized at all'. Mentally I've been fat all my life, i remember being self conscious at age 5 about how fat my legs were, so to myself I've always been fat, i'm a self fulfilling prophecy I guess. I look back at pics from my early twenties and think ugh! there was nothing wrong with you you looked great! - yet i didn't see it at the time. So I have no memory of being normal sized only photographs that I can look back on and realise what i didn't see then. -
I was wondering about the same thing. I will be a week post op on friday and still experiencing a lot of pain in my stomach from drinking fluids. I glad to see that eventually it will go away.
