  1. I will have had my band 2 weeks this monday,,,,yay puree! can't wait! lol...I had pain, pulling, tightness, tingling, and numbess at my port site. It gets a little better everyday. I was so concerned, it seemed everyone on here felt 'great' after 2 to 5 days...I was panicked too! My Dr said some people heal slower than others. For some reason, the last 2 days (still same symptoms, but much less) I am feeling MUCH better. Anyway, sounds normal, don't panic, and good luck!!!
  2. Well like my title says I take full blame and responsibility. This week has not been a good week with the lost of my husband's grandmother. I has brought back memories of losing my grandmother and mother and great grandmother. With that being said I fell off the wagon for the past two days. I know what I did and what I have to do to make things right. Was just a depressed and it happens. I'm feeling a lot better and will be seeing my personal trainer first thing tomorrow morning. Plus I will get a fill on Tuesday. I hope everyone enjoy the rest of there day!

    A glass of wine?

I probably waited a couple of months after surgery, but you say you have been cleared. I also have a glass or two, a couple of times a week. I work rotating shiftwork and quite often will have a nice 6am, "bedtime" drink. I never noticed any difference in how alcohol affected me pre or post banding, but as many people say, it does affect them differently. Go slow until you see how it affects you. Its still the same amount of alcohol as it was pre banding. As you can see from below, calories can add up...and no protein in wine, so have some cheese with it. Calories A typical 3.5-oz. glass of Cabernet Sauvignon wine contains a total of 88 calories, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Alcohol makes up 77 calories within the serving and 11 calories come from carbohydrates. No appreciable amounts of proteins or fats are within the wine. Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/312718-calories-in-cabernet-sauvignon-wine/#ixzz2Onla0wd9

    Introduction

I dont really "track" my protein with any consistency. Now I do put everything I eat in MyFitnessPal so it does get tracked techincally, but I dont look at the protein number usually just the calories. I'll start looking at the protein figures I think Im supposed to have between 60-80 grams a day. Let me go back and see how many times Ive met my goal in the past 2 weeks. Thanks so much for the tip!

    Weigh In 6-11-13

Welp, the scale said 248 this morning .... SIGHHHHHHHHH. Ive posted the lap band rules in my cube in TWO places so I can see them all the time. I need to get them burned into my eyeballs thru repetition until I start making them a daily habit and lifestyle. I feel like I'm in bandster hell right now ... and I say that bc I have a time period between when I get my fill, and when I actually FEEL my fill (2-3 weeks) so right now even though I know I have a fill I still haven't started to feel that increase in restriction. It's been 11 days since my fill so maybe at the end of this week I start to feel some marked difference. In the meantime .. I'm hoping that this fill is what gets me back into the green zone (I was there once several months ago for a VERY short period of time - but I had to get an unfill due to acid reflux issues) ... and now Im trying to get back there. I'll keep posting my weight and comments as a hope to keep me accountable for what I'm doing and eating. I worked out this weekend, and I did P90x Plyometrics yesterday ... "maybe" the scale isnt moving but Im losing inches since Im working out <fingers crossed> Maybe I'll post some pics along this journey until my wedding for you guys.
  7. Ok....looking for hints. I am taking Celebrate Bariatric Vitamins. I am trying to get them all in but it's 13 pills a day and I am trying to find the right order to keep me from vomiting. It seems to be the Calcium I think that is making it horrible. They have a very "cleanser" type of smell that goes along with them. Any of you out there have any types/tips you would like to share on Vitamin taking? Because I know all surgeons can be different, my surgeon has me taking B12 three times weekly Vitamin D daily B complex with thiamine daily Calcium with D three times daily (thats 6 pills a day) Mulitvitamin (3 pills a day) the last is just my omeprazole which i may or may not keep taking--will find out friday. thanks
  8. Greeting fellow bandsters! I am 6 months post op and just had my 2nd fill. I had to search for another Doc. due to my surgeon having terrible aftercare services. Anyway, I just got my fill last week, and have been having SEVERE SALIVATING PROBLEMS AND GURGLING NOISES! These can be so embarrassing, as I have to go and spit in the sink or outside, or carry a cup to spit in. I can have 3-4 bites before filling full. Is this normal? Dont get me wrong... I am thrilled with my new weightloss, since losing 10 lbs in the last week. I was stuck and 40 lbs, and felt like a real failure for only losing this amount over 6 months. I am now at 50 and happy. Can anyone give me advice about my new symptoms? Are these abnormal, or will they just be a part of my new life? Thanks for your response! Take care ~ Bullit
  9. I could have done the beach, restaurant and club thing (no dancing), but the paintball would have been tough (at least the way we play)....maybe save that for the end of the 2 weeks. I was out shopping the day after surgery and walked a couple miles every day. I flew alone and then drove myself home 5 hours and plowed my driveway on days 3 and 4. Laid on the couch day 5. Ran errands, grocery shopping, haircut and laundry day 6. Back to work at a physical job day 7. I was tired, of course, but had no problems.

