  1. My name is Allison and I am a pediatric nurse, wife and mother of one daughter. I began the lab-band journey about a year ago and Just now have my surgery date set for July 15. I am soooo excited. I am also very scared. I start my liquid pre-diet next week and I know it's important but just the thought of it nausseates me and makes my head hurt. I know I will get used to it, it's just the idea of it right now makes my stomach do flipflops. My surgeon is Dr. David Voellinger in Charlote, NC. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about him and I am superexcited to get this part over with. Yay!:blushing:

    Feeling Guilty

I'm actually in therapy right now. My insurance made me go & I ended up continuing to see her. I realize that without therapy I may not succeed. She is helping me recognize real hunger opposed to head hunger. And when I have a craving to let it pass. Also, what causes my cravings. Learning what a trigger is. And, I dont know what my triggers are yet, but I hope I find out within the next 2 weeks cause my surgery date is almost here.

    Swollen belly

I ended up wrapping myself in a binder and that helps greatly. Just don't sleep in it I just wish my second week was over already.....ugh I am losing weight rapidly, so that's good I lost 14 pounds in a week. But I cannot walk because I'm way too dizzy.
  4. Hello. I am 16 months post-op and 9 weeks pregnant. I refused to take the sugar drink that the doctors usually test you for gestational diabetes (GD) as was instructed by my surgeon. Now the doctors are having me take my blood twice a day for a week now, a week at 24 weeks and a week at 30 weeks. I have to take my blood when I am fasting for 8-10 hours and then again 2 hours after my biggest meal. I am having a problem with my sugar levels when I take my blood during the fasting part. The doc wants my sugar levels to be under 95 and so far I have tested over 95 everyday with the exception of one day where it was 88. When I test myself 2 hours after my biggest meal I always come in under the 125 that the doc wants me to be under. Has anyone else come across this issue with being over the target numbers? Has anyone else had or have GD? I'd love to hear about someone else's situation. ~Thanks!

    Uncooperative bowels

My bowls didn't start moving until 3 weeks post op. I was told to drink a lot of water and more protein.
  6. Hi @Dee2938 I know that's frustrating, especially because folks here seem to lose 10 lbs a week.... I would say you may be eating too many calories or perhaps carbs. i have always been calorie sensitive. Even at 300 plus pounds I ate 800 calories and less than 20 carbs to maintain that weight. I'm a week post op now but I typically don't go over 350 calories a day and stay under 20 carbs. Maybe try that and see if it works for you? Even with that diet I've only lost 6 lbs.... October 1 I weighed 284, October 9 I weigh 278. Not a big loss..... I'm a slow loser too......

    Disappointed

I had mine on Jan 31st. Scale hasn't moved the past two weeks. It is frustrating as I barely can eat. Eating is a chore. But no weight loss :/ I am not getting 60-80g of protein. Is this an issue?
  8. I cannot stand this liquid diet anymore!! I was on it 2 weeks pre-op and now 2 weeks post-op. I want food!! It is starting to make me very miserable and feeling depressed. I cannot wait til Tuesday when I begin my pureed diet for 2 weeks. I just hope that after a few days, I don't feel the same way. I just need to get through the next few days and time seems to be standing still, ughhh.

lyndynojo, why was your recovery so long? My surgeon said about 2 weeks. and what is this drain they put in?
  10. I am roughly 4 mo. 2 weeks Post Op and just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant. This will be our second child. I'm in shock I think. Selfishly I'm wondering will I loose weight during pregnancy (not that I want to), but for restrictive reasons?? Im scared that bc i cant eat much, will that harm the baby? Will I loose weight after the baby? Can I still drink my Protein drinks? Did I ruin my chances of ever getting rid of this weight? I still have 45 more to loose. Help!!! Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Cramping and vomiting

I had three different gallbladder tests which all came back normal. But we eventually removed the gallbladder anyway because nothing else seemed to make sense. The report back from pathology after it was removed was that my gallbladder showed signs of chronic inflammation, had stones (which didn't show up on the sono), and had a benign tumor inside. After having it removed the nausea and vomiting greatly improved. I am 6 months out and still have some "episodes" but nothing like before I had my gallbladder removed. The moral of my story is that "normal" gallbladder tests don't mean that there is nothing wrong with your gallbladder. I'm thankful that I had a doctor that was willing to believe me and my symptoms over the test results.

    Women monthly cycle

Mine skipped a month and then become irregular (6 weeks between). And... the duration pre surgery was 3-4 days and after surgery 8-9 days. So much I needed to take Iron supplement during the period. Now I am 8 months out and pretty much back to normal. 30 days between (this is my normal) and 4-5 days duration (much closer to 3-4). But the big difference - the amount..... and when I say amount.... I mean tampons were not working... needed tampon and pads every 1-2 hours. Sorry - I know TMI!!! but you asked

    Liquid diet

Is it accurate that you have only lost 4lbs on a liquid diet for 4 weeks or have you just not updated you ticker?

