Acid Indigestion
BrightEyes77375 replied to Carlito965's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you refer to acid indigestion, does it feel like the hard, dull pain you would feel when a pill got stuck in your throat going down? That's what I'm feeling with certain food (anything besides pudding, yogurt, or soup). The pain I'm having isn't a burning sensation, but the type I've just described. Should I try taking something for acid indigestion? -
June 29th Bypass Surgery

It's crazy how different everyone's eating regimen is. Since I got home from the hospital I've been on a liquid diet which has consisted mostly of 1oz of something every 15 minutes but 2 of those have to be water or a water substitute and the other 2 can be something like: sf jello, sf pudding, soups (liquid or creamy no chunks), protein shakes, cream of wheat, malt-o-meal, yogurt, etc. Then when I see my doctor on my 2 week follow up he will let me know if I can start soft foods. Scrambled eggs here I come! ???? I can't complain though in 6 days I've lost 15 pounds. woohoo!! How are you doing on weight loss? -
Is it just watery or is a weird color ? Guys I keep going every hour doesn't matter if I've eaten something or not. My doctor told me to call tomorrow to make an appt for in a weeks time. I'm allowed puréed food already, but I barely find myself eating anything more than some yogurt or jello or a Popsicle or even laughing cow cheese. I feel so weak half of the day not sure what I'm doing wrong. Does anyone else have this issue ? I just made chicken with avacado puree and it's yummy, it's my first REAL meal. Also anyone having an issue with water ? I can't swallow it for nothing without it hurting.

Hi, I'm new here although I have been lurking a while. I think this is a fascinating thread. My husband and I have had this discussion a number of times. I was recently sleeved, and he is finishing up the process and hopes to have his done in December. Like Joe, above, we have had multiple discussions about food in the house. I do all of the shopping and cooking for the family and over our 18 years together have learned to be very careful about what I buy. (For example, no tubs of ice cream in our house! If I buy them, they get eaten late at night by my husband.) And he regularly asks me to hide certain foods from him, which I hate. While there isn't a lot of junk in our house at all, he will also eat multiple yogurts if they are in the refrigerator (for example.) He's working with a specific therapist for these issues before the surgery, of course…but I will be very curious to see how we do as a couple with our sleeves. The one thing I've noticed even though I'm very early on is that my compliance to this program is all on me, and if i get upset about what other people are eating or give me access to, I'm going to be a very lonely girl. Anyway, thanks for starting the thread.

Well, weighing myself this morning, 7 days out, and I am just over 15 pounds down. I know this won't continue, but I am wondering if this is a bad thing. I had expected 1-2 pounds a week, after I started to get fills and returned to the gym. I am just not feeling hungry right now, but I am eating and drinking as I was told I should. Saw the Doc yesterday and he though all was fine. He said I was feeling like I would at proper restriction. I am chalking this up to swelling. But, it does show what is possible for me. I am still on liquids, I had started pushing into thin Soups and yogurts three days out without issue. I was feeling cocky and tried a small sliver of roast beef, chewed the crap out of it in small nibbles, that seemed fine. I tried it again a few hours later with my Soup for dinner and shortly afterward I felt tightness in my abdomen like trapped gas and you all know what happened next. I had my first experience with PB or slime-ing (I don't know what the difference is, but that wasn't vomiting). Damn, that came up quick! Like a huge ball of snot at high velocity. Luckily, I was prepared with a wastebasket nearby. I don't think I could have handled that discretely in public. Definitely a disincentive! I feel great and have returned to work. I still think this is awesome. Cheers, Erick

KayCTheNewMe replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Had my sleeve one week ago today and feel great. Each day is getting better. I have no problems getting my fluids in, and mixing up my full fluids to keep it interesting with creamed Soups, yogurt, etc. Protein Shakes are getting easier to tolerate each day as well. On day of surgery, I was 283.1, and this morning I was 266.6! Looking forward to continuing the journey -

A normal day of food post op?
ms.sss replied to TrueNorth1's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
LOLOLzzz...I had to rack my brain to remember why I was doing that. Now I remember: I didn't usually eat until noon (was never a breakfast person, never was pre-op, and still am not), and I had to take 3 calcium pills a day, which had to be taken with something in my tum lest I get an upset stomach. Sooooo...for my morning dose, I scooped out a tsp of greek yogurt, buried my calcium pill in it and swallowed! Edit to add: soon after than I switched to the chocolate flavoured calcium chews so didn't have to do that anymore. They were like 10 cals each, but I decided to take the hit cuz they were delicious, lol. -
The protein cereal doesn't sound so good. I guess it will be oatmeal as usual. After surgery I don't like eggs too much. I have cooked them thinking I will eat them, and end up throwing them away. I am not, or ever been much of a yogurt eater. I am lactose intolerant, and have tried those, but I don't like it. I did end up buying the caramel flavored Fairlife Protein Shake (someone on here told me about it), and I do like that one. I have not tried the chocolate yet. Funny how our taste changes after surgery.

