    No more weight loss

Your questions are excellent. I am eating pretty much the same foods I ate before but much lesser quantity. I don't drink protein shakes anymore. Today for example, I ate a half of English muffin, a half macaroni and cheese smallfrozrn dinner and a pickle. I'm not doing very good but I think it's because when I was doing good, I stopped losing weight. I am not on any exercise program as I have a knee that is needing surgery. I have diabetes on insulin and am taking prednisone for PMR. I weigh about 170..at 5ft 3inches. I know insulin and prednisone is bad. Sent from my SM-N930V using the BariatricPal App My goodness. I'm so sorry you went through such a traumatizing ordeal. I hope you have a reputable, ethical attorney who can pursue the malpractice case. I think persevering with it is worthwhile, primarily for your own benefit, but also for future patients. Other patients might have had an excellent experience with this surgeon, but there could also be patients who've been unacceptably harmed but not wanted to invest the energy and everything else into pursuing legal action. My husband is a physician, and there's a surgeon at his hospital who'd made several critical mistakes with patients but still had a flippant attitude about it until he was sued for malpractice. At your weight you're going to lose at a slower pace than someone heavier. I started out at a lower BMI and lost very slowly, with several stalls along the way. I eventually made it to my goal. Prednisone can be frustratingly problematic for many people. I gained weight while taking it, and also felt aggressive and far more emotionally sensitive, which effected my decision-making. Concentrate on what you do have the ability to change, which is your food choices. Meal planning might be helpful, so that you're making decisions in advance rather than in the moment. If what you've listed above is how you typically eat now, it's problematic for a few reasons. You're consuming far too few calories, which can actually stall out your weight loss because your body goes into a self-preservation mode. It's also primarily carbs and insufficient in protein and vital nutrients. Frozen dinners tend to be packed with sodium, which also is a weight loss saboteur. They're fine every blue moon if you're in a pinch, but shouldn't be a staple. You don't need to eliminate all carbs from your diet, but you do want to reduce them, and more importantly you want to choose ones that offer more nutritional value. My dietician advised me to minimize the amount of "white foods" I eat - bread, rice, pasta, mayo, sugar. Have them very sparingly, rather than as the focal point of a meal. One exception is plain Greek yogurt from one of the brands that is high in protein and low in carbs. My favorite is Whole Food's brand - it has 23 grams of protein, 7 carbs, and a lovely, creamy taste. Fage is another good option. I'll have yogurt with a small serving of a fruit that is lower in carbs and higher in fiber, like raspberries, or blend it into a smoothie. My daily lunch when it's hot is to have a smoothie with yogurt, frozen fruit, and frozen kale (freezing it helps with the texture). The fruit masks the taste of the kale. The carbs are vitamin-rich, and are balanced with protein. You can also get carbs in through vegetables. I like crispbread, particularly Trader Joe's brand, because it can be used as a substitute for bread for making an open-face sandwich, and is low in carbs and has some fiber. Tracking your food through a free site like MyFitnessPal would help you to see how many calories, carbs, and protein you're getting in. I'd aim to increase your protein, and reduce your carbs to around 50-70 per day. See how you feel, and how it impacts your weight loss. If you're still not happy, you could try reducing your carbs more, and follow something like Atkins 40, which tends to be more sustainable than the really low-carb diets. As for exercising, have you ever tried Pilates? I was prescribed Pilates-based physical therapy after a serious car accident a few years ago, and it was fantastic. My mom has also been hugely benefitted from PT over the years for back and hip problems. Best wishes to you!
  2. Hi there, just a quick question. I'm 5 weeks post op from having the sleeve done. Developed a lactose intolerance when I started on my dairy, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese. Doing better if I take a lactose medication before I eat. But the last two weeks I'm constantly nauseated. If I eat, if I don't eat, and I have absolutely NO appetite. My tastebuds have changed and everything tastes awful. Has anyone experienced any of this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

@@chycky Sounds like you're doing great! I laughed at the water/chicken/pee/yogurt/water/chicken thing...sometimes I feel like my entire diet is chicken, cheese, apples, coffee and sugar-free popsicles! Actually, that's what I ate today, along with one asparagus spears and 2 slices of boiled egg And I cleaned my closet out 2 weeks ago and got rid of virtually everything I owned. I took it all to our local thrift shop and donated it, minus some of the 'good' pieces that I gave to a friend who is planning to have WLS I was in a 16/1x when I had surgery and had been for a few years so I didn't have any 'skinny' clothes. I'm now proudly in 12/M and am rebuilding a wardrobe with end-of-season sales, etc. I've bought a couple of things in sizes 10 and 8, which BLOWS my mind, but if I lose another 50 lbs, I'll go down at least one more size, right? I wore a size 8 wedding dress and got pregnant 6 months later and have never gotten smaller than a 12 again. I'm with you in not holding on to anything big...I'm not going to make it comfortable to gain weight again.

