  1. I'm three months post-surgery and I've been trying to avoid buying clothes because I've burned through three sizes so quickly. But my husband and I are traveling this month and I've been walking around NYC having to hitch my favorite--and only--jeans up. So I ducked into a store tonight, bought the next smallest size (12) and ... they are also too big on me. I haven't been in a 10 since high school. I haven't updated my weight because I've been away from my home scale now for three weeks. Can someone pinch me and tell me this is real. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  2. Had mine Nov 7th, had more downs than ups and have been placed on the liquid diet again. They are putting a camera down on Thursday to see what is wrong, I really struggle keeping any food inside me, 3oz would definitely be time to throw up. How are you getting on? Starving and angry!!

I can definitaley understand the hungry, angry feeling. I was banded on June 19th and went though about 10 days of hell. I was hungry after the 3rd day and was dreaming about food. I thought I made the biggest mistake of my life and wanted to rip it out of my stomach just so I could eat. I wanted pizza and brownies and food that I never cared to eat before. A little over a month out I feel 100% better and think of that time as rehabilitation. Once you have the hill climbed you only have and eaisier walk down hill. I promise you will overcome this and read back this post in a month or 2 and see how far you have come...

    Starving and angry!!

You really shouldn't be THAT hungry if you are getting in your protein and your fluids. There is no limit, as long as you are eating and drinking approved things, keep eating and drinking if you are still hungry. Starting the mushies too soon will affect your healing. I made sugar free Jello using a liquid Protein Drink as the "cold" water part, and ate two or three servings a day. Sugar free popsicles are awesome, especially if you miss sweets and chewing. Crystal light or Propel water to add some flavor to water, without sugar and calories. Add nectar Medical unflavored Protein powder to your chicken broth. Get 50-55 grams of protein in a day, your Vitamins and lots of fluids. Be creative with your options, and take it easy. Now is the time for healing, not really losing. The liquids part will be over soon, and scrambled eggs, yogurt and cottage cheese will never taste so good!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! My surgery was June 19. I just got through this, and you can, too!!!

    2nd fill

I just had my second fill. Im down 42lbs since being banded on December 10, 13. Im now at 6.5cc. I go back in a month. I think that this maybe my comfort zone. I will find out how well it works for me next month, but all in all I'm enjoying the new me:-)
  6. So today is my first time I feel normal, I had the vsg on 11/10. And today I was actually hungry! I'm still on liquids. I drank 4 bottles of water with no problem. Taking gulps and all during the day. I drank my protein shake which normally takes me 30-45 min, in 15 min. (That was dinner) I was able to drink another bottle of water after that. Now on my 5th bottle right now. Basically I'm feeling no stricture, I kinda feel hungry right now. It's weird. Everyday I'm able to drink and eat more, I know that's my stomach healing and not being so swollen. But I just want to make sure my ability to drink fast and a lot is ok. Cause we all know how the docs would tell you how hard it would be to get liquids in. Just a little advice or peace of mind would be much appreciated. Thanks ????
  7. I hope everyone's surgery has gone well now that the month is nearly over. I weighed myself today! OMG! I had a whole world of pain and regret the first few days, but today is the first day that I feel what everyone has been saying I will - It really is the best thing I have ever done! So on my 2 week pre-op diet I lost 25 pounds (crazy) and since surgery (9days ago) I have dropped another 10 pounds. Thats 35 pounds!!!!!!!!!!! wow! I have always been a fast loser though, its the putting it back on that gets me. Hopefully the sleeve will help with that. How is everyone doing?
  8. Good morning! I am S-Day -6 and am nervous like you! No idea what Ativan is, but if it is helping, that's fab! I just keep focussing on 10 days time... the op will be well and truly over, and hopefully the worst of the pain will be over. I keep looking through the 'difficult bit' to the joy beyond, when I start to get my life back! We are strong women, we can DO this! :blushing:
  9. Hi, I'm Stacey. I had my procedure done on Wednesday, 12/19. I am having trouble getting enough fluids in. I try to sip on my water, but things like Crystal Light just taste too sweet. And I don't like broth. What should I do?
  10. Have the sleep study done. I didn't think I had sleep apnea but I had severe apnea. Also they won't tell you but you might have to put on weight. I know that's insane but you're 5-10 lbs. too light. The deposit might be re-embursed if you don't meet the requirements, but do make sure of that before you pay!!

