    May Sleevers! Almost there!

I'm also May 1st!! Just one more day of pre op. I've done well with it during the week but the weekend was challenging. I didn't do horrible, but I don't think I'll make the 10 pounds in a week mark :/ But my starting weight (November 27, 2012) was 304, and this morning I was 262, so if I don't lose a total of 10 this week I don't care Good luck everyone!

    Almost 5 months out

I lost weight rapidly the first seven months, then I stalled...now at a yr and a half I gained 10...I need to lose 20 to reach my goal weight of 140, I don't want to be a stick figure, at 118 id look like I was a stick figure
  3. I am soooo sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. I think most people go through a little of what you are experiencing. I had regrets for the first 6 months. I couldn't really talk about it with anyone because I didn't want people (friends and family) to say "I told you so!" When I spoke to my sugeon and NUT, they said part of it is the changes and mourning of food and part of it will be from changes in mood due to the sudden weight loss (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gastric-bypass/MY00825/METHOD=print). My best friend has bypass and she said she was depressed for about 12 month after having the surgery. Even though she looked great and lost 100+ lbs, she said it took her a long time to except the new eating life style. She really didn't have anyone who could relate to what she was going through because 10 years ago there weren't as many resources. For me, it was 6 months. When I finally got into a small shirt and 4 pants, I realized that I couldn't change the past...I couldn't undue what I have done...I can only go forward. It's now 9 months. I can't say that I don't feel bad every once in awhile but its not everyday any more. You have to remember this is a huge change for us. You are trying to re-learn how to eat and live healthy after years of bad habits, which is not easy but soon you will see the rewards. When you are feeling bad, try to think about the reasons why your did it in the first place and think about all the cool new things you are going to be able to do that you couldn't do before. In 6 months, your family and friends aren't going to recognize you. Blog about how you feel, if you don't have anyone close to talk too...believe me you are soooooo not alone.

Hate tracking food - now stalled

Here is a typical day for me: Meal #1: 1 scrambled egg with 1/2 piece of American Cheese and 2 oz of chicken breast Meal #2: 4 oz of cottage cheese with 1 T sugar-free strawberry preserves Meal #3: 3 oz of chicken breast, 1 string cheese, and 10 ParmCrisps Meal #4: 3 oz of salmon, 1 oz of green beans, and 10 ParmCrisps Meal #5: 3 oz of chicken breast, 1 oz of green beans, and 10 ParmCrisps Meal #6: 3 of oz hamburger steak (93% lean), 1 oz of green beans, and 10 ParmCrisps Meal #7: 3 oz of chicken breast, 1 string cheese, and 10 ParmCrisps Meal #8: 4 oz of cottage cheese with 1 T sugar-free strawberry preserves I have 32 oz of water between Meals 1 and 2 and between Meals 2 and 3, 16 oz of water between Meals 3 and 4, 16 oz of PowerAde Zero between Meals 4 and 5, and 8 oz of water mixed with 8 oz of PowerAde Zero between Meals 6 and 7 and after Meal 8. I allow for the 30 minutes before and after, so the whole thing takes about 12-14 hours each day.
  5. My gastric bypass surgery was on February 24th. I’ve been very sick since. Regurgitating all food I eat except liquids, within 5-10 minutes. When I try to eat, I eat one to two bites out of a kid spoon. At this point I’m starting to get malnourished. I can’t keep any food down at all, not even my protein shakes. My surgeon has suspicions that this may be a stricture. I go in on the 7th of April for an EGD to check. Has anyone else had any problems with a stricture? What was recovery like? Did it set you back at all?

  8. I had my RNY done on 8/10/15 and as of yesterday I am down 100 and feeling AMAZING!!! I only have about 45 more to go and my question is how does our body or system know it's time to stop losing more weight? It's coming off so fast it's almost scary not knowing if it's going to stop when I need it to?

