Thats one of the single worst aspects of the laproscopic surgery is that they blow you up like a baloon... Took about a week for me for the air to disipate ... was very uncomfortable at times ...walking helps a lot .. . hope it settles

Hi everyone. This is my first post. I was banded on 5/23/06 - everything went great. The only issue I am having is my stomach is Greatly distended. I am on the verge of looking like an ethiopian kid in some TV ad for sponsoring the children. My stomach was rather flat before (believe it or not) and it really poofs out ALOT now and is rather hard to the touch. It is very uncomfortable. I have had a few bowel movements so that is not the problem. Anyone else have this?? The nurse said some people get this and it can last a few weeks... ugh

I'll weigh in (ha ha) since we have the same doctor! Go JourneyLite! How do you like it there? Anyway, the scale there was always within 1.5 pounds of my home scale, usually higher because at home I weigh first thing in the morning in my underwear. My gym scale is 6-7 pounds LESS than home scale and I was hoping to go with that but last week I went to my PCP and their scale agreed with mine. Dangit! I'd say if the number doesn't change at all for a while or you see sharp increases or decreases then you might want to change the battery. I don't think you need a whole new scale. Or try a third one at the gym or friend's house to be the tie breaker, that's kinda what the PCP scale did for me.

I was sleeved June 25th, 3 weeks ago today! Are you having surgery there or at Jewish? Let me know if you need any tips or pointers about the process. I had been going there for 5 months for the Adipex program to lose weight pre-op and I still felt a little unprepared for the surgery. JourneyLite is so separate from Dr.C's office and Fast Track. I had no idea what to expect.

Basically a stall is where you don't lose any weight at all for a while. Could be a week, could be several weeks, could even be a month. But usually it seems to be a week or so. Every body will have their own pattern. The trick is to be more diligent with keeping a food journal, eating your protein, drinking a lot of water, and getting exercise. And then, at some point, you automatically drop like 5 pounds! It can happen a lot. Whenever it does, just get refocused on what you are doing, stop weighing yourself so much and focus on following the plan and being healthy. And don't get down when you are at a stall. THough that is easier said than done!!!!

Exactly! Why won't they LISTEN! Maybe we'll see it someday???? I agree with the counselling - if we're paying for it from Tax dollars the people who have surgery should be accountable. We're all living proof that the band works but as Gaffer says his mom knows of 2 who are abusing it. Ok I have to get off the soap box and go get lab work done. Defill coming next Thur (15th) - can't come too soon. Hugs. Have a great week! -
OK, odd question! I got banded 8 weeks ago, all going well, and I've got back into kickboxing for exercise. But a good friend has just started a grappling class, and is raving about it. I'd love to take part, but I'm worried about the port - namely if there is 'grinding' contact, can that cause problems? There is a lot of force involved when I grapple with 'the big guys' and I worry about the port getting shifted about a bit So has anyone gone back to wrestling/judo/bjj post op?

So i was banded 4/25/12 and i only lost 39lbs I had my first fill of 1 cc almost 2 months ago and I only lost 1/2 lbs since , It's mainly due to stress . So today I started back on a liquid diet just for the rest of this week to get me back on track. Hopefully the scale will move from the 280's to the 270's

My surgery is in 3 weeks and I keep reading and hearing about shrinking your liver. What things can I do now, with just 3 weeks left to get ready. I mean as far as shrinking my liver, and I drink cokes really bad and know if I don't stop them now I risk the bad headaches after surgery stopping them suddenly. Any advice you can give me I would appreciate. I've gotten most every thing on the list to buy but what about my eating and liver. Thank you everyone for all of your help, Sherri

Well its been a month since I last post on my blog. I'm still not losing and its still my fault. At least I'm not as fat as I was when I started this journey. I hate to think where I would be without the band. I leave in two weeks for vacation. I wanted to lose 30lbs, but I have lost maybe 5lbs. I guess I just don't want it that bad. I know all the reasons I should do it, but I just don't do it. I eat all the wrong things. I have so much trouble with the good stuff that I fine myself eating all the wrong stuff. The wrong stuff just goes down easier. Oh well I haven't given up completely yet. I will try to do better each day,but no promises either.

