  1. Today is the first day of my pre-op diet: cottage cheese, yogurt, chicken, sole, fresh vegies. It's just 3 days, so it shouldn't be a problem. My surgery is Thursday! :biggrin2: I plan to attack each phase after surgery as an individual entity/challenge: 4 days of clear liquids, etc.

Just a thought, could you take Kosher meat to work with you? As for eggnog, take a protein shake in a thermos and when the egg nog comes out bring out the shake. As I understand it, carbs turn to sugar and sugar starts the engine, protein is the long burning fuel. Hard protein stays in the pouch longer thus the feeling of full. Until you can get professional help, try outsmarting yourself. For instance, I found my weak spot is the 3:00 afternoon break so at noon I have a protein shake along with 4 oz of shrimp. At the 3:00 break,I have tea with yogurt which keeps me until dinnertime. I haven't controlled the issues I have with chewing or grazing when alone, but I am the most successful when I try to outsmart myself. Take care

    Surgery on the 8th

Mine is 3 shakes and 6 servings of specific items like broth, unsweetened applesauce, low carb yogurt, carrots, plain oatmeal. I have been pretty full. What is killing is smelling what my hubby and girls are eating. It's not even that it's unhealthy... But a real meal with meat, veggies, and all put together - like taco soup. I know it's going to be worth it in the long run. Good luck to you too! It's a scary journey and will need others who can understand. I have 2 classmates from HS and a band mom that I talk with a lot on Facebook about this. They are in different stages, year out, 6 months and 3 months.

Day 2 liquid diet and a Thank you

Well I can sip on water but the chewing gum I can’t do. My surgeon’s preop is very strict and he only allows yogurt and water for the three days before surgery. I’ve pretty much made it through Day 1, I have just 2 more days of this left. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

    Protein Intake?! Help

You have to get the best bang for the buck. get some type of smoothie maker or blender. Shaker bottle are great. Nutra bullet type products are helpful as well. Oster makes one for about $25. Look for a Protein powder or Liquid Protein with a good amount of protein. I use a whey powder from CVS that is 26 gm per scoop. I work out in the mornings. My Breakfast is a Protein shake. I mix 1 scoop of Protein Powder with anywhere from ¼ - ½ cup of plain, greek yogurt. (I prefer FAGE0%) for an additional 6 -12 gm of protein with a bit of almond milk. I've now gotten in nearly half my protein with my first meal of the day. If I only eat lunch and dinner with no Snacks I can easily get in the rest of protein by making sure each meal has at least 15gms of protein. When I was newly sleeved I also added lots of ice and at least a ¼cup of Water to my shakes to make sure I was getting in my water and to keep my shakes from being too thick on my healing tummy.
  6. Not hard but wont be fun I am doing this for my x wife as we speak she is getting it done end of May Since i have a nurta girl who handles me here is her plan Gallons of Broth, she has a band on he wrist and has to move 5 miles a day, Lucky she hits that easy at work, She eats small portion and low calorie food 6 times a day. For example today she will be eating chunked chicken, veggies two shakes and grapes. But she can sip and drink broth all day. She hates it and is miserable but she realizes the rewards seeing me. Going to prep her food today for the next three days here is it for dinner and lunch - Breakfast for her is a yogurt and shake. I will make two of each and she can mix and match them up - Goal is to keep her under 900 calories a day. Not easy because she cheats at work. and If tired blows the day with the Starbucks drive thru suicide coffee creations. 1. 7 oz salmon cauliflower rice and grapes 2. 7 oz skirt steak Avocado and asparagus and fruit cup 3. Chicken sausage one link, Brown fried rice with egg and tons of veggies I am professional trained in the kitchen - Use a App to track your calories and be careful with the sauces, seasonings and oils. You can have a healthy piece of fish and ruin the healthy side with a glaze or sauce!
  7. I started preparing for the days after surgery by cleaning house and finding products that are good tasting and on the diet plan. I found a Pacific Turkey Bone Broth with rosemary, thyme and sage. It comes in a small paper container with a twist off cap. 35 calories 9g protein 0 sugars 0 carbs. This does taste good and has saved me when I wanted something that reminds me of real food flavor. Also a Campbell's creamy chicken soup on the go. It has bits of chicken but I strain them out and eat half like a meal. Calories 65, sugar 0.5g, protein 3g and carbs 4g. This is also good. Each day I drink 2 unjury or Jay Robb whey chocolate protein shakes with skim milk and ice - makes it like slushy. I meet my 60g plus of protein. SF pudding & light yoplait yogurt (no fruit pieces) are my other snacks. It took a while but I found options and this has helped me so much.
  8. Thank you for the advice!! What kind of real butter do you use? Country crock? I am good about drinking water and staying away from pop. So far I have been eating Greek yogurt for breakfast, chicken, brusselsprouts and red potatoes for lunch and chicken and veggies for dinner. I am doing ok but last night I wanted to cave so badly. I didn't, but I almost did!! I'm just trying to get through two weeks with out cheating because I feel like if I cheat early on I will have less success.
  9. oh my this is exactly what i needed to see, i got a morning dose of reality on this one. I am too a lazy eater. I decided to as of yesturday that i was tired of logging food everyday and working out 4-5xs a week and said i was going to give my body and mind a break from loosing weight for 2 weeks. Is this a good choice probably not and is it lazy hell to the yes. But i feel like sometimes i get so wrapped that i all i do is plan my meals and stress about the weight. I grab easy foods all the time . Morning yogurt or coffee and protein, lunch i get grilled chicken or a taco and just eat the inside and dinner well those meals i do have to cook. I know i wanted this surgery and am forever grateful and love seeing that scale go down. So even with all that said I am doing the 2 weeks break will I eat junk no but i will not log what i eat or plan, my sleeve will let me know i have had enough and i will still make the better choice in foods so wish this lazy eater luck the next 2 weeks .