I am not exactly sure what caused the mental shift for me so I could start losing again... There were a few things. For weeks I was not losing. I had lost like 14 pounds in the pre-op, but after banding was barely losing. I was getting so discouraged and feeling so frustrated like so many are posting. I was questioning if this was going to work. I was on some days thinking I shouldn't have done it (missing being able to turn to food for boredom, if mad, if celebrating, if stressed, if sad, etc.) I was second guessing the financial end of it and the big loan I am now paying off. I was thinking- this is just not working- I will be fat forever. I realized I was trying to sneak some unhealthy foods in there more than I should- my first culprit was peanut butter cups. So I started increasing the protein at meals so I could last and not want to snack all the time between the meals. I get up at 4 in the morning- so I have a very long workday and don't get home until like 7 at night. So I do usually have a light yogurt for a snack in the afternoon so it will hold me over until I get home for dinner around 7 or later. I was not exercising which is one of the most important rules with the band. Finally I just had to give myself a talking too. My exercise physiologist in my banding program said that he always asks the successful banders how they did it. He said that without fail the key thing every one of them has said was, "I just decided I was going to do it." And that is what I did. I decided I was not going to live this way anymore. I paid to have this wonderful tool to assist me, and I was going to get my life back. I am not going to waste anymore time. I started exercising. I know all the execuses why we can't- I have used them all myself a million times. I decided no more excuses. The hard part is getting started and making it a habit. But once it become a habit- it is a lot easier. Because you start feeling so much better and noticing results which inspires you to keep going. Committ to yourself that you will do some sort of deliberate exercise every day. I have found exercise is really one of the biggest keys for me. Like for example the other day- I now am getting so I look forward to exercising. But the other night I had had such a busy day, I was tired, and I just wanted to sit on the couch and watch t.v. I told myself- I am going to get on the treadmill while watching t..v and atleast walk 20 minutes. I told myself- I can atleast devote 20 minutes out of my 24 hours to myself and reaching my goals. I did it and felt so happy I did afterwards. Just think of it like that- in 24 hours I am worth devoting that time to myself. I went through those weeks of feeling down and dealing with not having food to turn to anymore. I am finally started to really pay more attention to my emotions and when wanting to eat really thinking about if I am truly hungry or just wanting that emotional crutch. I have started doing other things when I know it is just my "mind" wanting to eat. I realized I was not drinking near enough water. It is amazing when you stay hydrated how you are not so hungry all the time. I feel all of your pain and was not losing and feeling all the same emotions until I started making these changes and the scale started moving. We all have stuggled with being fat and all the negatives it brings to our life. Let's not let that waste anymore of our time. Let's lose this weight and get the life we want and deserve. Like we have all been told- our band is a 'tool." It is not a magic pill. We have to work our tool through exercise, staying away from carbs as much as possible, not drinking our calories, learning to deal with our emotions in other ways than food, etc. Work the tool and it will take us to our goal!

i had my first fill last saturday, but i'm not sure if it's enough. i still feel hungry between meals some days, and i can eat 2 cups of foods at dinner. on the flip side, i'm tight in the morning and usually am only able to have a protein drink or some yogurt. and lunch is usually half a sandwich or some tuna and veggies. i find myself grazing all afternoon and some evenings too. should go in and get more?

Getting Banded Monday
lyndzileigh replied to DragonflyNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm fabulous. The only reason I am tho is because my doctor advances diets very fast. I'm on a full diet as of this Wednesday. I get my protein through Oikos yogurt, Stonyfield Farms makes it. There is 17g of protein in one 7 ounce cup. I eat two of those a day, and then a can of tuna and I'm good. The only thing is tho, you have to add a packet of Splenda or something...it's kinda nasty otherwise. -
Vitamin D deficient and anemic. Yikes
nymoosic replied to nymoosic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, they started me on a weekly Vitamin D supplement. Yogurt is very slow for me to go down. I can eat it for a snack over a period of 10-15 minutes or so, but not with a regular meal. -
Help building a WARNING - Worst Slider Foods List
Heather86 :o) replied to canuckpaisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Quaker mini rice cakes... Chobani 0% yogurts... Sensible Portions Ranch Veggie chips... I knew before I even tried the rice cakes and veggie chips that they would be sliders... I had been wanting something crunchy and they cured my craving for not many carbs. I've only had half a serving of either thing, but felt no restriction at all. I can eat a whole chobani yogurt in one sitting...not necessarily a bad thing, but something I didn't think I'd be able to do so soon out. Sorry for rambling, lol. -
Proper Meal size at 3 weeks
jhclikesshopping@gmail.com replied to thenewandbestme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi - sorry you feel unprepared. I can help you - I checked back to my food journals. At three weeks post surgery I was onto soft foods at this point. Amount - I was eating about 1/4 cup of food or 2 oz if I was weighing out my food. This was usually 3/4 of a scrambled egg, 2 oz of tuna (or 1 1/2 oz tuna and 1/2 oz of avocado) or 1/4 of Soup (but I only ate the contents - not the broth). Drank broth first then eat the food part later (after waiting about 15 minutes). If I was eating yogurt, I could never finish the cup container. I would usually do 1/3 - 1/2 at a time of yogurt. When I was eating right after surgery - you want to make sure you eat or drink - NEVER At the same time. Does not feel right. this is also when you need to learn what "full" feels like. . -