What Is Your Beverage of Choice?

Plain Water, but has to be ice cold. I throw a couple of half-filled bottles in the freezer every day, then top them off with filtered water from the frige door when I'm ready to drink it. I have a bottle next to me or with me when I'm out and about. I'll have an occasional Cappuccino (maybe twice a week) with skim milk. Pre-workouts, I throw some Fairlife skim milk (ultra filtered, high Protein, very clean taste) in the blender with a few tablespoons of Greek yogurt, a few drops of coconut or vanilla extract, a few ice cubes and either a single frozen strawberry or a few slices of banana.
  5. @@Torriluv87 Open the capsule and sprinkle the medication (little balls) into a spoon with some liquid or sugar free pudding/yogurt (if you are allowed to have these things at the stage you're at). The medication ABSOLUTELY works out of the capsule. Your surgeon would not have given it to you if it didn't. Also, PLEASE don't rely on the posters here to tell you when you can or cannot take a pill. If you have a question, call your surgeon's office and ask them. Some people are cleared by their surgeon to resume pills in the hospital, some (like me) aren't allowed to take anything that won't fit through a straw for the first 3 months. What is right for YOU is what your surgeon tells you to do. Good luck!
  6. Hello! So glad to check back in with June buddies! So since 6/21 hw 367 cw 294.8 (Nekkid:) about 72 pounds down. I feel like been slow going but might be picking back up. I am changing up times for my Protein shakes. I do kind of have routine for liquid and protein so I still feel that weekends are hardest for me to get my Water in so changing that up a bit as well by having water after Breakfast (30 min + later) and then shake before lunch. Since I sleep more on weekends usually I have to pay attention to schedule. I have used my Fitbit tracking to keep accountable to eating and exercise. I do at least 5 days per week and have 2-3 of those days include weights. I just recently upped my level on elliptical and some weights I find it make it through the workout but not as fast as at easier level so on the machine it is saying I am burning less calories but have actually lost more since that change. Who knows. A local university has a program where they do resting metabolic rate bone density and body fat scans. It is not too pricey. I am considering doing this to help get a clear idea of what I am burning and need to burn. I wonder if my nut will be able to help or use the information on next visit, she is not most dynamic or informative sole. food wise I have had no real problems. I did buy papaya enzyme and used one time eating steak. I have red meat from time to time but really it's mostly chicken chicken chicken. My life is water pee chicken water pee yogurt Protein Shake water pee repeat. Clothing I have really thinned out closet as some items were just too big. I am still working way into items that before had been way too tight but look forward to donating all of it. I am not holding on to anything big!
  7. It has no corn syrup and is low calorie, at 40. I'd add some Protein powder and turn it into a really great snack. Is greek-style yogurt available in Canada? I never even both with traditional yogurt any more because greek is so high in protein. In the US, we can buy Oikos Triple Zero greek yogurt, it's my go-to now. I also like Fage plain greek yogurt. And despite some opinions, sugar-free popsicles are only 15 calories each and thus are a relatively harmless sweet, cold item. You can make your own with any sugar-free drink and popsicle molds.
  8. I don't know that I've had a typical day, but mostly a scrambled eggs for Breakfast, 1/4 cup cottage cheese or yogurt for a snack. A few ounces of lunch meat and a laughing cow cheese for lunch, a banana or part of a Protein smoothie for another snack and then a couple ounces of lean meat and maybe some cooked veggies for dinner. Day 5 liquid diet.

I'm on day 8 of my 2 week post opp diet. Yah it's hard. Ive been having tomato Soup and peace and ham . Just feel like it's a meal more than a shake or yogurt. Think of the long term . Your body needs these 2 weeks to heal. Good luck Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

    Hunger pains

In the first few days after surgery It was a struggle for me to get all my fluids in and wasn't hungry at all. I only started feeling hungry again at the end of my 11th day. Yesterday was day 12 and the hardest day of the post op liquid diet. I was so sick of vanilla and chocolate flavored everything, I started putting some spices in my yogurt and Protein shake (cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice) which helped. Today my surgeon cleared me for the next phase. I never thought I'd be happy to eat puréed foods, but oh how I am! Just had 1/8 cup soft scrambled eggs, delicious! Nervous about Stage 4

