    liquid diet life

Today is day 2 of my liquid diet. I feel so emotional. Thank goodness no one tells me I can't do it. As a matter of fact my sister is so supportive she is doing the liquid diet with me. I keep thinking 12 more days till I'm banded. I can say I'm not really starving I just feel so drained. I know if I can't do it for two weeks how can I change my life and eat right. Tomorrow I have a wedding to go to this should be interesting. I'm not sure if I can tackle staying away from food around others. I will also start to cook tomorrow TESTS lol
  3. Okay so I'm about 3 weeks post op, and today I noticed that the right side, under my rib cage is is slightly tender and rock hard. I think it may be my liver, just from an anatomical aspect. I have no incisions nearby, so I know it's not my port or anything like that (that I can feel under the port incision, so I'm really sure about that). Any thoughts? Like I said, mildly sore, but really hard, so I'm not sure if this is normal or if I should worry. Has this happened to anyone else?

    Like riding a bike

I had a stall for a few weeks and then lost 2 3/4 pounds, stall over! I have a gym membership to Planet Fitness and before I moved I was there 3or 4 times a week. Now I don't live close to the gym and have barely gone, my fault sort of. Since I moved my knees have been bothering me so much more than before. Tomorrow I start my Synvisc injections and I pray to god they work so I can put off double knee replacement surgery. In the hopes that all goes well, I bought a really nice recumbent bike to use at home. I rode it tonight for 30 minutes and my knees were clicking the majority of the time and now I'm hurting pretty good. Hopefully this pain is worth the effort. Surgery date: 1/8/15 Weight lost: 60 pounds

    Hopeless

The dietitian in my surgeon's office told me that I should be eating no more than 800 calories per day and that I need to be doing cardio 5 days per week. Have you discussed with your doc what amount of calories and exercise you should be doing?

  11. Okwell i didnt find anything in my notes about supplements or Vitamins that that firm skin BUT i did have in my notes that Biotin is excellentfor hair and nail growth as well as healthier skin. So you might try that. I have been taking the biotin since about a week prior to surgery; it sure grows nails! I think whoever suggested doing curls was probably right as well as my husband telling me to do squats for my thighs. Good luck everyone.

    Pain at port?

Its normal, you only 3 days post op. i couldn't even sit down. I'm two weeks by the way and i absolutely love it. Had rough days but it gets better. Just walk. It will relieve the pain and keep taking your narcotics it helps. Just keep checking you temp and incision site, the biggest one. Good luck, and congrats

    My Story, As I Wait.......

Hi, my name is Jen. I was lucky because my insurance wanted a 5 yr weight history. My dr office didn't have any diet records and neither did I. Thankfully my dr just wrote a letter and that was good enough. I also was on diet pills for many yrs. Too many yrs. Not anymore. I also weigh 243. I am only 5'1 so I feel horrible and am in pain every day. All my life I maintained 125-130 lbs. Then 9 yrs ago I started gaining weight due to depression. Then I had my son, that was 30 lbs there. The icing on the cake was I quit smoking and that put on 40 lbs! My small frame can't handle this weight. I just went for my last visit. Got my 2 week supply of shakes. I start those on the 10 th then surgery on the 25th! I am pretty nervous. I feel like I will die from hunger on the pre op diet but I HAVE to lose the weight. Good luck to you and I hope you find something out soon! Oh, and I called the insurance all the time too, LOL I only had to wait a week though
  14. So, scheduled for Saturday. Yeah! Pre op direct has been ok. Lost 9lbs so far. Why aren't I nervous? Confidence in Doctor, maybe. Been super busy. I'm sure jitters will hit sometime thus week. All I know is I can't wait to be back home Saturday afternoon!.!
  15. I am 11 weeks post op and woke up this morning with really bad chest pains. I kinda felt like I over ate yesterday, so I'm not sure if this would be causing it. I feel like I am going to burp but no burp, just pain. My doctor also told me not to throw up, but I feel like I am. Has this happened to any of you and I am going to make a doctors appt to see why.
  16. Every surgeon has different requirements. Who knows how they decide upon one method or another, but I like to assume they know what they are doing. My surgeon only allowed me 3 Protein shakes per day (max of 150 calories each), one green salad with calorie-free dressing, and sugar-free Jello or popsicles. Since the salad and sugar-free stuff had next to no calories, that was only 450 calories a day for me.
  17. My pre-op diet allowed 4 Bariatric Advantage protein shakes per day, plus any low calorie liquids, jello, popsicles, etc. The best things I stocked up on were different flavors of "soup starters"...pho broth, tortilla soup broth (Swanson), Chinese hot and sour broth (also Swanson). These were great because most of the allowed foods are sweet...artificially sweetened, even worse. The only problem is they are high in sodium, so you can't go too crazy with them. I also really craved chewing, so I did allow myself an occasional dill pickle or some celery. Personally, I would advocate this pre-op diet. It is fool proof, you don't need to count any calories, and convenient. It sounds pretty dismal, but it really isn't bad after day 3 or 4. I think it is also a good way to start to rewire your relationship with food. You definitely are forced to find other things to think about other than food!
  18. I am awaiting all the pre-screening results from Rockwood in Spokane Washington, I actually live a couple hours away. Waiting is frustrating it has been almost 2 weeks. I have called the nurse but haven't heard back. Anyone else going through Rockwood Clinic?