    Sick constantly!

I've had my band for 3 years. I'm not constantly sick. In fact, very seldom. It's only when I eat something that won't pass through easily, that balls up, like pasta or bread products, that I have problems. If it doesn't go through, I have to vomit it back up. My first fill doctor was a quack--I live in Eastern WA and had the surgery in Detroit, because that's where they accept Medicare and my military insurance for payment, so I came home and got a doctor who specializes in fills. He couldn't hit it, then did the fluroscope and insisted my port was turned or misplaced and that I had to go back to Detroit to have it surgically replaced. I did that at great expense (for my budget it was terrible) only to find out he simply missed the port and misread the fluroscope. It was perfectly positioned. They gave me a small fill in Detroit and and got a different doctor who actually does the surgery and he had no problem. He's so good that it only took 2 fills to get it right on. I feel like it's perfect, but there are simply some things that won't pass through the band and if I eat them, or don't chew food well enough, it comes back up. For example, in the last week it's happened once, when I tried to eat a hamburger. Hamburger buns are a no-no for me, but I did it anyway and then had to get rid of it. Otherwise, if I stick to what I know I can eat, it's fine. That very good doctor, who was on the ground floor of developing lap band procedures, is the one who explained that the vomiting is caused by food that gets stuck and triggers the gag mechanism. It feels awful when that happens. Pain, discomfort, and then I know what's going on. I think people have to accept that somethings are just not good to eat, but they don't want to deal with limitations. I could go back and have some saline solution removed so I could eat more, but that's the last thing i want to do. I can eat a lot if it's food that passes easily, but I want these restrictions on my former addictions. I can eat too much as it is. In 3 years I've only lost 60 lbs when the goal weight is twice that much, so I don't want to make it easier. I don't want to eat whatever I desire. Only what's healthy and filling. What gives me problems are exactly the foods I want to avoid but in the past lacked the will power to resist. Now, I don't have to rely on poor will power.
  11. Hi everyone..I have been having problems with keeping anything down for the past week. Ive been back to my doctor a few weeks ago because i was having alot of acid reflux. Especially at night and he suggested i take Prilosec which i have been but lately ive been unable to hold anything down to include water. I did have 1/2 cc of fluid removed at my last visit and for the first few weeks it was all well. I was able to sleep at night again! God that was great and now here i am back to square one..Im so tired of feeling this way. I just want to eat again. Any suggestions? Please help me if you know of anything i can do.

    Nausea

TopTier: Yes, I have the pills that are prescribed for every 6hrs and I have been taking them since the nausea started yesterday. However, they don't seem to be helping much. I should have mentioned this before, sorry. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better! It gives me some of hope that things will get better. Being a week out, I too, thought that I would be feeling better--and I was feeling great on day 4 post-op (which is why I find it bizarre that things took a turn for the worse on day 5). I'd love it if it was just gas build up, that would be a lot more reassuring. I suppose I'll continue to take the nausea meds. and hope things get better. Thanks for the reply!