    Grazer

I'm also a grazer. I eat yogurt all the time....but the chez-its are the worst. I like almonds too. I have to say though...I've lost 91 pounds. My surgery was April 1st.....so I must not be doing too bad. I think I'll hit 100 by six months *surely*. I'm also not a dumper...and I've been testing that. Morbid curiosity, I guess. I've had cookies and m&ms. Yes, I realize I'm triggering bad behavior. I've only eaten 3 m&ms at a time. Moderation.
  13. I was not happy a while back because my weight lose stopped only after 2.5 weeks (after surgery). So I stopped weighing myself so much. Had trouble with amounts I was eating (ate to much), but now I think I'm getting the hang of how to do this! At least at this point! I have been on regular food about a week and here is how I see how to work with the band. I have not counted calories but try to eat good food, of course protein first, then veggies, sometimes a carb, even a small desert . 3 meals a day and maybe a bit of yogurt (greek). THATS IT! Weighted in this morning (after about 2 weeks) 2lb loss. and feeling good! One question though; At dinner time I can not feel satisfied, I was thinking about drinking more water/crystal light. Doc told me no liquid .5 hour before and 1 hour after a meal and it's after the meal I think I need to drink more to feel satisfied? What to do? TIA

    ~April Sleevers~

Sleeved 4/12/12, just got home from hospital. Before surgery I would only get heartburn like twice a year but water & broth are givin me heartburn. Tomorrow I can go to my protein shakes & yogurt, maybe that won't give me heartburn.
  15. The unflavored protein powder has been a life-saver for me. The flavored powders I used before surgery just sat like a rock after surgery. I've mixed the unflavored powder in broth, soup, yogurt, flavored water, virtually anything fairly thin. I add sugar-free Torani, DaVinci or Walden Farms syrups to make my own flavored shakes.

