This past Monday I had surgery to remove a stricture. My bypass surgery was done on July 20th. I’m still having the issue with food being stuck as I try to eat. I had a complete meltdown yesterday and couldn’t stop crying. Am I going to have to live the rest of my life like this? For those of you who have had bypass surgery, are you able to eat normally? What is it like for you now? Any regrets?

Oh wow. Sounds like I need to prepare myself then. Sorry you’re in so much pain . I thought since I’ve already had the stomach part done that the bypass would be much easier. Has your doc said if you will lose more weight?

My Gastric Bypass RNY is September 15th!! I’ve had my date for three months now (they’ve been backed up with corona hold backs). It’s coming up quick!! Good luck to you ❤️ -
Good morning. I am scheduled for Gastric Bypass RNY in September 15th. I’m told my thyroid medication can not be crushed or put into liquid form. I haven’t had my pre op yet but I will ask them. Just curious what others have done?? Thanks in advance!

Hi Kristy, Same here. Just got mine done on Aug 17th. Today is my 4th day postop. Nonprobl3ms except the gas. Is painful and so discomforting. My doc tells me the first 2 or 3 weeks are always the hardest. Sleeve was nothing compared to the Bypass. With the sleeve I barely felt any postop pain. Now with this one I feel so bloated and sleepy. Stqy in touch and bewtbof luck. Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Students who underwent ByPass Surgery : How many days/weeks did you take off of College ?
andreariv replied to Dramatic-Banana's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was one of the people that needed longer to heal after bypass surgery. I was absolutely miserable and the pain on my left side where I was cut shill hurts today. When I asked the doctor about it he said the famous line that everyone heals differently. Best of luck to you. -

Sleeve does lead to more revisions because revising bypass is more complex and requires skill level that most doctors dont have. However its a very exciting time for everyone and nothing to argue or get your guys panties in a Bunch about! Enjoy the excitement 🥳 -
Students who underwent ByPass Surgery : How many days/weeks did you take off of College ?
LaLaDee replied to Dramatic-Banana's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had a sleeve, but as others noted - everyone's recovery is different. When I asked my surgeon, he said he had one guy have the bypass and return to work the next day!!! Other people need longer. If you're in college and relatively fit from a pre-op diet, I would think 3 days would be reasonable, assuming there are no post op issues and you're willing to grit your teeth and take it slowly. -

Students who underwent ByPass Surgery : How many days/weeks did you take off of College ?

Hi everyone ! I am a newbie here and English is not my first language so please, bear with me 😛 I am a 24-year-old college student and I'm getting a ByPass on Sept 11th but my classes start on the 14th. I am fully aware I won't be able to go back to college literally 3 days after surgery, obviously ... but I was hoping that I could go back on the 21st. What are your thoughts/opinion ? -
Yeah, I'm asking about that awful little four letter word, Or rather initialism. So, I have never had any history of reflux. I can count on two fingers the number of times I've experienced heartburn in my life. This was part of the reason I decided on VSG for my revision. When I had my endoscopy prior to surgery, my doctor said there were some minor signs of inflammation that he attributed to a very minor hernia brought on by my band having slipped. The tissue sample analysis likewise supported that the inflammation and damage was very minor. My doctor didn't find it to be anything of concern and thus we went forward with VSG and fixing the minor hernia as part of the operation. The past six weeks have been going well, if not a tad on the tedious side dealing with my doctor's very slow diet phase transitions. Except in the past week, I've begun feeling what I can really only describe as a sensation in chest, right below the sternum. It only really occurs when I drink water/Crystal Light. It isn't a burning sensation or anything. It's more like an odd pressure that just lingers. I'd say that it's accompanied by an abundance of belching, making me suspect that it's just gas, but it doesn't really occur when I drink protein shakes. And well...post-op, burping and farting has seen a marked increase anyways. It's only in the past week that this has begun to crop up. And again, only when I drink water/Crystal Light. I've had no problems with when eating anything. So...folks who have had to deal with the nasty GERD goblin...what kind of symptoms do you experience? Am I possibly just being overly paranoid?

Anyone for August 2020
Rose57 replied to MotivatedMomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the DS which was recommended by my surgeon because of the amount of weight I wanted to lose (150 lbs) and because it is a surgery that is most successful for weight loss and the ability to keep it off. Granted it is more aggressive than the other surgeries but in the long run, I thought it was right for me. I would recommend researching the procedure, as well as the experience your surgeon has with this surgery. My doctor, Dr. Mitchell Roslin in Westchester, NY was extremely experienced and responsible for developing a revised version of DS. I had my surgery 6 weeks ago and feel great. I've lost 28 lbs. The malabsorption deficiency is greater and it means being on vitamins for the rest of your life, but I believe that is true for any bariatric surgery. Good luck with your decision! -

I don't have a gastric bypass but if you look at the bypass forums you will likely find some posts from those who are (or were) one day out to a week or two out from surgery. It isn't far off for you, hope it all goes well for you -

How long between insurance approval and surgery date?
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Bon Bon Jovi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For my VSG it was about a month. For my VSG to RNY revision 15 days but also took an appeal after denial. The whole process from first file to approval of appeal took 32 days. -
I had bypass, but the good and bad outcomes should be essentially the same. For me, it has been almost all good. As Sammi Kat said above, the health benefits have been immeasurable. I am off BP and cholesterol meds, no longer have knee pain or sleep apnea, I sleep better, have more energy, and generally feel better than I have in 20 years. Health and well-being is the reason I had the surgery, and on that front it was definitely worth it. I'm not having the food issues Sammi Kat describes and can eat essentially anything, but in much smaller quantities. I don't feel deprived at all. On the vanity side, it's nice to look better, fit into normal clothes and not have to worry about being fat when I'm looking for a seat on public transportation. It's also nice not to always sweat and feel hot. (I actually get cold easily now.) Cons: As you said, loose skin. It's not visible in clothes aside from the loose flesh on my neck, which makes me look older than I used to. I don't look great naked, but I'm 61 and my wonderful spouse is just happy that I'm now healthy and can be active again. One thing I never expected is that it's quite uncomfortable to sit on a hard surface for any length of time without the padding on my butt. Those minor drawbacks are nothing compared to the tremendous benefits of surgery. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

I feel your pain on overeating and being sick for 2 hrs and not being able to vomit. ITS HORRIBLE !! Glad you are doing well with your revision. -
I had my bypass alone on 6/29. I was fine, my nurses took terrific care of me, and I could manage alone at home after I was discharged.

❤My Revision Story❤
MamT replied to GreenTealael's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Well I’m definitely no expert on this but I’ve always had IBS among other stomach issues. I did a lot of food tracking and sensitivity tests to see what foods were my triggers. I found out that milk and whey are my biggest triggers so if I completely take those out of my diet it really helps. I had the sleeve in 2011 and lost 80 pounds but have only kept 25 pounds off. I NEVER planned on going to go through with another weight loss surgery unless I became totally miserable with myself or something. I workout daily and try to eat right but don’t eat like I should. I’m scared to death to have the revision and I’m TRULY NOT doing it for weight loss although I do hope that I lose weight. I believe that people should do EVERYTHING possible to lose the weight and change their lifestyle before going through any major surgery because in truth the surgery is just a tool. You have to have the right mindset to change your lifestyle. I have gone and still go to organized meetings to help me with my food addiction. I hope this helps....you can PM me if you’d like.
