Hello all! I'm getting my lap band removed on April 14 (after having it for almost 8 years). No revision surgery. Any of you who had the same, could you please share your recovery experiences? I was planning on going back to work on the 20th. Thanks!!

4 days post-op (bypass)
miss_smiles replied to Yo-yo girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL agreed fellow New Yorker!! Some people just don't know how to answer the question. And ironically enough, although I do not 100% the answer to your question, I'm having my surgery next week for a revision sleeve to bypass. maybe we can stay in touch?! What i can tell you though, is when i had the sleeve I could barely drink the recommended 64oz daily. I would try to sip every 10 minutes but it was soooo uncomfortable. It would take me an entire day like this to even hit my fluid intake. -
I've prided myself on losing 100 lbs eating whatever I want, just a few bites. Well, after my band to sleeve revision 4 mths ago, I've only lost 22 lbs (knew I'd lose slower, started at 174). So I guess I'm gunna have to reevaluate my intake. Counting carbs would be miserable. I was on Atkins induction for 4 weeks last Feb. I would've killed my mom for a cookie I think counting calories would be a better choice for me. Occasionally I count on myfitnesspal and I'm usually under 1200. Guess I hafta stay under 1000 to take off the last 20 lbs. Those last 20 r the hardest of all. for sure. My goal is to maintain until after the holidays. Then I will take it seriously and lose the last 20. Hubby gained 40 lbs over the last 8 mths or so and he's doing the same thing (no, he hasn't had wls, just does Atkins).

I'm getting the band removed rather than revised because I've had problems with slippage before. I've emptied than refilled twice and I was faced with removal or revision. I refuse to put myself through the emotional toll again and there would be a possibility that slippage may occur even after revision. I also fell that my body is negating the band.
I think you hit the nail on the head with that one phrase EMOTIONAL TOLL..... our intuition is often negated by those that are supposed to be helping us ( the doctors) They so often make us feel like were crazy (were not) band problems DO occur, it's documented. and for that reason REVISIONS occur. DON'T BLAME YOURSELF!! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I WISH YOU LUCKY in your new journey

Done and Done!
GotItDoneInHarlem replied to GotItDoneInHarlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was revised from a sleeve to a RNY for GERD. -
Is there anyone else out there dealing with what I am going through? I had my lap band done on Jan. 28th 2010 and it couldn't have gone smoother. I lost an astoning 71 pounds and felt like I became the person I should have been a long time ago. My nightmare started the day after my port revision. It had flipped in June of this year and of course was told is was a simple procedure...woke up twice on the table but I guess that can be common with a twighlight...ever since he did the revision it has been pure hell for me. He relocted the port, I have nothing but pain and none of my fills are working. I have had 3 fills since the surgery and nothing is working. I have expressed this to him and he did a CT Scan to see if there was anything going on around the port. Of coursenothing came up so why look into it anymore....he did a fill that day and I woke up at 4am in so much pain my husband had to help me out of bed. I laid on the couch for 24 hours with an ice pack and Tylenol. And cried a lot. I called the nurse and told her everything again and she has been very kind but kind doesn't help. She told me to make another money making appointment and have a heart to heart chat with him and write all my questions down. Not sure what else I can tell him!! When a patient has that much pain wouldn't you think your doc would look into this further or give you options. He told me it could soft tissue/scar tissue from the surgery or my body is rejecting it. Now I can't get in to see him for almost a month. Dec.21st!! Just in time to renew my deductable. I shouldn't worry so much about the money because my insurance does cover a lot of it, but I still have to pay some. So when I see him I am going to give him these options..either do a test to make sure the whole band is working, no leaks, port flips, or band slips. I have been poked so many times I feel like pin cushion. I don't even think he is getting the fluid in the port.. When I drink the water it does get stopped and then he does his thing with the fill. But then the next day I feel like there was nothing done. I think I have a surgeon who is not listening (not the first time), doesn't care or does't believe me. I am actually getting scared. Would've something is really wrong and he is missing it! So again, options are test, see a different surgeon or get the band removed which breaks my heart. It worked so well for me when it was just right. I am so sad about this right now. I thought I finally had found the answer to my obesity and its all messed up due to a flipped port. Gosh darn it! I also travel one hour to there. I go to Froedert in Milwaukee which is an awsome hospital. One of the best. People come all around from the world to go there. How did I end up in this mess. This time my husband is going with me....can someone please hlep me or support me in anyway. Give me any advice..I need something to keep going....I hear all these success stories and I want to be one of them. I was on my way too. Please, maybe just a pat on the back for me right now.Dec. 21st seems so far away. He is going to be gone I guess. There are two other docs in the practice whom i wish i picked now. I have met both of them and they are awsome. oh well...thanks for listening everyone...HELP!!!