    IM SLEEVED!

Yah! Push the pain pump button IF you need it. We will never judge. I'm 3 weeks out and lost 24lbs. After the 1st week I missed chewing and swallowing. But after the 2nd week I could have baby foods and that made me happy. Now this week it's Fork soft foods. I have no regrets. I just have to remember to sip ALL THE TIME and walk. You're on your way. Yah!!!!!
  15. Hello all. I'm hoping that I can get some advice or at least confirmation that I'm not the only one having this issue. I had my RNY 7/21/16, so I'm about 8 weeks out. Im back on normal foods, theoretically, but the issue I've been having the last couple of weeks is that pretty much everything I eat makes me nauseous. I've tried everything. Grilled chicken, ground beef, chili, turkey, cheese, tuna, Beans. Nothing seems to sit well, and I'm at a point where I don't even want to eat because it's not worth being nauseous for the next hour. Even thinking about food just makes my stomach (or what's left of it) turn. The only things I seem to be able to tolerate are my Protein shakes and yogurt. And even those are iffy sometimes. Even though it's hard to believe I'm even thinking this, I'm just so tired of feeling like this that I don't even want to bother with food anymore. Is this normal? My NUT said it takes about 3 months for everything to settle down, but this constant sick feeling is driving me nuts. I did not/have not had any post op complications. Any advice on what I could eat or what I should do? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Constant sick feeling

Well - a few responses for you. First, I was nauseas for about 6 months. It was not fun. I took Zofran and it helped. You have to stay hydrated for Zofran to work. Ask your dr to prescribe it (the generic brand and preferably the one that dissolves under your tongue as it works faster). Second, you have to stay hydrated. (I wasn't great at that.) If you aren't hydrated, it can cause nausea. Now lastly, it could be that you have a stricture - which is what I ended up having and they found right at 3 months post-op. It is a complication that occurs typically between 8 and 12 weeks post-op. It is VERY easily fixed with a balloon dilation via an endoscopy. If you keep feeling nauseated and/or reach a point where you cannot keep stuff down (like I did), insist that your surgeon do something such as an endoscopy to see if there is a stricture. I'm sorry. I know you are miserable. It will get better. Just hang in there and stay after your dr.

    Constant sick feeling

Transitioning to solid foods such as chicken and steak can be difficult. I relied on softer foods such as chili and Soups. I have put some of my recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes.
  18. Im 4wks post op, and two weeks late, which is not normal for me so I was wondering if the surgery had anything to do with it?

    Condensed Protein Shake

Can't you count the water/fluid in your protein shakes. My first two weeks post op when I was on liquids I counted all my liquids toward my water total.
  21. I'm just curious as to what your rate of weight loss was after your surgery? I had my two week appt last Thursday and I was down 20lbs. HW: 437 SW: 376 RNY on 5/16/16
  22. Got my VSG on 12/23 and going through the normal gas issues while I chug along my two week full liquid diet. I'm actually nervous to eat food again! I want to make a lifestyle change and not just eat the same way I ate before. Not sure which direction to go... Any recommendations on eating philosophies?

    Stalled!!

I was loosing weight just fine until January. I have been toggling between 184-179 for the last 4 months. I don't know what to do. I have lost about 70 lbs since surgery and I am still about 25 lbs from goal weight. I understand that the weight loss is slower than normal. It's been 4 months and nothing. What am I doing wrong?????? I admit I am not drinking a lot of water, and I am snacking a bit on things I shouldn't but i think I am very confused when it comes to eating protein and veggies. My doctor says I need to eat everything that has 4 legs, and my mind says I will have end up skinny but with high cholesterol. Not a good thing. HELP!!

Tomorrow is 7 days since surgery

Yeah the incision pain is what I am left with too at 12 days post-op. I have learned to hold in/push in my tummy when I laugh, cought or sneeze. I have been able to sleep on my belly which is nice. I am not taking any pain meds either. I am just doing walking as my exercise. I also have pain if I pick up something or push something heavy. This is normal and I hope it goes away in the next 2 weeks before I go back to work in early November.

    Wish for more success

I almost a year out... I've lost 124 pounds total. 412 down to 289lbs. Stalls are normal and as someone else said, necessary. It's not always all about the scale... Sometimes you can see a change in inches when the scale doesn't move. I've gone from size 5x/6x shirts to a 2x/3x. 54 waist pants down to 46 waist. If your lifting weights that can also affect things... As you loose fat and it's replace with muscle, that affects the scale. The weight will come off... Just follow your doctor's orders and you will be fine. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App