    Not very educational.

I had my "education meeting" today. A mandatory meeting for to-be-banded folks that have a surgery date with my Dr. What a waste of time. 2.5 hours of an RN talking about everything I all ready know(mostly from LBTF). I guess the meeting is needed because one lady actually asked when will the band be removed? She was shocked when she heard it would be in her for life. She was the one who also asked how soon she could schedule the surgery "with this Dr." to remove all the extra skin ? I also met a lady in the Dr's office that has been banded for 4 years. What a downer she was. She said she hasn't really lost much weight and can eat "anything she wants". Well maybe thats the reason she hasn't lost anything. She pooh-poohed LBTF as a bunch of kooks. Said I should join her support group so she could teach me how to eat with the band. A- NO thankYou. On another journal (sunshine2) I found a link to www.livingafterwls.com that celebrates living after weight loss surgery. I love this site. They have a newsletter, recipes, and the neighborhood, which is alot like here. A great resource. I'm very psyched. This time in 2 weeks I will be banded!!!

Ive started my training for the Triathlon. Feels good to have a focus. Weight loss stalled. Haven't lost for the last week. I think it is because it has been hot here and I have been reaching for the juice. To many calories. I've been tired lately too. Perhaps because of the increased exercise. I think I will be hitting the pillow early tonight. TTFN
  15. First off, if you are still on pain meds, you won't be able to drive. I had my surgery on Wednesday, home on Friday, (although the doc told me I could leave Thursday if I wanted). My surgeon kept me out of work a minimum of two weeks. I am an accountant, so nothing strenuous. He said he prefers people stay out 3 weeks just to get used to the new way of eating. Also, I was having a difficult time getting enough fluids. My daughter is getting married next weekend and I'm returning to work after that.
  16. Yes, I was sick for 2 weeks. I even ran to Urgent Care, and my doctor was sure I had Montezuma's Revenge from the noises coming out of my belly. She tested me for every known bug, but I was fine. I was like that for 2 weeks with horrible "bathroom" issues. Horrible. Sunta, you had really bad vibes about surgery, so maybe you're just a little psychic! So far, your experience sounds just like mine, which was gross and miserable. I was a slowbie-newbie when it came to getting better, but I started feeling normal after 2 weeks.
  17. Take your pain meds on schedule. I tried to not take them, but by day 3 post op I felt like total crap and taking my meds throughout the next 2 days really helped. Trust us...you will feel back to normal in about a week. Take care.

    Internal flush/cleanser??

Here's my experience and opinion: DO NOT BUY via internet advertising. I did it for one that touted Oprah's endorsement. It's a scam. They charge your credit card lots of $$ even though it's a "free trial". Getting your $$ back takes a lot of time and frustration. Some of these same products are sold at health food and Vitamin stores. Also, I did try it for one week. Made absolutly no difference. Save yourself time and frustration!

Newbie here, full of questions :)

I had plication with Dr. Ortiz in August of last year. I am currently down 75 lbs. with about 30 more to go. I never vomited but was close a couple times. They do send you home with anti-nausea meds. They do get busy so if you have a date in mind you should set it soon. As far as the financing part , I just saw on BP that they are offering great deals through the website on surgery in Mexico. Looking at the costs, it would save you about$3,000.00 but you have to choose another surgeon at Jerusalem Hospital. He is top-rated though, so check that out before you commit to Ortiz. I personally was not impressed with him or the staff (Ortiz), but I didn't receive horrible care either. However, I did have complications at 2 months out. (Read my other posts if you are interested) I have no idea about the financing part. As far as your job goes, I needed about a month to be 100 percent, but went back to work at 2 weeks and had no problems, other than desperately needing a nap when I got home! It was so worth it for me, I know I would have been at my highest weight or even higher right now had I not had the procedure done. Good luck with your decision!
  20. Today was my first official Wednesday home weigh-in since revisiting my surgeon's office. My weekly goal is to lose two pounds each week. I identified my starting weight as 242; this week, I'm down six pounds and the scale is rewarding me with a weight of 236.4. Ordinarily, I would be ecstatic about a six-pound loss. However, I plan on keeping my excitement in check until I'm at or below my last known weight in January 2007 (224lbs) before I started slowly putting the weight back on. The thing is, I've been in the game long enough to know that you always have to ask yourself, "Six pounds of what -- water, fat or muscle?" I can't answer that question, but I can I do my part to work with my band and not against my band. So, I ensured that I drank at least the recommended amount of water and switched to Propel when I got tired of water, exercised at the gym, which included using the elliptical for 45 minutes to 1 hour and performing my standard series of weight training exercises, stuck very closely to the prescribed eating order of protein, vegetables and fruit, skipped meals when I wasn't hungry and last, but not least -- journaled to ensure a written record of my journey.