Dont worry about calories at all. Focus on good quality Protein and veggies and you will do fine. I remember starting with a perfectly cooked piece of fish or chicken. You need to make sure it is moist not dry so dont over cook. One of my first meals was a chicken breast cooked just to done, not over. It was super juicy. I liked to use a low sugar spagetti sauce and a sprinkling of cheese. I could maybe eat an ounce or two and i would be stuffed for hours. In the beginning i always would make some sort of low sugar sauce or non fat gravy. But my absolute favorite was fish. My tummy loved it. It took some time for me to be able to eat beef and pork and even now, i can only eat a small amount and it has to be a very tender cut. It was probably 4 months post before i could eat shrimp but now it is one of my favorites. I ate and still eat alot of cottage cheese and greek yogurt. Just take it slowly, chew very well and did i say take it slowly?! LOL. The worst feeling is when you eat to fast and you feel a huge lump in your chest. It can really ruin a meal and that can be caused by eating too fast or not chewing well enough.
  12. I am feeling really weak today. Hard to focus and just lethargic. I have been drinking my Protein shakes. I have been drinking Water. I have been eating my sugar free Snacks like pudding and yogurt. Is this jus my body going into ketosis? Also I have been taking my multi Vitamins and sub lingual B12 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  15. My Dr had me on soft chicken and tuna a week post op soft stage 3 full liquids the first week. With that said, nothing bothered me that was on my list to try til w weeks out which was Monday everything has bothered me since except Protein shakes and yogurt. Water even bothers me. Other things seem to "get stuck" I can only describe it as chest pain after 3 baby spoon bites. Be easy on your tummy you may just not feel the damage. Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App

    Food Tracking Confusion

If you measure a portion and don't finish it, do you finish it later? If so, then just track the portion you ate based on what you measured. For instance if you eat 1/2 a Greek yogurt then record the 1/2 serving and then when you finish the other half record the second 1/2 (or 1/3 or quarter or whatever).

    What is everyone eating?

At your stage my surgeon had me drinking milk only for a snack. Food i was eating cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes, cream of wheat, I was also allowed pureed meats and eggs but they did not agree with me at that stage so i live on yogurt, cottage cheese and protein shakes until i hit the soft food stage.
  18. Hi, I'm almost 4 weeks post op and I am trying to figure out ideas on foods to eat and Snacks to have, especially at work. I've been on Protein shakes, greek yogurt, cheese stick, I've also had chicken & fish. Ineed more options. Thank you Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App

    Náuseas and pain

I've heard this is very common... nurse told me to get unflavored whey isolate to mix in broth, yogurt, etc..have to cool down the broth before u put it in ... the nausea will likely get better so I've read

    Snacks other than protein drink

I love cottage cheese and salsa too. Everyone thinks I'm nuts! Those 110 calories jerky packs are great to take when on the run...I try to eat protein at meals, so I get veggies in. My body needs fiber. Baby cucumbers and cherry tomatoes are my go to. I love babybel cheese, Greek yogurt, 100 calories nut packs and hummus. Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App

What Is Your Beverage of Choice?

It's super easy and fun. I've been doing it for years now. First you get 1 tablespoon of kefir grains (can buy it from Amazon or have a friend send to you since it really multiplies hehe), you add that tablespoon to 1 or 2 cups of milk, leave it out at room temperature for 24 hrs, strain the grains off, and you have kefir. You reuse the grains over and over. I still have the original grains from years ago. To the strained off kefir, you can put it in smoothies, and use just like yogurt but it has waaaay more probiotics than yogurt, more strains to protect you from illnesses. Then with the strained kefir grains, you just add that into new milk and you do it over and over. It's easier to watch the video below as I'm not ept enough to explain it hehe. It's a great hobby too! Here is my favorite youtube video (it healed this girl from Crohn's disease): Can you do this with almond milk?

    Grazing

I feel like I get up every single day and say to myself 'yep, still can't do that stuff anymore'. It's honestly day by day by day...and if I screw up one day, the next day is a clean sheet until I choose to do something to screw it up again. I realized after my surgery that I used to head straight to the kitchen to get something to eat the minute I walked in the door. And I did it just now. Of course, I haven't already overeaten all day long and I didn't get a bagel or a bowl of ice cream, I got a yogurt, but the habit is still the same. I HAVE to break it. Be kind to yourself...you didn't dive head first in to a vat of Chunky Monkey, right

    liquids.

So, does using a smoothie count as liquids? I use one scoop of powder, 8 oz of skim milk, one cup of ice and a few table spoons of greek yogurt. How should I tabulate the liquids for this, I am always under and hoping using smoothie will help.