    Stupid pain!

It took about 5-6 days for me, but I found that they more I moved the better I felt. Are you walking a litte bit everyday? Your pain should be subsiding this week!
  20. Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and I started this topic basically for support. I am at the very beginning of my lap band journey. I am soon going to schedule an appointment with a bariatric doctor to start going over "if surgery is right for me etc." I KNOW i want and need the surgery. Im 5'4 and about 240 pounds, that is not good for a young female. I called my insurance today (federal blue cross blue shield) and they said that they will cover baratric surgery. YEY She gave me a huge list of requirements which includes having a bmi of at least 40, be over the age of 18, proof of a at least 1 year of failed attempts at dieting, 3 months of medically supervised diet through a nutritionist and physiatrist or something like that. There is more but it's pretty basic stuff. Since I have a bmi over 40 i dont have to have any weight related problems (i asked to be sure). But i am just terrified that they will deny my claim and I will be at a brick wall. My question is what happens if i do get denied? will they tell me exactly why the denied it (so I have a chance to fix it?) can someone please share their story of how they were able to get insurance to cover their surgery after it was denied. I am just so nervous, i have a feeling they wont let me get it PS. PLEASE TELL ME HOW LONG IT TOOK TO FIND OUT IF YOUR INSURANCE WILL PAY FOR IT. Thank you so much everyone
  21. I called my insurance company and I am lucky because they don't require the 6 month diet proof, however, this is something that your employer has to agree to pay more for. I am a teacher, so they figure the less I weigh the better for my job. If you follow all the requirements it should go smoothly. I have a pacemaker and was told it would be okay if I got the approval from just my cardiologist. Then they said, 2 weeks before surgery, I needed to get an appointment with my primary physician, which I haven't seen in about 1 1/2 years, for a physical. I explained that I have seen my cardiologist more and they let me get by with that. They were very good at working with me at the doctors office because I was getting very upset when they said I would have another hoop to go through. Just follow through and I think you will be okay. It took me about 1 month to get all the information to my doctor and then get the insurance to approve.
  22. Happy New Year! I was banded 12/04/09 and I think I am doing fine. I have yet to have a fill (scheduled 1/18). I lost 18 lbs. during the first 2 weeks and have only lost 2 lbs since - I am hoping once I get my fill I will progess. Anyway, my question to you all is about stomach hardness. My stomach - in the area where the band and new pouch should be is hard all the time like it is full or something. It doesn't hurt but it is just hard. IS THIS NORMAL?

    Frustration

I was told in the beginning that it can take a couple days to actually have a date for surgery scheduled, and even then it will be scheduled for up to 5 weeks out. Why? Because my surgeon has specific days in which he is doing the surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Mobility back?

I had a week of pain at home, but it mostly due to the gas. I had a heat pad that helped with the pain and discomfort, so you might want to try that? The best remedy by far was the walking. I can't tell you how sceptical I was of it, but to my suprise it really helped a lot. Just go slow in the beginning, but do it often. Moving around will also help against extra scar tissue on the insides, as well as prevent blood clots. Good luck, you will see improvement every day! Nilla
