You think I'm a cranky old geezer?
GeezerSue replied to GeezerSue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nancy, I think I've been kicked off more boards than Sandy. Well, I'm banned more often, that's for sure. I'm here...I'm not thrilled with my tummy tuck, but I was warned in advance that a revision was likely. So, it's a few months off. Lipo, they tell, to even things out. But they don't want to do it until everything "settles." thank you for asking. Neicy, It's never a good idea to encourage me. I'm outta control enough on my own...but thanks for letting me know that I'm not alone in my thinking on the topics at hand! Sue And I'm closer to 60 than 50...way closer. So, I think I'm gonna start saying that 60 is the new 43. ;-D -
I was met with some resistance after each time my port was replaced when I kept saying I still thought I had a leak. You do need to be your own advocate. You know what a working band feels like. If it's not working like that anymore, you need to find out why, and don't stop until you do. I was the biggest PITA for my doctor, but in the end, I was right about the leak, even though they never found it. I'd still be struggling with no restriction if I had given up, and trust me, there were times I felt like giving up. My insurance paid for all three surgeries. My band was faulty and they cover revisions due to faulty bands. BUT I am in Australia so it works differently here. P.S. Hi tmf!!

Goals are interesting things. They are pretty arbitrary to be honest. And once I met my initial goal, I've since revised it twice. But, with that being said, I'm a huge goal-oriented person, so they help me a great deal! I think the first 6 months or so, I was able to pretty easily shoot for 15 pounds/month, then it slowed a little. For an overall goal, I knew I wanted 50% of my initial weight lost.

BILIO PANCREATIC DIVERSION same as DS???
dsdesigna replied to New&Improved's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Both the “RNY” and DS are kinda of Bileopancreatic Diversions but they are vastly different in possible outcomes. You will get a bigger weight loss from the DS and better chance of no weight gain as time goes on. However you might consider that the Gastric Sleeve might be all you need if your issue is just portion control. And you can have that revised to the DS if your weight loss is not ideal. But you’ll be eating more normally but smaller portions. -

My daughter's wedding... and not being afraid of the camera!
PinkL8tyLori posted a blog entry in PinkL8tyLori's Blog
So... my daughter got married last month. It was a beautiful, intimate, very romantic and meaningful wedding. We had it at church in our smaller sanctuary - about 75 guests, we all sat at the reception tables for the wedding. My dad said a prayer. We had dancing and a dessert bar and a lovely cake baked by our friend and beautiful decorations (anybody want tips about a wedding on a budget... ask me!). Our brilliant photographer donated her time to us because she loves my daughter so much... let's just say blessings abounded... everywhere you looked and even when you weren't looking... a very joyous day. One of the things I didn't have to worry about was camera angles. You all know what I'm talking about. When you aren't at your ideal weight (or are very far from it as I'd been for so long) the camera is not your friend. You try to find ways to hide behind other people, try to figure out the right angle... or just plain hide all together - you are a bobbing head from behind a group of people. That is not the case for me anymore, and I'm so thankful for my sleeve. I loved every picture, kept looking at myself like... hey - i look pretty good! I wasn't holding my breath as I scrolled through the pictures, afraid of what may be next. Now i'm not saying every picture is a keeper... they never are, but I wasn't embarrassed or ready to put any through the shredder... that's a first If you aren't where you want to be for 2013 and are ready to make a change for the better and get back on track to a healthier you... you can email me at lori@obesitycontrolcenter.com or call 1-866-376-7849 ext. 81. Whether its a first time weight loss surgery or a rescue/revision surgery - we can help! Make 2013 the year when you don't hide anymore!- 3 comments

Had lapband 2009 bmi 35,having hard time losing the weight going for sleeve does anyone have ghi insurance will they approval of my revision
-
I had my revision surgery from band to sleeve on Nov 27th 2013 and my doc has had me on a lot of medication since surgery. However today I have noticed when I go pee it hurts and I feel like I have to urinate all the time but when I go it's very little and it burns and hurts like crazy. I'm calling the doctor first thing in the morning to see if I can be seen. Do you think it might be a bladder infection from all the medication and maybe not getting in enough water?