There is also a band to sleeve revision forum - an excellent place to hear detailed input on this subject as this forum was intended for vets to discuss vet issues. I was a revision and can share my personal experiences but bottom line - with the sleeve I don't have food restrictions. Sleeve has been for me a good tool, whereas the band was a midevil torture device.

How Long Did Your 3-Week-Stall Last?
spadesmcloven replied to kimmr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh sorry and yes revision from band... -
Today, I am 3 weeks out from band to sleeve revision. My 3 week stall started at two weeks out, and I haven't moved since. I am a lightweight (didn't wait to gain all my band weight back when that went down the crapper) and only have another 20-30 lbs to goal. How long did your 3 week stall last? I wonder if I'm done losing already? If I am, so be it, my most pressing need was to make sure that I didn't keep gaining. Also, for reference, I'm eating mostly mushy foods, just starting to work in some actual meat. Yesterday I had turkey lunchmeat for the first time, today I had shredded chicken for the first time. Otherwise I'm doing yogurts, cottage cheese, string cheese, tuna salad, that type of thing. I generally get in my 60-64 oz of Water, and am usually in the 55 -60 g of Protein a day, without using any Protein shakes. Thoughts? How did other lightweights fare?

Newbie in Houston...decisions....

My surgeon is Dr. Scarborough. I am revising from the band to the sleeve after 10 years with the lapband. When my band doc gave up his practice to go back to Israel, Dr. Scarborough and Dr. Yu took over the practice. So I've seen Dr. Scarborough a few times before making the decision to revise to the sleeve. I like Dr. Scarborough because he is VERY thorough. He has a very quiet bedside manner. But he will answer every question you have. I've not met Dr. Yu but I've heard good things about him also. For the most part, I'd give the staff good marks. As with anything this important, you will need to stay on top of things and make sure to followup. I guess I'd give the staff a 7-8 out of 10. The nutritionists are awesome. The person who scheduled my surgery date is awesome. Good Luck -

Doctor Scarborough was recommended to me by several coworkers and my doctor. I'm having a band to sleeve revision. Was approved by insurance and now waiting to schedule my surgery. Good luck! -
Slow weight loss
pinkpeonies replied to Boniverfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost two months out, and that's been my pace nearly the the entire time. I'm a revision (band to sleeve), and it's exactly what my surgeon predicted, with me staying between 600-800 cals most days. Everyone's body is different. Your loss may speed up, it may not. The key is to stick with it, and avoid comparing yourself to others, IME. -
Got A Question For Those Who Got Ther Sleeves Done...
CowgirlJane replied to Jimbo_D's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I don't play softball, but I do horse stuff and was told to wait about 8 weeks before engaging in any activity that could result in heavy lifting (flinging the saddle up), sudden jerking impacting abs (uh, horses can do that sort of thing without warning) or has risk of falling from a taller height (I think they made that one up just for me). I too was told to not lift more then about 8-10 pounds until at least 6 weeks out. Normally, 6 weeks seems to be the magical date when they say everything is healed, but as a band to sleeve revision they always added a bit more "caution time" for me so it was more like 8 weeks before I was all cleared for everything. -
Pain after sleeve surgery?
msfitn2014 replied to Skywalker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a band revision to sleeve....I had alot of scar tissue and they removed my band on the left side and my stomach on the right side...my biggest fear PAIN....while in the hospital one night i was only a lil sore with the exception of horrific gas pains in my back which subsided after abt 20min of me taking my own gasx....day 2 im home feeling fine just a lil tired and sore on my right side. I was able to walk a mile everyday and no pain and no pain meds! I did wake up every morning for abt 2 weeks a lil sore where they remived my stimach and i was tired the first week but I was doing all my normal stuff on day 3 except not picking up anything. -
Lapband To Sleeve Is It As Good As Everyone Says?
Afro_Cyster commented on petal's blog entry in petal's Blog
As a sleeve only patient, may I ask why you are waiting later in the year to have the sleeve revision done? I personally would be concerned with the amount of scarring that would be involved (not to mention the pain of being cut on three times instead of two). -
ok so i am new to this so forgive me if i dont do or say something correctly.. I am currently banded but going in on the 16th March to have it removed and a sleeve revision done later in the year but I am so worried I am doing the wrong thing, I have been following a lot of posts over the last year and doing lots of research but i guess what I am asking for is the reassurance that the sleeve is so much better than the band.. would love to hear from others that had the revision and why?? cheers