    My first post

Welcome! I'm relatively new too, and only two people responded to my newbie post, LOL, so I wanted to make sure and say hello! I am approved for insurance-covered surgery on August 19 (can't come soon enough!) and right now am trying very hard (very, very hard) to eat better and do daily exercise so I'm in the best shape I can be before the surgery. Feel free to contact me directly if you ever want to talk or need support! Congrats on starting the process!
  12. I know someone (one) who lost 65-70 pounds about 10 years ago and has maintained it since then.

    Feeling down

You are down over 50lbs and almost 16% body weight in less than 3 mo. That’s awesome! Also, I heard once that typically you go down a size every time you lose 10% of your weight. Keep up the great work! I get sleeves on March 12 and am anxiously counting down the days [emoji51]
  14. I’m having so many mixed thoughts swirling around my head. I hesitate to post this today. I am grateful for having gastric bypass to have the tool to combat metabolic disorders and inability to exercise due to disability (post exertional malaise) and I was at the point it was all or nothing. All my fight was getting me nowhere fast. I know I’ve come a long way, I’ve also paid a hefty price physically and am still dealing with many health challenges. But I also know my body could not carry the burden of all that weight. And I will do everything in my power to maintain the weight loss. i reached goal Sometime last month. I overshot it a little. Although based on my height of 5’ I’m within my goal range. I haven’t been actively trying to lose for a few weeks. I raised my calories somewhat but not drastically. I started out at 208lbs with a BMI of 40.6 and today am 102.4 and a BMI of 20. its Funny though, I write my weight on a calendar daily, and write Daily log of my weight, meals, calories and protein to Track and plan what I will eat the best I can based on what’s available in the fridge, freezer, pantry. I haven’t given solid thought to my progress, I’ve just taken it one moment at a time. My weight fluctuates slightly and that’s ok. Other things weigh on my mind though. I hesitate to call it a celebration when even my birthday this month went unmentioned and Covid-19 will be around for the foreseeable future. It’s not impacted my odd daily routines of living with lifelong chronic illness and disability. I’m homebound much of the time as is. It’s risky going to get groceries but a necessity. But It’s had more of an impact on healthcare. i Had an early one year follow up with my surgeon February 11 and discussed continuing severe pain and spasms in left side under ribs along with other symptoms along with my history of ulcers in the remnant stomach and small intestine, they said I needed a double balloon enteroscopy. But I had to see a different doctor for the test. I couldn’t get an appointment until March 12 to see that doctor, I asked if they could schedule the test since it takes a while but no I had to wait to see the doctor first, who of course ordered the test. Which was then scheduled for April 27. And what happened, of course no one called until the last minute and it was then canceled indefinitely. And I’m left in pain, I sent them a message and they tell me I could go to the ER to be evaluated. First of all how is that a good idea? And evaluated for what? That’s why I saw the doctor and he ordered the test (actually both doctors did) I’m at a loss as to what to do and meanwhile I’m just trying to move ahead. i don’t even want to discuss this. I’ve other health issues that I’ve been waiting months to deal with. My doctor gives me attitude. Even things are obviously a problem. I saw my general doctor February after waiting a few weeks. I had sudden severe pain just lightly touching the front of my throat. I had a thyroid ultrasound. I also saw an endocrinologist. I was supposed to go to the hospital for further tests. But this was cancelled indefinitely. I’ve also been having nosebleeds and I don’t know why ... but it’s all been put on hold and none of the doctors care to follow up. I have been making plans about having skin removal surgery. Since it’s the only thing I can manage to do right now. The excess sagging skin is very problematic especially my thighs. A thigh lift, and Having a Belt lipectomy/Butterfly lift to remove excess skin might also help benefit strengthening my core which I can’t do with exercise. I’ve been working on this with Hospital BC that is part of BariatricPal and they are so helpful in the process. I’m trying to think of it as a vacation in Mexico with benefits. I’ll need financing of course. I’m far away from rich. It’s a goal to have a body I haven’t as long as I can remember. I haven’t been this weight as long as I can remember either. I could never reach this goal on my own before even as hard as I tried with strict low carb and calorie counting. I only managed 124lbs and it didn’t stay there long. So taking that last step of getting rid of ugly sagging, rashy problematic skin feels like part of the journey to finish. A crazy thing in times like these. I’ll be pinching pennies as hard as I can. But part of me is determined. And also ... trying to ignore the rest. I had wanted to deal with the other health issues first but looks like that won’t happen so I’m going to try to roll with it and see what happens. maybe it’s dumb for me to write this. I don’t know anymore. I’m exhausted. But I think that I want others to know that if I can do this with my chronic illness and disability And despite how hard it has been for me ... that others can succeed and reach their weight loss goal.