@@JazzyJeff chose the sleeve because I feel like it would fit me better as far as the amount of weight I am trying to lose and also keep off. With the sleeve they cut about 80-85% of your stomach out and create a new pouch. And I also chose the sleeve because my surgeon told me that with the lap band it often slides, or there are ways to get around it to gain the weight back. Which I assume can also be done with the sleeve. And also I have friends who have had the lap band and had it removed after loosing a lot of weight and they gained it back. But on a positive note the lap band is reversible so you are able to take it out or get it revised when ever you want. That's cool you don't have to do a 6 month supervised diet. I didn't either. I just needed to do the psych evaluation. .nutrition eval and labs.

What type of surgery did you have? I got sleeved 14 years ago, and was revised to a bypass 56 days ago. You're best bet immediately after surgery is chewable vitamins. They have everything chewable now (no gummies for me, because they don't get as well absorbed with a bypass). I take Bariatric Fusion multivitamin 3 times a day because the bypass is a malabsorptive surgery. I take a calcium chew once a day, and an Iron once a day. The Iron I take isn't chewable, but I'm 3 months out now so, I'm feel ok when I take it. It really all depends on your surgery and how far out you are from it.

Multivitamins
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to stephnicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did chewable with the sleeve for the first 6 weeks, then switched to the regular pill. With the revision from sleeve to bypass, I started off with liquid for the first 2 weeks, then was able to jump in and take the regular pill. Ironically, I had a harder time with the sleeve than the bypass. Who knew? -
New study shows that those who lose weight faster, actually lose MORE...
marfar7 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ever since I was a kid I've always heard that the faster you lose weight, the unhealthier it is and the faster you'll gain it back, not to mention you will only lose so much weight. While in the car yesterday, I was listening to KLove radio (a Christian radio station) and they had some weightloss stats from Wake Forest University nutrition program: 1. The fallacy that the faster you lose weight the easier it is to gain it back is untrue. Actually, the faster you lose, the more % of your excess body fat you'll lose. And you will no more gain it back than if you lose it slower. So that debunks the prior school of thought. 2. Eating after 7 pm will slow down your metabolism. I knew this one was false and argued it on many occasion. How does your body know what time it is? Your body works on a 24 hr clock, not just waking hours. 3. And my favorite (can't believe people actually think this): That muscle will turn into fat. Muscle is muscle, fat is fat. It's like trying to turn a bear into a tiger. one has nothing to do with the other. So us wls losers actually have a better chance of losing MORE weight in the long run than people who lose slower. Can we all know that the rate of loss has nothing to do with saggy skin. Thats 85% heredity and 15% luck (oh, and I think age plays a part too, the younger the better). It has nothing to do with exercising, expensive creams, or the rate of loss. While I'm losing pretty slowly (only 17 lbs in 7 weeks), I started at 174 (band to sleeve revision) so I knew it would come off a little slower. So lose away and don't worry that you're losing too fast. Eventually your body will slow down the closer you come to goal anyway! -
Omg yes! I hated posting there, I had so many complications and was so sick. And when I would post to vent or for support they treated me like I was a freaking moron who couldn't figure out how to utilize the band and all my complications were no big deal. I haven't been on there in a year now because of it. I joined this one when I started my journey to revision. 2months post op and feel 100x's better!

Acid reflux: when did it start for you? How bad is it?
OldMomOf3 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was banded 2012 and immediately stopped having reflux. I was revised to sleeve 4 days ago and have had worse acid reflux than I have ever had in my entire life! Is this normal? Common? Will this go away? The prescription Pepcid isn't doing a thing to help it. What do you do about your reflux? I'm on full liquid diet for 2 weeks and I can't imagine what food will be like if liquids (water, juice, broth) is this bad. -
I finally feel good. Since I was a revision from a vbg to vsg, it took them 4 hours to do my surgery on Wednesday. I had a lot of scar tissue plus a conversion from a vbg to vsg is not always easy and usually they end up doing a by pass, so i feel very fortunate. They finally did the UGI this morning and no leaks and out went that nasty NG tube. Yay. Had my first meal and no issues there either. I will be staying here till Sunday and I'm ok with that. Wondering how the others are doing.