Sometimes a handful of peanuts Dinner: 3-4 oz chicken 5 days a wk , beef 1 day a wk or pork 1 day a wk. side of green vegetable with every meal. Never eat after dinner, if my family is eating dessert I will have a sugar free ice pop. I keep myself busy at night, my house is always spotless now lol, I've also taken up gardening, or I will go for a walk. I only watch tv for about an hour if that at night before I go to bed. I used to late night snack watching tv prior to surgery so now I stay away from it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
ShelterDog64 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@chycky Sounds like you're doing great! I laughed at the water/chicken/pee/yogurt/water/chicken thing...sometimes I feel like my entire diet is chicken, cheese, apples, coffee and sugar-free popsicles! Actually, that's what I ate today, along with one asparagus spears and 2 slices of boiled egg And I cleaned my closet out 2 weeks ago and got rid of virtually everything I owned. I took it all to our local thrift shop and donated it, minus some of the 'good' pieces that I gave to a friend who is planning to have WLS I was in a 16/1x when I had surgery and had been for a few years so I didn't have any 'skinny' clothes. I'm now proudly in 12/M and am rebuilding a wardrobe with end-of-season sales, etc. I've bought a couple of things in sizes 10 and 8, which BLOWS my mind, but if I lose another 50 lbs, I'll go down at least one more size, right? I wore a size 8 wedding dress and got pregnant 6 months later and have never gotten smaller than a 12 again. I'm with you in not holding on to anything big...I'm not going to make it comfortable to gain weight again. -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
Maggie143 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The other day I was craving so bad and had my first very serious hunger pains. I went over board and had 5 oz of yogurt I knew I shouldn't have but I couldn't help myself. I still don't feel good. I don't want a single thing to eat or drink and my stomach is sore. I am doing my best just to get my liquids in. My surgery was the 21st. 11 days in and I am so mad at myself. Something is going on with my leg as well. Thought I had a blood clot and went to get an ultrasound. No clot but I'm in pain. Feels like my vein is tearing out of my skin. I am a little miserable after doing so well. Anyone else cheat and what did you do to feel normal again? Also for those people going to 4th of July events - its our first holiday surrounded by social fooding. How will you handle that. I want to hear Tuesday when you get back to normal. -

The funny thing, is that the dr has had me on meats since day 6. I try EVERYTHING. I have had problems only with crab so far (or it was a coincidance) I can eat eggs, bacon, chicken, beef, cheese, turkey, cereal (dr said high fiber) he has me off shakes and yogurt, but I went back to yogurt because I NEED a little something for when nothing else works. 4 weeks Post Op Need Nutrition Advice
Lily2024 replied to ClarkRomulus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also not a fan of the pureed phase so I mostly stuck with Chobani zero greek yogurt, they have some really great flavors. I ate cottage cheese with some favorite pasta sauce. Tuna with mayo and pickle juice helped, chewed very well. Adding spices to things really helped also. Hopefully this will just be a phase for right now, maybe the dissonance between the brain and the stomach? My body tells me I need fuel, my stomach doesn't want any food, and my brain wants spicy indian food. It's getting easier. -
Its frustrating as i dont eat that much during day, i have a slim fast bar for breakfast & a coffee, protein shake for lunch & usually some grapes or strawberries, dinner is usually a calorie controlled ready meal or meat or chicken. Followed by a fat free yogurt x

For those of you that are having trouble with Protein shakes. I too find them making me feel ill post surgery. I have been using GENEPRO by Musclegen Research for over a week now and it has been great. I put it in almost everything. One tablespoon is 30 grams. So it is easy to get between 60 and 90 grams in a day. I've put it in cottage cheese, yogurt, Soup, mashed potatoes, almost everything! No taste whatsoever!! Seriously it's been great. It was recommended buy my nutritionist. I'm thankful she did. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