You just have to watch your carbs with Protein shakes. I have seen some pretty descents ones that like 30+ grams of protein and only 5 grams of carbs. After the 2 weeks of semi-liquid and week after surgery (sleeve on 09/11) I would rather try to chew my protein in the form of chicken or turkey than drink it but I still have a shake in the afternoons to make sure I am getting the minerals and vitimans.

I was able to move to soft foods last week, and I was so afraid. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one! I'm still afraid to try chicken breasts, but I have had some thinly sliced deli turkey breast, and that has gone down easily without a problem. I'm chewing a lot, and so far, I've managed to avoid any painful episodes.

Will this be a promblem?
smacbeth replied to honeydue28's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was wondering about this too, my son will be 6 months July 8th, and I'm set to have surgery July 27th. My doctor said to wait 6 months after child birth to have surgery... my concern is the lifting him... I'm a single mom and i think its going to be hard to get around with him. Luckly, his dad is taking him for a week post op so I can have some time to heal baby free -
The struggle is real 😱 hello everyone I am on my 4 day of a 2 week pre-op liquid diet and I am running out of ways to make chicken broth taste good lol....

After this last fill, WOW what a difference. I can't believe it. I am less hungry. I am making better food choices just like my surgeon said I would and I am losing weight. I am now down to 25 lbs lost. I really feel it now. My clothes are falling off. I started on the Unjury protein powder at least once a day. I have one scoop in plain yogart. It is ok. Not great wonderful, but ok. I am working out 2 to 3 times per week. I can't believe what a change after this last fill. I am now at 3.75 cc in my 10 cc band. I go back in 2 weeks for a weigh in and another fill. Maybe just a small 0.25 cc is needed to get me to 4 cc. I can't imagine more than that. My body is changing and it feels wonderful. I am learning to play nice with the band.....

I really need help deciding!
ParrotheadCathy replied to skinnydesires's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I first contemplated bypass surgery. In the end, the decision maker for me was the complications rate. Bypass surgery has a 10% complications rate that includes some serious complications like malnutrition and death. The lap band has only .01% complication rate and those complications are usually fairly minor (slippage, which can sometimes be corrected by going back to a liquid diet, for example). Then, the recovery rate for bypass is a couple of weeks at best and can take longer. Lap band is nothing near that. While you may be tender, experience gas, etc., you can return to your normal life within days. I had surgery on Tuesday and went back to work on Friday -- yes, I have a sit-down job, but I'm betting you probably do too. With bypass, eating sweets can trigger dumping syndrome, which I hear can be pretty awful. I ate a bite of birthday cake yesterday, frosting and all, and it didn't make a bit of difference. And one other thing is that lap band is aiming for 1-2 pounds per week weight loss, which isn't crzy fast and is less likely to leave you with a lot of loose skin; not so for bypass surgery. So now you know what helped me make my decision. -
encouragement and support wanted please!

I know what you mean. Everyday I have to just make myself get up and do something! Once I get going for about 2 weeks, I love the enegy I have and keep it up. I am 2 days into working out and already feel extra energy. It is good to keep yourself accountable to people on this board. I have people on 3 threads keeping me accountable and I can't lie!! So, it has helped me! -
I was banded July 9th. I have lost about 15 pounds. I can tell I am loosing inches, but it's pretty depressing when the scales want move. I can eat pretty much anything also. I just have to remember to eat slowly and in small portions. I really don't get enough protein though, it takes so long to chew it up good and then I get full really fast on meat. I try to eat eggs often. and also cheese. I have not been exercising. I have really bad joints but that's no excuse, I need some motivation. But I don't think they sell that in a bottle. Keep me posted. We were on vacation for several weeks and I had so much catching up to do at work I haven't been visiting the forum.

Hi, there when did you have your surgery? How many fills have you had? I've only had 1 fill, and it's been 2 weeks since the fill and I can still eat anything, and don't have much restriction either. I had surgery on April 15th and my first fill was June 15th, I'm schedule to go for my second fill on August 24th, but I might be going earlier if theres still no restriction. From what I hear reading on the site is that is usually takes a couple of weeks for the fill to kick in, so I'm going to see how it does mid July.... Get some exercise in if you're not exercising. .. Be encourage dont' give up..
