    Need To Step It Up!

Im lucky that they have just open a group for " the large girls" of the village where i live at the small studio here. The girls meet 2 times a week and do something different each lesson. All the lessons are especially for us- nothing too stressful. Always fun and a good laugh - and we are all beginners which make everyone feel comfortable. Yesterday we had a "drums alive" lesson which is drumming on large balls and stepping around it. I think i brunt more calories from laughing.!!
  3. June 10th - a GREAT day, my three year anniversary!!! Congrats to you and welcome to the loser's side!! You are fine, I lost 17 lbs my first month, I never lost that much again in one month. I'm not sure if I lost 10 lb in a month after that first time. It's ok, I did EVERYTHING I was suppose to do, and nothing I shouldn't. I knew I'd lose, and I did. I lost 23 lbs prior to surgery and the rest in the six months following. I reached MY goal in Dec 2010 with a total loss of 85 lbs. You will be shocked at what you're going to be experiencing a year from now, I promise you!!! It's a wild, wild ride, hold on and enjoy every single part of it......wait till you can see your collar bone, then your hip bones. YES, we do have hip bones!!!! Yay!!! Wait till your clothes are practically falling off of you. Wait until shopping is FUN!!!! Go walk the mall and window shop, get a feel for your "style" - it will be totally different than it is now!!! Wait until someone says you are tiny, small....even skinny!!! It is interesting to meet people who didn't know the "old" you and they comment on how small you are......the first time I looked behind me to see if this sales lady was speaking to someone else!!! I'm serious!!! The fat girl inside me giggled!!! This is fun.....it's all new. It's going to happen. I weigh every single morning, without fail. If I'm at home, I weigh. No way will I let five pounds sneak up on me, and I KNOW for a fact that I can gain five pounds in a week. It's happened to me all of my adult life!! I pay close attention to what is going on. The scale is part of my "dashboard", I count on it, my food scale and my fitness pal to keep everything in check....just like the dashboard in my truck lets me know what's going on under the hood!! See what I mean??!!! Take this time to make changes, make some of these things your new normal.....as natural to you as breathing, that's what I did!!! Good luck, you're going to do great!
  4. I has the same co morbidities and 3 weeks post I no longer snore and now I need to cut my losartin in half as my BP is way down. Good luck !
  5. If your friend needs to get financing, have her check out the patient facilitator service called Belite Weight. The have in house financing with $2500 to $3500 down and then $200 a month after that. Their main doctor in Mexico is extremely reputable, Dr. Jose Rodriguez and he performs surgeries in Juarez and Tijuana. The owner of Belite Weight is also a previous patient and the majority of the facilitators are patients. They are extremely helpful and will take care of everything! I am using them and a lot of people I have met through forums have used them and I will be leave in a week and a half for my sleeve with Dr. Rod in Mexico.
  6. this is very premature but ive been thinking i want to do it. SInce i have been on liquids 3 weeks and i have essentially detoxed my body of everything i have been thinking about going organic once i can eat solid food again. Organic does seem to be the newest craze out there and i wasnt very fond of it in the beginning. obviously i cant go entirely organic but for the most part i want too do everything in my power to follow it. Since im starting fresh i think that this is another positive change in my life. I want to stay as healthy as possible from now on. Any suggestions??
  7. God's Grace

    Should I Go Organic?

I am 7 weeks post op and am eating almost all organic when I can. :-). It started with milk because I love it but couldn't drink a gallon or even half gallon before it expired.

    Palpitations

I am 10 days post op today..and for the past few days been experiencing heart palpitations. I did consult with my pcp today and since i have hypothyroidism she did lots of blood work and my tsh came back very low meaning i'm getting way to much synthroid. So she is thinking this is the reason why for the palps has anyone else had them?? She did lower the dose and i can't wait to see if this stops the problem. On the good side of things my cholesterol and triglycerides where all in normal range!! Ive been on medication for both for the past 8 years and I quit taking them the past 8 weeks since I have been watching and also down a total of 50 pounds since starting the 6 month program.. 30 pounds the first 6 months and the past 3 weeks another 20 so thats the positive side!! Still a few days away from soft food but can't wait to "eat" instead of drink... have a great week!!

    I'm so angry with myself...

