  1. I am currently three years post sleeve sitting ten pounds heavier than when I stared contemplating the SADI revision surgery. I am pretty hopeful and excited this time though. I am already eating better, exhaustively researching the procedure and the future diet. Finally I found a therapist that specializes in disordered eating near me who is taking new patients. It wouldn’t be possible without telehealth because she’s a couple hours away (something positive that came from COVID). Within 15 minutes tonight we discussed my mental health, medications, medical history, potential surgery, a change in the dietician and touched on some of my emotional eating concerns. She thinks she can help me and she asked me to think about it and talk it over with my current therapist and if we agree it’s a good idea she wants me to sign a release so that she and my therapist can work together. I feel so excited and hopeful that this is going to make all the difference this time. I am curious how long the process usually takes. I’m hoping I will have a pretty good idea of how much help I need and know whether I am ready to move forward by the time my surgery date rolls around.

Lap band revised to sleeve 6/9/2017 - poop

Thanks to both of you for the responses. Amforshort congrats on your revision, we had the same procedure one day apart. I won't get into gory details but I took miralax once every night since the surgery and yesterday it started cleaning me out. It wasn't as unpleasant as stimulant laxatives have been in the past so I would recommend it to others. How are you feeling 5 days in?
  3. My surgeon is one my ***'s SoCal experts on revisions. He told me that, regardless of revision or virgin, sleevers fall into two categories: Those who follow the rules, "ace" the mushies phase, learn what a bite size is, and a portion size is, and make the transition to solids well. They lose weight well and maintain it. The other group doesn't follow the rules, blows the mushies phase by eating too much, too often, and too quickly, vomit, go back to liquids, and supplement with crunchy carbs and sliders. They do poorly. He stresses follow-up care and education. He's very strict. I am losing quicker than I did with my Band.
  4. For those who haven't been following my story............... I was diagnosed with an eroded band in November of 2011 and had it removed in March of 2012. I had to wait for six months before revising to the gastric sleeve as my surgeon wanted to wait for me to heal completely and do medical tests before confirming that I would be a good candidate for the sleeve. I have complete those tests and he was satisfied that I could have the sleeve. We also found that I had developed another hiatal hernia (the first one was repaired when I had my lap band surgery). My predetermination request for the sleeve surgery was denied. They stated that I needed to complete a six month weight loss program in order for them to consider my request. I asked my surgeon's insurance coordinator to appeal based on the reasoning that this was a repeat surgery for a lap band that had medically failed me and that I shouldn't have to complete the six month medically supervised weight loss program. She filed an appeal but no where in the letter did it address the six month weight loss program so of course they denied me again stating that we still hadn't submitted the records they had requested. Frustrated beyond belief, I took the initiative to write my own appeal letter. I used language from the BCBS-AL bariatric policy regarding repeat surgeries and their rationale for requiring the six month weight loss program and explained how I had met that rationale just by having a lap band for four years and that my waiting for six months before revising to another surgery was not conducive to improving my health. I just got off the phone with BCBS-AL and they have approved my surgery!!!!!! I am actually shocked that I succeeded in my appeal. I fully expected them to deny me and had already started the medically supervised six month weight loss program in preparation for that denial (and have lost 10 lbs over a six week period which is nice). I'm excited, relieved and nervous! I've been through this before so I don't know why but I am. I was very successful with my lap band (losing 94 lbs). I remember how wonderful it felt to be thin and feel good about myself and how I looked and not to be in pain anymore from carrying around all this extra weight (yes I packed the pounds back on after my band was removed). I can't wait to be there again! Yeah me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. yes this just happened to me - so how are you doing now - how do you like the plication? was this your first WLS? I just had a lap band revision and they did the plication as well. I am up 9 lbs and in fact i had to call them cuz they state that as a 'call your dr if....' but they DID discharge me 7 lbs heavier! Going to see my GP tomorrow how was your recovery?

Proper Calorie Intake while VERY Active

It's been a while... Since I had all of the fluid removed out of my band I lost about 8lbs the. I found it again. I've been eating non stop. My Dr called me today and scheduled the revision for July 30th. They will remove my band and I'll have the sleeve. I'm SO relived! I feel so happy! I'll keep you posted as to what happens after!
  7. Today was my 2 week check up from my revision. I am so happy that I am down 12 lbs!! I am very excited about this. I also get to start back on my Zumba class and lifting weights to music class next week. It is strange I am feeling the need to do more of that type of exercise than I am of walking.
  8. Following! I too am having a revision from sleeve to bypass due to a stricture and constant vomiting. Not really sure what to expect.
  9. Look into the SIPS procedure revision. That may help and not as extreme as bypass SIPS procedure 12/11/17 SW 307 CW 226 GW 160
  10. I had a revision from a gastric band, not sleeve - and it is EVERYTHING I hoped for. No more gerd, fast weight loss, no hunger - seriously, I wish I had done it 5 years ago...
  11. Even if you can eat a lot, you should not. Just stick with whatever your program dictates and focus on protein. I had a band revision to bypass and understand your fears, but I think if we stick with the plan as it was laid out we will be fine. I lost 30lbs my first month. I measure my food, time it out, and don't eat a bite more than the 3-4 oz I was allotted. Good luck! I feel so much better this time around!
  12. Thanks. It has been very rough. Looking forward to hopefully keeping down food after the revision. But, honestly, nervous about another surgery with more potential risks/complications. I am praying everything goes well for us both!

    BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD HORIZON!!

What doctor did you go to? I'm in Northern NJ and am looking for a good physician. I have had two gastric bands erode through my stomach and would like to have the gastric sleeve vs gastric bypass this time. I'm not sure about going to my past physician, or possibly trying a new doctor. I have Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ and am thankful to hear that you were approved for the sleeve. Would possibly like to go to the same physician as you since you were approved for the procedure. Thanks "I have Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ and they got rid of the 6 month wait right when I went through the process to be submitted (dec 10). Before that time my friend had a revision from a band to sleeve and after 3 denials did get approved and didn't have to do the 6 month wait. Be sure to call because requirements change and you may not be aware. I was approved very quickly. Within a few days of submitting and approved the first time. I was very surprised. Good Luck"

    Lapband After Failed Rny

I haven't had BOB (band over bypass) but know a few folks who did that. It didn't help one of them, another did fabulously well and lost all the weight she'd regained plus another 10 or so pounds and has been maintaining fine. I've lost track of the other BOBsters. I would urge anyone who's considering revision to think carefully about exactly how their original surgery "failed". Did your original surgical tool stop working, or did you stop working it, or a combination of both? You really need to have that clear in your head before you have more surgery. Every bariatric procedure requires some degree of hard work on the patient's part. If your regain after RNY has been medically shown to be due to a stretched pouch or dilated stoma, you also need to talk to your surgeon about how to avoid those conditions once you're banded. Good luck, and congrats on the baby!

    Heartburn?

I am scheduled for surgery May 21st. On my last pre op appointment with the surgeon I told him I've been experiencing a lot of heartburn lately and he told me with the revision from band to sleeve, it will probably be worse? Anyone has heartburn problems after revision?
  17. How much Protein did your doctor tell you to get in a day? I was a cash pay revision from a band to the sleeve, I missed a lot of the education about the sleeve. My initial education was for a RnY, but I was change to a band a week before surgery due to a change in health. I know each WLS has is own requirements.
  18. Hi all… has anyone gotten sleeved quickly after having a band removed and not have great results? This was my Story and now I am scheduled for a revision next month. I am Really hoping I have more success this time around. Anyone else similar story?
  19. I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. Hopefully your revision can be scheduled soon so you can heal and move on.
  20. Thank you everybody. It really has been a pain. I still love my sleeve, but it's been made abundantly clear to me that I don't really have a choice with the revision. So as soon as I can get cleared, we're scheduling it. I'm just ready to be done and go back to living my life.

Congratulations on your surgery! It's hard seeing that fluid gain, but I had a revision surgery on Tuesday and I've lost 10 lbs in the last two days. It comes off quickly. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

    2nd slippage, considering bypass

I've slipped again--it's the second time. Going in for revision Thursday. I don't want it removed, I want him to fix it or put in a bigger band. Ugh!
  23. Ahhh the joys of being young and able to bounce back so fast. I to think your amazing in the fact that your able to be up and willing to go for round 2 already. My Oct surgery kicked my butt, I guess being 43 didn't help. I go in Tuesday to have my revision and am scared to death of just that. You are going to look like a supermodel when your all done, You have worked very hard for this, best of luck to you in your next step.!!! Can't wait to see the pix.
  24. Hey Karey, Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, Dr. Saltz is doing the revisions and I am confident he will do a fantastic job. I really am very happy with my previous results, this is just a small fix :crying: How are you doing? Last I read you were dealing with a slip - did that resolve itself? ~Lori

    Terrified- surgery Tues

Each surgeon is different as is each patient. With my sleeve I was in patient overnight and got a dose of heparin before surgery and another the next day. I didn’t go home on blood thinners. Walking really helps with preventing blood clots so make sure you move but don’t overdo it either. If you have any questions you can always call your surgeon. Make sure you have a ride home though; they won’t let you drive yourself post-op. That said, sleeve surgery only takes about 90 minutes to complete so most of your stay will be waiting pre-op and in post-op recovery. Your fears about Covid aren’t without merit. Surgery does affect the immune system for a short while after. If you can avoid crowds and any excessive trips outside your home, I’d do that. Recovering during a pandemic is scary! I’ve been there. I had revision surgery due to GERD in August and I stayed home as much as possible. It made me feel safer and I was less nervous about catching Covid that way.