    Insurance game

My insurance requires that I be enrolled in their weight loss program for 6 consecutive months prior to surgery. It was my coach with that program that set the goal to lose 10 pounds in 30 days. I talked to my patient advocate at the Dr's office and she advised me not to worry about it. She said that I should try to lose the weight but if I don't it shouldn't be a problem. She said the main thing is to lose weight and not gain. So I feel a little better about that. They are also trying to submit everything to my insurance now because I do have a large hiatal hernia that needs to be repaired. She said that most times in a case like mine the insurance will waive the entire waiting period. So here's to hoping!! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

Honey, we lose as fast as we're gonna lose. ((hugs)) But let's do the math. You've lost 40lbs in about 10 weeks. That is 4lbs per week which is WELL above the average of 3lbs/week. Congrats! You're a quick loser!!! Now stop comparing yourself to others! Cuz you're doing great Mamacita!!
  17. I did They said everything looked "normal". From my own research I believe the problem is Leptin. They dont know why some people have too much or too little but having surgery most certainly didn't "remove the hunger hormones" as is sometimes reported. I was absolutely starving the first few days right after surgery and remained starving the entire 10 day liquid diet post op. Most people say after a 2-3 days on a liquid diet you lose your hunger but for me it was torture. I'd give anything not to be plagued by constant hunger

    December

Finally got my approval from insurance. After finishing all my supervised diet visits and pre-op stuff in October, surgeon finally submitted me last Thursday 11/13/14 and I just heard it was approved today 11/18/14. Seemed like forever, especially considering my surgery date was set for 12/01/14-I was starting to freak out it'd go to medical review and push my date back. *Sigh* what a relief. It's actually happening now!!

    New clothes

I did. I bought about 10 new outfits on line. Just went with larges. Haven't even tried anything on yet.
  22. Good to hear that you found your "comfort zone" as far as your weight. I find that my body seems to settle in around a certain weight. I could probably really push it and lose another 10 pounds, but can stay with little extra effort right around 130. It's funny how our bodies know just what to do when we give them the chance.

    getting banded on March 19th

Hi All, My name is Lorinda. I am scheduled to be banded on March 21st. I have been on my pre-op diet since march 6th. I have lost about 8-10 pounds. my doctor wanted me to lose 10-15 pounds before surgery. I am scared if I don't lose the amount he asks he will cancel my procedure. however, I am so excited about my procedure. good luck to everyone. I look forward to hearing about all of the successes.
  24. Good morning Bandsters! I am going to my first Lap Band seminar today at NYU and I cant stop thinking about it...Ive been up since 5am just researching more lapband info. -So I have a question: Do you or the physician determine what your goal weight should be? What was your goal weight and how did you come to that conclusion that would be the sie you aimed for? I've been overweight and now obese so long......I have absolutely no concept of what my normal weight should be. Im currently 5'3 and a whopping 214lbs:eek:...the heaviest Ive ever been. Im thinking of my goal weight being 130.....appropriate for height/weight I guess. I remember being this size in my first year college and I was about a size 10. I dont want to be emaciated or bone skinny just healthy and fit. Ive reviewed a few height/weight charts and they all vary so Im unclear how to accurately determine where I should aim to be. Any feedback would be well appreciated:biggrin:!

    Hospital stay needs

as little as possible. travel toothbrush and paste some comfortable pj's if you hate hospitals gowns and well nothing else unless you are scheduled for more than a day. i slept most of day of surgery and spent the night walking in circles around the 3rd floor. and went home around 10 a.m. the next day after surgery so i needed nothing. Some people spend longer in hospital so needs might change. Also i am a guy and we just dont care what we look like or wear most of the time so there is that. LOL