Don't get discouraged so soon. I'm 3 1/2 years post banding and I still am learning! Some folks take a long time to get to proper restriction, and until you do, its really willpower...a diet. Try to follow your surgeons advice as best you can. Try slowing down your eating, chewing really well. Maybe hiding that scale for a couple of weeks is a good idea for you. I promise, this band does work! It takes a while for some, like me. You really can do this....never, ever give up!
  10. For u I would definitely say 6 weeks, so u don't strain or pull anything. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
  11. I'm 6 weeks post-op and feel nauseated morning to night Was hoping it was temporary but like you just want to feel normal again! Keep us posted
  12. Not sure if this needs to be addressed or not, but... yesterday around 4pm, I ate 1/2 chicken breast (just the meat) from Wendy's. It was too dry, so I chunked the rest. Around 5ish I started feeling the urge to pb. I did - about 4 times in total... finally got rid of that dry chicken. Yuck! About an hour later, I drank 2 cups of my Int. coffee - eveything seemed fine. Later, I started feeling some discomfort, so I went to Walmart and picked up some prilosec... (Ive havent taken it for about a week, checking to see if I still needed it) I also bought a box of Cheese-It Hot N Spicy crackers and ate a handful on the way home. *I KNEW this was a mistake, but I was starving!* THEN the drama begins... when I went to bed, I felt this burning feeling in my throat - like heartburn (since banding, Ive had reflux, but never heartburn - does that make sense?) I took my prilosec and dozed off. Around 1am I woke up with the most horrible *strong* burning pain in my throat/heart area - much worse then just the reflux. My mouth was even salivating - like I needed to vomit (not pb)... this was painful! I kept coughing, like i had something caught in my throat. FINALLY, I drank a little Water and it seemed to 'cool' things off. This was a new experience for me... the burning pain, "feeling like something is caught" feeling. And I kept burping those darn spicy crackers.... maybe it was the 'tobasco' in those crackers that cause this level of pain?! Thismorning my throat area STILL feels a discomfort... a dull ache. Mostly when I take a deep breath. Im wondering if I should call my doctor - just to get their opinion... Or maybe I should just 'wait and see'??? **Leatha, I thought I remembered you saying that you take prilosec everyday - and if you skip a few days, your tummy starts acting up... please refresh my memory regarding this**

    New Goal Setting for Summer

Sleeve - first let me say I am sorry for your loss. You have a great attitude and you are right, it will happen. My husband's birthday is July 26th. By that date I would like to be down 12 1/2 lbs (I have 25 to lose to get to goal). To accomplish this: I will - 1) train for a 5K - signed up for a couch to 5 K class that starts this Thursday. 2) work with a personal trainer (signed up for 5 weeks of training) 3) continue to follow my current eating regimen of 70+ g Protein, 60+ oz of Water, calories in the 800-1000 range AND 4) take a Strong Woman class (10 weeks) This is SO do-able for us!!

    I screwed up!

Are you throwing up, in pain or running a fever? If so , call your Doctor ASAP if not, your probably fine. But if your really concerned you should call your Doctor. Your body is healing, and needs to rest. Walking the first week is probably all the exercise you need, Wait six weeks for anything strenuous.

    Back To Work Question ?

My surgeon said 6-8 weeks for most folks is the best for healing. I know desk job folks (like me) feel pretty good at 3 weeks but, for me I ended up with an incision infection then an infection in my bowel due to the antibiotics for the first infection. UNREAL! Took me 6.5 weeks to get back to work and I can tell you my first week back was rough. Not pain wise but, trying to get all the liquid and Protein in and I was light headed sometimes. I'm far from a wuss! Can take a lot of pain but, my surgery kicked my butt with the infection issues.

    Hair Loss :-(

I'm three years out almost and still lose hair. I take biotin and it has helped some but not much. I think it all depends and trust me my hair is already thin lol so it makes me sad to see how much I really lose.

    Chicken for lunches

Yum!!! I always cook two-three birds side by side at a time. Easier, time efficient and when Son #1 is home, we go through 2 birds for a dinner. I miss that boy... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op and am in the pureed stage. I'm looking ahead at the solid foods stage and meal plan from my doctor, and this seems like a lot of food in terms of the stomach is only 4-6 ounces in size, but each meal seems like it is more than 4-6 ounces. Does the stomach eventually tolerate this amount of food after a while? Breakfast - 1/2 small banana, 2 egg whites, 1 slice whole wheat toast, 1 tsp margarine lunch - 3 ounces tuna, 1 tbsp light mayo, 3 saltines, 1/2 orange dinner - 3 ounces fish, 1/4 cup cooked carrots, small baked potato, 1 tsp margarine Each meal just seems like it is more than the size of the sleeve. Thoughts?
  21. Just wondering i anyone noticed a big decrease in their loss at this point? I lost quite quickly in the begining, but now have slowed to about a pound a week. Im know this isnt' a race, and Im still grateful for loosing, but I was just looking for your experience and any tips you guys might have! Thanks:)
  22. I am 4 weeks post op (2/17/14). Today is my own personal weigh in day. I lost a pound in a week. One lousy, measly pound. But I feel great. My body is changing daily. My clothes don't fit and I look like a slob. But the weight is not coming off as quickly as I thought it would. Am I getting in enough Protein? Yes. Most days I hit 60 grams with no problem. There was only 1 day that I didn't do that. My caloric intake most days is between 700 and 900. Am I exercising? 3 days a week. Am I getting enough Water in? No, I am definitely not. i am having a hard time on that, and I have been really focusing on getting that in, and that it's just water. Anyone else having a similar issue? Any suggestions on how to make that damn scale move?!?

    Breakfast of Champions

Okay, I know I'm not the only one eating non-breakfast food for Breakfast. Let's hear what your breakfasts look like post WLS and what type of WLS you had. I was banded 12 weeks ago. Today I had a cup of coffee followed by a cup of turkey cranberry salad. Yesterday I had a Greek lamb meatball. Loving this crazy life!