Week 2 post Vsg revision surgery
krazzierebel posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello Everyone!! Today makes two weeks since I had my Revision surgery from lap band to VSG! When I started my weight loss surgery I weighed 250 lbs. The day of my revision I weighed 208.6 lbs. Today two weeks after surgery I weigh 197 lbs!! That means I lost 2lbs this week... I went on a weekend cruise and it was very relaxing. I couldn't do much or go on any Water slides in Atlantis but it was still great to relax and heal. I was advanced to a soft diet last week so I'm glad I didn't actually gain weight and I'm ok with just a 2lb loss. Anyway, hope everyone has a great week! Stay safe & be healthy Ohhhh yea I have a question- does anyone get shoulder pain when they eat? I get it almost every time I eat and it's quite uncomfortable. Cris -
Need Advice! High BMI - Band to Sleeve revision
cinward2001 replied to Irish's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'll be having revision surgery with Dr. Rumbaut on Tuesday. He did my original LapBand surgery so I feel very comfortable with him. He is most definitely NOT the cheapest, but I'm not basing such an important decision on the lowest price. When I spoke to Dr. R (3 times now before deciding to do this...how many other surgeons talk to you personally?), he asked me if I had originally been successful with the band. Since I had, he thinks the sleeve will work well for me. If I hadn't, then he'd recommend RNY. It also depends on the type of overeater you are. For example, if you have trouble with sweets, then RNY might be best. But if volume is your problem, then the sleeve might be enough. I can't say for sure that Dr. R would do your revision all at once. A lot depends on your individual situation. The same with the RNY...if his professional opinion, based upon seeing thousands of patients, is that RNY is best for you, perhaps you should consider it. The main thing is to be open and honest about your situation, listen to what he has to say, then go from there... Good luck! -
Need Advice! High BMI - Band to Sleeve revision
AmandaRaeLeo replied to Irish's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I did not have a revision but I did go to Dr. Aceves. He's wonderful. Also, I am also guessing that any surgeon that will do it in one fell swoop, be it Mx or the States, will stop the surgery if they open you up and find its too risky to proceed. -
Laurie I came across quite a few posts saying they got the full coverage of their band/sleeve revisions in the states. I really would not give up that easily. Just be a persistent and stay your ground. I am not sure where I had seen all the posts about covered revisions but if you do a Google search or a search on bariatricpal.com gastricsleeve.com I am sure you will find enough materiel to make your case.

Anyone with lower BMI 27.5.
tankheadmommy replied to Me and me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really depends upon your insurance company. If your doctor is able to convey how the band needs to be removed and your need for a tool to maintain a loss, you just may be able to get the sleeve. It's going to be really important for you to consult with your doctor and see if he/she is on board with a sleeve. You may have to jump through a few hoops, but it will be worth it if you are able to get the sleeve. By the way, I have read of people getting a revision with a low BMI if the lapband has to be removed for medical reasons. -
Feel Like I'm Going To Lose It Trying To Decide
Squeaky123 replied to Joy1961's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I currently had the lap band and am getting a revision to the sleeve on October 2. I have had the lap band and if I had to do it all over again, I would not have it. It is very hard to comply with the rules of the band. You have to cut up your food in the smallest pieces you can imagine. I could not eat many foods. I could not eat dense foods like chicken. I could not eat one bite of chicken for lunch; yet I could eat a bunch of crackers. I had vomitting issues, pain like you would not believe. I never felt full, only stuck or unstuck. I would not recommend the band. -
