I totally agree with everyone. Getting the band was the best decision I have ever made. I'm three years post-op now and the weight loss has been slow, but I am ok with that. I'm 60 lbs lighter than I was three years ago!

Scared about pregnancy
june13sleever replied to mandynichole's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I am pretty chunky again at 9 months I have gained 60!!! Two more weeks to go!!! 39 weeks on Wednesday. I really hate this weight gain, but it seems like I have gained the most out of everyone!!! I can eat a lot more...but it doesn't justify 60!!! I will just have to see what happens after she comes out, but I am not stressing about the weight...I have a baby...my first on the way... Ummmmmm that is stressful enough!!!! -

Well went in after four weeks and lost another five pounds, so I finally hit the 50 pound mark! I was banded on June 11th and although there are times I get a bit discouraged if the scale doesn't move fast enough for me (I work out at the gym three to five days a week) I'm very pleased with this. I have a 14cc band and as of this afternoon now have 9.5 in the band. I'm at a very good restriction and the doctor even told me when I lose about another 50 pounds he will schedule me for surgery to get the extra skin removed from my stomach. I am 19 pounds away from Onederland and I can't wait!

The Chinese place near my work has 'diet delight' meals - plain rice, Chinese veggies, with chicken, beef, scallops, or shrimp (or a combination of these) with your choice of sauce on the side. A girl at work and I got it last week. I had a scallop, a shrimp, and a couple little chicken strips with some veggies, drizzled with a little Chinese hot sauce. It was good, just enough, and my friend didn't even miss the little I took!

You are going to be fine :-) I literally felt like so was killing myself once I got home from the hospital an wanted absolutely nothing to do with food or drinking. It was a chore for sure to drink and do anything. I cried a few times myself and wondered if I made a huge mistake. I was getting dehydrated because I couldn't drink much or just didn't want it. But I pushed through and did what I could. I was role for the first 2 weeks to not even stress about the protein it's basically impossible that early to get it all in cuz you are healing and swollen. Just rest and try your best to stay hydrated. I promise at 4 weeks it's a turning point for most. It was for me. Once I got passed purée food it was even better. Hang in tree and take it one day at a time one day I promise you will feel " normal" again.

My 1st Fill isn't going the way I wanted.....

Thanks for the reply! I didn't think about swelling. My band is 10cc empty and they put in 3cc's. I just feel sooooo icky. My first 6 weeks has been such a breeze that when this issue came up, it freaked me out a little. I guess it could be worse...I could be drooling! -
Hi everyone! I'm currently entering my 6th week post-op and have a question. My upper back has been very sore and tender the past 2 weeks. Some days are better than others. It doesn't keep me from any activities but it can be very aggravating at times. I went to my chiropractor a few times and today he told me that because I've lost some weight that my posture has probably improved and that my back muscles that were used to compensating for bad posture have to re-adjust because they do not have to work as hard and that they may be sore until they get used to working "normally". Do you think he might be right and has anyone else experienced this? Thanks, Chris

Mental Anguish over Decision

I have never been banded but I am in my 50's and walking with a cane due to hip issues. Three years ago I lost 130 pounds with WW and was mountain biking, running and weight lifting...living like crazy. Then my hip was injured and I ate to deal with the injury and limited mobility. Hip surgery followed but so did 80 pounds. Recently reinjured the hip ( likely due to the weight) and I am sure I will need surgery again. That was my last straw. I can't wait to have bypass surgery and have very little hesitation. I know I will either physically die from obesity or emotionally die from my inability to have the life I want. I am diving into this opportunity full force. I know I can be successful and that is half the battle. Whatever you decide I wish you the very very best. -

Nothing really. Everything went super smooth. Yeh, right! But I am sure glad that phase is over. Looking back it was all so silly. I did have a BMI above 40 and medical history showed it for the past two years. I had high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, issues with my joints requiring medical attention and sleep apnea. Six weeks post op and the first two are gone, my joints are 80% better due to the 42 lbs weight loss and tomorrow I will have a sleep study to remove the cpap or reduce the pressure. Things are looking up! Jump through all the hoops and you too will be successful. -
Definitely call, just to be safe. I could have written this post. I have the same issues with pain and vomiting meat. I have already had the testing done and I am healed, no issues. The surgeon says my new stomach is just extraordinarily sensitive and that it will likely resolve itself over the next several months. I am 10 weeks out from my Gastric bypass. I have been having a lot of GI problems over the last several month or so. The pain became unbearable this week, so I went to my dr and she thinks it's due to artificial sweetners. As I think about my diet, much of what I eat has these sweeteners in them. I will do anything to avoid the pain and bloating caused by the artificial sweetener, so I am looking for ideas on how to revamp my diet. I could care less about eliminating most of it, but I think I'm really worried about protein shakes because they are my go to item. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I too had trouble. I has gotten easier as the weeks go by. My goal is to try and get off the fake sugar too! I used to have trouble with "splenda" before surgery but I can tolerate it now and I am 8 weeks out. I had to take lactose pills before drinking the Protein. It was still hard to get them down early on. Wish you luck in finding the right thing for you. I have had to keep trying new things.

Yikes, I have gained weight - 1st time!
babbs3772 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As of June it will be two years since getting banded, for the first time I have gained weight -11lbs to be exact. I have never had this happen but I am not going to let it slide. I have an appointment in two weeks for a fill thankfully. I am refocusing on my diet and exercise - looking back to my old success from when I first got my band, I just need to take good look at what I have learned and reapply it once again  -
I'm trying to make better food choices this week while decide on which surgery I want and just trying to eat better right now... I already have issues with migraines but it seems as though I have cut carbs and I'm just eating chicken and a vegetable I am getting these really bad headaches everyday and I think my body truly depends on having some sugar and carbs.. does anyone have this or did you or when does it stop, ate a piece of toast w butter and maybe it's in my mind but I think it helped.... not have any sugar for 3 days is really I think that been shock to my system... carb thing in my head or do y'all think that this is possible to have headaches from not having a carb or sugar

Oh my, I could have written the same thing. You are describing exactly how I felt. Please know that you will feel much better very soon. The stapler site you're talking about hurt me for about 6 weeks, and one morning I woke up and the pain was gone. It was not unbearable pain, just annoying pain. The nausea went away before I left the hospital. I went home with a prescription medication for nausea, but didn't need it. I'm almost 5 months post-op and I've lost 70+ lbs, I feel wonderful and have no regrets at all. You will be fine!!!