I had my revision one year ago today. I’m shocked and amazed at the changes that have occurred this year. My boobs have disappeared, I lost a lot of hair... but more importantly I’m no longer overweight. I still have a belly (and lose skin) but I’m learning to love myself just as I am. I’m so thankful to be on this road. Now I just need to get my butt back in the gym, good news is that it is within walking distance now. No regrets. ❤️

5’7” 226 BMI 35 anyone similar? December ‘17 surgery
SIPS in Seattle replied to Ladycop2070's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Thank you! The time will go by super fast, before you know it you’ll be at 3 months. I feel like I’m a rather slow loser which is usually the case as a revision vs a first time wls patient. But as long as it’s still coming off it then it’s all good. Good luck to you, I’m sure you’ll hit 180-190 in no time [emoji4] -
The staples cause zero issue with an MRI, I've had one since my revision, and I also have 2 titanium steel screws in my left and have had more MRIs and Cat scans than I care to even count. With the NG tube, since our stomach is still full functioning, no actualy change in the anatomy other than size, I really don't seen an NG being an issue. Once that scope gets down there, they would realize quite quickly that you have had a partial gastrectomy. They may not know the "why" (WLS instead of cancer or ulcerative condition) you had it, but any decent ER doctor would realize you are missing 75% of your stomach. It wouldn't be a bad idea if it makes you more comfortable to get one.

Wow - that's a big decision. Would you consider revising to something else (I'm hearing good things about the sleeve), or just nothing at all? Well...I hope you get the result that would make you happiest.

First fill, turned out to be no fill
mkmelissag replied to shadst8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you been able to get in for your fill yet? How are you doing? I just had my 2nd fill - flouro required again. Doc still saying after I lose 20-30 lbs, he may be able to access it better. But, he also said that if after 4 fills it is still difficult, he'll consider port revision surgery. I hope yours goes much better! :tt1: -
I had revision band to sleeve surgery on a Friday, went home on Sunday, and was back in the office (I work from home) part of the day on Monday. I only took pain meds for a few days. I also had my gall bladder removed and a hiatal hernia repaired. The hardest part of sitting at my desk was that my back got tired pretty quickly. So just take lots of breaks if you can - get up and walk around, etc. They'll have you up and walking in the hospital a few hours after surgery, so this is something you're supposed ot be doing anyway. As for a pump - my doc gives an automatic pain pump that you wear on a halter that lasts about 3-4 days post-op. It had 2 tiny tubes running out of it that went directly into my abdomen below my breastbone. When it was empty I pulled out the tubes myself and tossed it all in the trash - easy breezy! And thank goodness you aren't having a band! Those things are a pain the booty!

QUESTIONS FOR CARNIE WILSON? (Prize for your question!)
shedo82773 replied to Diva Taunia's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I didn't realize she went from the RNY to the Lap Band. How could they do that? I thought it was a way risky surgery to revise from the RNY. My hubby had his Lap-Band for 13 years and himself among other has had nothing but trouble with them. Does she think the band will be more successful? -