    Another banded newbie

Your post was really interesting to me. I just got approved for surgery with Dr. Ganta yesterday, and am scheduled for surgery 12/27/10. I haven't been told the details on my preop expectations yet, Did he want you on a liquid diet, or just puree? How long? I've seen varying periods of time with different doctors. Did you go to North Austin Medical Center? How were they?
  11. I'm on the 18th also. It is going ok so far on the surgery prep.Day #3 of pre op diet... so far on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the hardest@ 1126am it's about a 4 right now... the day is still young, plus I have to attend a sponsor party later on...???? 12. I think we're talking about a couple different things here: Insurance approval, and medical team approval. Based upon my experience, I'm surprised that some people are able to go from 1st consultation to surgery in under 2 months. I guess certain medical organizations are more cautious and/or want to lay the groundwork for success. I was told up front that it would be at least 6 months before surgery would be scheduled, with regular consultations with dieticians, a full psych eval, and the requirement to lose X pounds prior to approval without any major re-gain, or I could be expelled from the program. My initial consult was in July of 2019. In January of 2020 I was medically approved (insurance approval only took a few weeks and the medical team handled the entire process; I never had one interaction with my insurance) and surgery scheduled for April of 2020. Covid unfortunately interrupted everything and my surgery was canceled as all elective surgery was put on hiatus. Trying to keep from gaining weight while being locked down, dealing with the stress of a societal implosion and unrest and the uncertainty of damned near everything, when being predisposed to stress eating was... uhh... "interesting". Then in June of 2020 things were put back on track for a mid-July surgery date.

    Clarity on "Stats"

I include my pre-op loss as well because I lost 30 pounds in 6 months and I worked my butt off to do that. Plus that's my total weight-loss from the day I entered the program to now. HW: 301 (July 2016) SW: 271 (12/30/16) CW: 188 (1/5/18- I'm currently bouncing again between 189-186) GW: 175 then reassess. I'm 5'10"- Size 10/12 in pants. M/L in sweats because I wear them bigger and S/M in tops depending on brand and cut.

    Depression after surgery

Im almost 10 months out. I learned to show up after the food is served with my family. Or not at all. But that’s a choice I was OK making, I’m not big on social gatherings to begin with. 🤷🏼‍♀️ In general though I can tell you many people experience post op depression including myself. But the way of addressing that is different for everyone so I’d also echo the therapist suggestion should you find it continuing on and on and even outside of food/family gatherings. Or a support group.
  16. I also had surgery the same day. About 10 days after the surgery I had terrible cramps, mostly when I peed. They were mostly in the uterus/ovary area, and I hadn't had cramps like that in years. Turns out I must have been ovulating. I just got my period yesterday. I went off the pill for surgery to reduce the risk for blood clots, so I think it's the surgery and being off the pill that gave me those weird cramps.
  17. Hi all, I am so glad I found this site as a place for support and resource from those who have been there done that! I am currently in my nasty protien crap phase and exercising daily, gotta love the wii fit! I was discouraged a little this am when the scales said I gained a 1/2 of pound. I am completly complient with my protien diet. I know that maybe it is from exercising and was wondering has this happend to anyone else in this phase?

    Pre-op diet

Hi, My surgery date is 9/16. I have been on the Pre-op Diet for 10 days. My surgeon requires 2-3 Protein drink per day with 2 high protein meals. I usually start my day with a shake on the way to work. Then at lunch eat a salad with some type of lean meat - and FF dressing. Then about 3:00 p.m. or so I have another Protein Drink. For dinner, I usually eat something grilled - like fish or chicken with a veggie (squash, green Beans, brocolli). Any veggie that is low in carbs. Portion control is important. Stick to whatever 1 serving size is. I have another shake later in the evening if I get hungry. I am using the EAS Advant drinks. You can get them in the grocery stores. They were approved by my surgeon. Eat Slow and chew well at mealtime. That will help get you ready for later in the post op diet. Every surgeon has different requirements. This Pre-op diet is not as restrictive as some. Good Luck, and I hope this helps.
  19. I'm not a very patient person and waiting on insurance approval is awful. Everything was submitted on 8/10 and today I contacted my surgeon's office and they said as of 8/23, it was still "pending". Really, how hard is it to say yes or no?? My surgeon's assistant said they usually respond in 2 weeks, but they can take as long as 4. The wait is driving me bonkers. What has been everyone elses experience when it took a while hearing back from insurance. Was it a good sign?