    Weigh-In: Wednesday, February 6, 2008

It's a little past 4:00 a.m. my time. I couldn't sleep, so I decided to get up and take my official Wednesday weight, which was 234.4. I actually peeked at 233 this week, but I ruined getting solidly to that number or past that number by eating too many carbs. After I pigged out on all the carbs at the end of January, I had a party challenge on Saturday, February 2nd. We had some neighbors from the old neighborhood bring their family over for dinner. We decided to prepare fajitas for the main portion of the meal, but I also made snacks to tide us over for the meal and to ensure that there were leftovers for at least Sunday's dinner. I wasn't disgusted with myself after the party. I had a small meal of brisket and beans earlier in the day. So, that held me pretty well. At the party, I tasted all the snacks I made and after I fixed everyone a quesadilla who wanted one, I made myself a very small plate of fajitas and beans. If I had to admit to going overboard on anything, it was probably the corn chips with guacamole and one to many oatmeal cookies. Other than that I did fine. Although I didn't enjoy a six-pound loss like I did the first week, I kept up with my exercises and ate decently for the other days of the week and still had the projected two-pound loss. I must lose 10 more pounds before I will reach my first major goal of 224, which was the lowest weight I remember reaching before I regained it all. I think I will make some homemade chili. I ate chili from Red Robin the first week and did pretty well. So, with homemade chili, I'm hoping to do even better.
  22. Delayed fills are completely normal. They happen for several reasons: when the fluid is put in it pushes fluid from the tubing into the band, and it takes a bit of time for that to distribute equally around the band when fluid is put it it applies pressure to the stomach - even if it's just a tiny fill - and that causes a slight inflammatory reaction that builds as the body reacts placebo effect - you expect to feel a fill, you don't feel it immediately, you subconsciously eat a little less to see if it helps, it doesn't so you go back to eating normal but oops the fill really did take so you feel tighter a week or more later The last sounds ridiculous but it happens. Your body will react to how you feel. Just know that each fill does impact you - even if only a tiny bit - and when you're talking about a hole the size of a dime, that tiny bit can be a lot.

    Just not interested!

I was sleeved on the 14th Jan this year, first 2 weeks fabulous no complaints, then week 3 got really sick, surgeon ran blood tests found out i was in acute renal failure, due to my bp meds and reflux med causing a toxic reaction through my body, if it was left a couple more days would have been on dialysis for 6 months. Then the nauseastarted, no med tablet would make it subside so dealing with that for the next month. All this time dealing with chronic reflux ( 5 different meds and nothing worked), all of which also gave me diarrhea and bad abdominal pains, still suffering some reflux...something i never dealt with before. Not sleeping well at night is also contributing but have no idea why every morning i wake up feeling ill.In regards to hydration i have no choice but to drink all day as my kidneys still haven't recovered and after my last blood test the surgeons said they were worst than first thought, take my multi every day and try and get my protein in - now all is revealed why i am so unhappy....
  24. All of a sudden I'm having cramps on right side just below ribs. No new foods or anything. Anyone else experience this type of thing? My wife wants me to go to the ER but its not that bad, just uncomfortable.