I eat with a spoon and thin I drink in a cup. It Hold me for a good 3 hours.
  17. I am 5 days post op and I still weigh more than the day of surgery. I have had no trouble getting my fluids or protein in. I have had minimal pain and feel pretty good. I can not tell if I am full. I've had a full carton of yogurt that ended with a runny nose but I did not feel full. Help !!

    August 13th

Well, here's the scoop on yesterday's second fill results. Yesterday was an all liquid day so it was a wash (awash - get it?) as far as testing restriction. Today was a mush day up until dinnertime. Breakfast and lunch were yogurt and cottage cheese - each a measured quarter cup. dinner was going to be scrambled eggs, but the chef made a slice of ham steak also. I gave it a try, with chewing a priority. I only needed about a quarter cup of scrambled egg and four small bites of ham before hearing that small voice of the lapband saying enough...any more and you'll be overdoing it. I'm both surprised and pleased at the feedback that I'm getting from the band. It does speak - but its up to me to listen and obey. There used to be a series, I think on Masterpiece Theater, called "Rumpole of the Bailey", about an English lawyer who called his wife "She who must be obeyed". That is going to be adjusted slightly and my lapband will henceforth be known as: " It Which Must Be Obeyed!"

    Bariatric friendly desserts?

Dannon Light and fit greek yogurt. It comes in a lot of yummy flavors, and fixes that sweet need. It's 12g of protein, and only 7g of sugar. If you can find the Dannon Light and Fit blends, they come in amazing flavors. Key Lime, vanilla coconut, banana cream. They seriously taste like dessert. I can find them at my local super walmart.
  21. I did all of that in a day, and it all cost me $75. First, I cooked a 16 qt pot of fresh chicken Soup (from scratch - chicken + root veggies). I also added whole zucchini to the pot. Then, I also cooked huge batch of minced onions and let it simmer with a bit of oil until they were golden. I drained the onions of the oil and pureed it. I used it to flavor all of the purees. I used clear broth to thin out the dryer foods as I pureed them. I added almond milk and greek yogurt to everything so that I had the added Protein to compensate for the added liquids in the mix. Measure EVERYTHING before you put it into the blender. This way, you can break it down to portion-size calculations of its nutritional content. Here's two ‘recipes’ from my list: 31 2 oz. servings Mashed potato 4 large Idaho potatoes = 4 lbs.(64 oz) 1 cup Almond Milk 4 oz. Greek Yogurt, 0% 1 cup sauteed onions 14 4 oz. Protein Potato Broth 1 cup almond milk 2 cups mashed potato mix (see above)
  22. The pizza, pumpkin carmel bake and pumpkin cheesecake are. The yogurt isnt, and I didn't put the protein ice cream because we basically took a shake and put it in an ice cream maker so doh! Pumpkin cheesecake: http://sleevers.wordpress.com/2013/11/09/pumpkin-cheesecake-vanilla-protein-mousse/ Caramel bake: http://sleevers.wordpress.com/2013/10/02/pumpkin-caramel-bake-high-protein-low-carb-gluten-free/ Flatout pizza: http://sleevers.wordpress.com/2013/11/16/low-carb-flatout-pizza/

    Questions

Greek yogurt was on my doctors list of full liquids.
  24. I too have a 40f. I didn't suffer with nausea post-op and was getting in 20 oz of fluids on day 2. By day 5 I was up to 64 oz of water and herbal tea. I can drink 16 oz of warm tea in just a few minutes. Everything goes down easily. I get full quickly on dense foods like yogurt. Tomorrow is my two week mark and I'm down 13 pounds. I love my 40f!

Still weigh more than surgery day!

Yeah I think in the beginning I had greek yogurt and then cut it out too. I do keep a little to mix with my tuna though instead of mayo. This is just my experience but I have tried lower carbs and tried upping carbs trying to break a stall and I will say that lowering the carbs did work. Not sure if it's coincidence or it really does work. I am just starting my 8th week So it really is trial and error and learning from those that are farther out.