    How Much Weight Loss?

15 a month is more than great. I am 5 months out and lose about 10-15 a month. For month 1 and 2 I lost about 45 a month. It definitely is slowing down and getting much harder to lose as I get closer to goal. I am extrapolating that goal is going to be in about 4 months if I can continue at the 10 a month. I do definitely exercise much more now than I did even a month ago.
  21. I went back to work on day 6 and felt pretty good at that point. Felt completely normal by day 10.
  22. Hello everyone. I had my VSG on 10/24/13, which makes me a little over three weeks post. My problem is whenever I try to eat or drink, I can have really bad gas pains on my left side. It gets so severe that I can't breathe and sometimes I cry because of it. Anyone has suggestions on what to do to help?
  23. I'm 3 weeks post op and ate some sjreded meat today (ok per my doctor). 10 minutes later I felt really horrible, and the pain stuck around for about 10 minutes. I also did a lot of spitting and felt nauseated. Then I retched a few times, and ultimately threw up some clear goo. Should I be worried that I damaged my stomach or sleeve? This seemed a lot worse than just sliming. Has this happened to anyone else?

    Whats wrong with me ?

I'm in the same place! Twenty gone immediately post op (March 20th), then nothing. Have lost 10 inches, nothing to sneeze at though. BUT I cut out the protein shakes yesterday - dropped a pound today. The first pound in 4 weeks. I have read confliciting reports about OVER-doing protien - your body uses that, not fat stores for energy and to meet BMR. I also gave myself permission to eat like a real person. Healthy protein and veggies, good fats. So, we'll see. I have been feeling like a failure too. Hope that this direction is the right course and good luck!!
  25. Hi all I have not posted in quiet some time... busy... you know... but I am at 9 months and I thought I'd give an update. for all the challenges that this type of surgery can present (in my case pretty minor, a little extra skin, frustration over slow weight loss etc.) I would absolutly, hands down do it again. I was so scared at first. I remember I started crying in the elevator on the way up to surgery... just overwhelmed with the idea of permanantly altering my body. The people on this forum did soooo much to help me stay sane before and after. My biggest challenge has been that I am a slow looser. I "only" had 57 lbs to loose, so I expected to be at goal pretty fast. I think there were two months when I lost more than 10 lbs, but other than that its been pretty slow (relatively speaking, I could have never achieved this without surgery). A couple of months ago I was diagnosed with hypothyridism and have since started on meds. Although I feel better, I still only lost 2 lbs this month. I have 8 to go. It may take me 4 months to get there... but I guess I'll get there. Before surgery I was a binger. I would go on a super restrictive diet until I couldn't stand it... then binge on everything I could get my hands on. Yesterday, after doing my monthly weight in and discovering I had only lost 2lbs I slipped back into "bing" mode and had about 5 chips with queso and two Peanut Butter Cookies. The cookies make me kind of sick (I think I have a little dumping syndrome, which is probably for the best). That was all I was able to eat for the rest of the day. Granted... not the best way to deal with frustration (I'm really working on finding better coping skills and thats the first "binge" since surgery) but, if I'm going to binge 500 calories is a lot better than 5000 (not and exageration). If your considering surgery... don't let this put you off....most of you will loose much faster and if you do happen to be a slow looser, its a little frustrating, but eventually the weight comes off (I was considered low bmi pre-surgery, I think most people with higher bmi's loose at a much quicker pace). Although I am so happy about loosing the weight... I am most pleased with the psychological changes that have taken place. I have a sense of being satisfied most of the time now. Its not that I feel restricted to "only" eating small amounts of food, its that small amounts of food are emensly satisfying, much more so than huge amounts of food used to be. It's allowed me to let go of that constant focus on what I will eat next... what diet I will go on next etc. I feel like I can just live now. Bottom line.... I would do it again in an instant!!!!! I hope you are all doing well on your journey thanks for reading stacey
